The apology

Chapter 33 Nathalie’s POV The hospital room was quiet. I sat on the bed, staring at the small flowers beside the window. So much had happened in just a few days. William’s shocking secret. Ivanka’s fake pregnancy. The fear of losing my babies. I placed my hand gently over my stomach. Thankfully, they were safe. That was all that mattered. A knock suddenly came from the door. I looked up. My heart sank when I saw Ivanka standing there. But she wasn’t alone. Zachary was behind her. “Nathalie,” Ivanka said softly. Her voice sounded different. Almost sincere. “I came to apologize.” I remained silent. Zachary looked at me. “Nathalie, please listen to her.” I looked back at Ivanka. She lowered her head. “I know I hurt you. I know I made mistakes.” Her words sounded perfect. Almost too perfect. But then, for a brief second… She looked up. And I saw it. The smile. The small smirk on her lips. The expression that told me everything. She wasn’t sorry. Not really. She was only pretending because Zachary was standing there. My heart tightened, but I didn’t show it. I didn’t want to give her the satisfaction of seeing me break. “I’m sorry for everything,” Ivanka continued. Zachary looked relieved. He believed her. Of course he did. Because he didn’t see what I saw. He didn’t see the real Ivanka behind the mask. I forced a small smile. “It’s okay, Ivanka.” Her eyes flashed with surprise for a moment. Maybe she expected anger. Maybe she wanted me to lose control. But I wouldn’t. “I understand that everyone makes mistakes,” I continued softly. Zachary looked at me with a complicated expression. He didn’t know that my forgiveness was not because I believed her. It was because I refused to let hatred change who I was. Ivanka smiled again. But this time, I noticed. She thought she had won. She thought her performance had fooled everyone. But she forgot one thing. I had seen the truth. And one day… Everyone else would too.
