Chapter 40 Sharlene’s POV I had spent days telling myself that Greyson was only being persistent. That eventually, he would become tired and walk away. But he didn’t. Every day, he found another reason to make me smile. He never forced me. He never demanded an answer. He simply stayed. And slowly, without realizing it, I began waiting for him. Waiting for his messages. Waiting for his calls. Waiting to hear him tease me. One evening, Greyson took me to a quiet garden overlooking the city. There were no cameras. No reporters. No family members. Just us. He handed me a small box. My heart raced. “Greyson…” “Before you panic, it’s not an engagement ring.” I laughed. “You’re ridiculous.” “I know.” He opened the box. Inside was a simple silver bracelet. “I saw it and thought of you.” I touched it gently. “Why?” “Because it’s simple, but beautiful.” I looked at him. “Greyson…” He became serious. “I know your life isn’t easy. I know your father has plans for you. And I know you’re afraid.” He took a breath. “But I don’t want to be another person who makes decisions for you.” His eyes met mine. “So I’m asking one last time.” My heart pounded. “Will you give us a chance?” I looked away. For weeks, I had been fighting my feelings. But I was tired of running. I smiled through the tears gathering in my eyes. “Yes.” Greyson froze. “Yes?” I laughed. “Yes, Greyson.” His face immediately lit up. He pulled me into his arms, and I laughed against his chest. “I promise I’ll make you happy,” he whispered. I closed my eyes. For the first time, I allowed myself to believe in us.
