Something about her

Chapter 37 Sharlene’s POV I hadn’t planned on meeting Greyson that day. Honestly, I hadn’t planned on meeting anyone. After spending years abroad, I had returned to the city with enough problems waiting for me. My father’s latest message was still on my phone. We need to discuss your engagement. I sighed. Marriage. That was the last thing I wanted. I wasn’t ready to marry a man simply because our fathers thought their businesses would benefit from it. I slipped my phone into my handbag and walked toward the hospital entrance. That was when someone nearly bumped into me. “I’m sorry.” I looked up. Greyson. Again. “You,” I said. He smiled. “Me.” “Do you always appear wherever I go?” “Maybe you’re the one following me.” I laughed. “Very funny.” He smiled. “I was actually coming to see Zachary.” “I came to see Nathalie.” There was a short silence. “She’s important to you,” he said. “She’s my best friend.” “I can tell.” We started walking toward the entrance together. For some reason, talking to him felt easy. He didn’t ask about my family. He didn’t ask why I had returned. He didn’t ask about my father’s plans. He simply talked. And I liked that. “You’re different from what I expected,” I admitted. Greyson looked amused. “What did you expect?” “Someone arrogant.” He laughed. “Because I’m Zachary’s friend?” “Exactly.” “I’m disappointed.” I smiled. “Why?” “I was hoping you’d think I was mysterious.” “You’re not.” He placed a hand over his chest dramatically. “That hurts.” I laughed again. And for a moment, I forgot about my problems. Then my phone rang. My father’s name appeared on the screen. My smile disappeared. Greyson noticed. “Everything okay?” I hesitated. “No.” He didn’t push me. He simply said, “If you ever want to talk, I’m here.” I looked at him. Those simple words touched something inside me. Maybe because nobody had said them without expecting something in return. “Thank you.” We continued walking. Neither of us knew where this friendship would lead. But when we reached Nathalie’s room, Greyson opened the door for me. I smiled. “Thank you.” He smiled back. And suddenly, I realized something terrifying. I was beginning to look forward to seeing him.
