Dear Stary,
Thank you for considering my work, but after reviewing your contract, I’ve decided not to participate. There are a number of significant issues that I cannot overlook.
The rights clause, which locks in the work for the full term of copyright, is a major concern. The limited ability to exit the contract, especially with the requirement to repay all earnings over a three-year period, is unacceptable—particularly if double repayment is involved for Premium Content.
The required writing schedule, with daily posts and a minimum of 50,000 words per month, is unmanageable for me. The pressure of having another writer take over if I fall behind adds to the difficulty.
I also find the contract’s lack of clear payment schedules and financial transparency troubling. Without a clear understanding of when or how much I’ll be paid, I can’t trust that the compensation will be fair.
The first refusal clause on future works, without a defined timeline or flexibility, could create unnecessary delays and uncertainty.
Lastly, the confidentiality clauses and penalties for breach are far too restrictive. While the financial penalties may not be as severe as some other platforms, the overall risk to my creative control is too great.
For these reasons, I must decline.
Sincerely,
Lexi
