"The Letter"
Lila Grant stared at the envelope on her small wooden desk.
Her name was printed in bold, official ink:
“FULL SCHOLARSHIP APPROVED – KINGSTON ELITE UNIVERSITY.”
For a moment, she didn’t move. She didn’t even breathe properly.
This kind of opportunity didn’t come to girls like her.
Girls who counted every coin before spending.
Girls who worked late nights just to survive.
Girls from forgotten streets.
“No… this can’t be real,” she whispered.
From the kitchen, her mother’s voice came softly.
“Lila? What is it, my love?”
Lila slowly stood up and walked over, her hands shaking as she handed her the letter.
Her mother read it once… then again.
Then she covered her mouth.
“Lila…” her voice broke. “You got it…”
Tears filled her eyes, but Lila didn’t smile yet.
Because something about it felt too perfect. Too clean. Too easy.
And in her world, nothing was ever free.
Her eyes dropped to the bottom of the page.
A single line made her freeze.

Meanwhile…
High above the city, in a glass tower that touched the clouds, Ethan Blackwood sat in silence.
The skyline reflected in his dark eyes, unreadable and cold.
On his desk lay a file.
LILA GRANT.
His assistant stood carefully beside him.
“She accepted the scholarship, sir.”
A long pause followed.
Then Ethan leaned back slightly in his chair.
“She finally stepped into my world,” he said quietly.
His fingers tapped once on the desk.
“Let her come.”
A faint, dangerous calm settled in his voice.
“This time… she won’t escape so easily.”
Back in her small room, Lila closed the suitcase she had started packing.
She didn’t know why…
But suddenly, the scholarship didn’t feel like freedom anymore.
It felt like a door closing behind her.
And somewhere far away, someone had just locked it.
