Chapter Eight: A Promising First Date

1474 Words
That evening at 6 pm sharp, Cole rang her doorbell. "Oh my God; you look absolutely stunning," Cole said as he gave her a double take. Hannah had on a simple but elegant bright blue dress, with a low v-neck, that accentuated her girls. The blue hue in the dress brought out the blue in her eyes and shined against her long, flowing blonde hair that she slightly curled. "Why thank you, Mr. Hanson," she joked! "You are ever so kind," she gave him her best southern Belle accent. Cole walked up to her, handed her a bottle of wine and flowers, and kissed her softly on the lips. "You look good enough to eat, Babe," he whispered in her ear, causing Hannah to turn three shades of red. Cole and Hannah both made their way into the kitchen, as Hannah was just finishing last-minute dinner prep. "Can I help you with anything," Cole asked? "Why don't you just pour us some wine and leave the rest to me. Dinner is ready," Hannah assured him. The two of them sat down for a nice romantic candlelit dinner. Cole told her several times how good of a cook she was. Hannah was definitely enjoying the compliments. She knew the way to a man's heart was through his stomach, and she had tried her best to make the perfect meal for him. "So tell me, what is your dating situation like," Hannah bluntly asked him? "How is it that no woman has scoffed you up? You're not married, right," she chuckled as she reached for his hand? "Well, I would say that there has been no one serious in my life for a long time. I do date occasionally, but most of them don't go past the first date, as I don't see anything long-term happening. And no, I've never found the right woman to marry. But then, of course, I met you, which made me excited for the possibilities," he answered her honestly! Hannah blushed at the sentiment. "Why, are you ready to commit to me already," he half-heartedly joked? Hannah laughed off his comment. Cole would have liked nothing more for them to be exclusive, but since they just met this week, he knew that that probably wasn't realistic. "What about you," he asked curiously of her? "Well, I have been unlucky in love. Most men see me and want me to be a timid trophy wife. Well, unfortunately for them, that isn't me," Hannah added proudly! "My last serious relationship was about 6 months ago. The ass tried to parade me around town on his arm like our relationship was perfect, which it most certainly wasn't! He was part of the reason that I left Texas. It seemed that I was only finding men like him there." Cole smiled at the thought of Hannah having been unlucky in love. Although selfish, it was good for him that she had ben or their paths may not have crossed. "I do have a couple of men pursuing me right now, though...so we'll see where those go," she played with him! "Well now, Miss Hanson, a couple of pursuers already, and you're still quite new to the area. Anyone in particular that I should be concerned about," he inquired? "Why, Mr. Hanson, a southern lady like myself, never kisses and tells," she joked again in her best southern belle accent. "All right then, i'll give you that. But when I win your heart over, the only kissing that those beautiful lips of yours better be doing is with me," he said seductively! "That's a deal that I'm prepared to make," Hannah leaned in towards him and gave him a slight kiss on the lips! "So tell me about your work," Cole asked? "It occurred to me that I don't know anything about that part of your life." "When I left Texas, I was working at a private investigation agency. I loved it! It was very exciting. I learned a lot of useful skills that I utilize on a daily basis," she told him. "Wow, that is badass! Did you ever think of opening your own agency around here," asked Cole? "I don't believe there are any...or anyone good in that business, I should say! You'd probably be a huge success!" "Hmmmmmm. Honestly, I'm not sure. As much as I love that kind of work, it does make me a little cynical. I eventually want to be married and have a family. I don't know if that type of job coincides with the life that I want to have for myself. But you never know! Right now, I saved up enough money to live off from for quite a while, I just want to get used to the area, and then I will start thinking about a career," Hannah answered honestly. "Where do you see herself long-term," Hannah reached in and grabbed his hand tighter? "Well, my shop is doing really well. One day, I would like to have a wife and a family of my own. Maybe I'll be lucky enough to have a daughter or a son who wants to take over the family business. Family is really important to me! My parents and my younger brother live right in Tuscon, and we usually have a family dinner together one night a week. "That is wonderful that you're so close to your family. I'm an only child so I only have my parents. We're pretty close also, I normally chat with them three or four times a week. Right now, they are off jet-setting around Europe, taking in all the sights. My Parents retired this past year, so they're making up for all the times that they weren't able to travel," Hannah explained to Cole as she continued rubbing his hand. Hannah and Cole continued to lock eyes. Even though the conversation had stopped, it was almost as if they were reading each other's minds. It was obvious that they both desired each other, both physically and emotionally. Hannah broke the stare first. "I better go clean up dinner. Otherwise, I'm going to have to force myself not to take you upstairs in this very moment," she stated seductively! "Dishes it is! That is one way to keep the s****l tension off our minds. I'll help," he proclaimed as he grabbed some of the dishes from the table. After everything was cleaned up from dinner, Hannah decided to take Cole up to the watchtower area upstairs. She told him of the magnificent views. Hannah walked ahead of him, holding his hand, as she guided him up the narrow stairs. When they arrived at the top, Cole was grinning from ear-to-ear. "I told you it was breathtaking," she stated to him as she looked around towards the mountains! "Actually, I got a great view as I was heading up the stairs already," he joked with Hannah! Cole then wrapped his arms around her from behind and looked out at the mountains with her. "You are right, though. The views are magnificent up here! Certainly not more magnificent than your own beauty, though!" Hannah reached her head around, and Cole gently kissed her forehead. He then began to look behind him. He was a little shocked when he noticed the built-in telescope. "You dirty little birdy," he said to her! It's no wonder you like this place! You're a voyeur," he chuckled! "I am not," she proclaimed as she wrinkled up her nose at him. "The telescope is for the mountains, you jerk," she teased him! The time was getting late, and Hannah knew that she had an appointment coming up in about 20 minutes or so. She supposed she had to figure out a way to ask Cole to leave, even though that was the last thing that she wanted to do that night. "Cole, I really want to thank you for coming for dinner, but unfortunately, I do have someone coming shortly to come check out the smoke detectors in the house. You remember that they all went off the other night when we were chatting," she reminded him. "I completely understand. That did happen at the most inopportune time! You definitely should get that fixed so it doesn't interrupt our "special phone time" again," he joked and used the cutest air quotes? Appreciating his understanding of the situation, Hannah walked him down towards the door. "Thank you so much for dinner! It really was fantastic! I hope to do this again soon," he added. "I'll message you tomorrow!" Hannah didn't respond to him. Instead, she just gently laid a kiss on his lips, keeping him wanting more! She winked at him and then watched him drive away in his old pickup truck. At that moment, she wished that she was in there with him!
