Chapter 1- The Return. Jonathan Anderson. "Sir, would you like a drink?" I heard the hostess of my private jet, ask. "No, thank you." I declined without looking away from my phone's screen. I heard her clicking footsteps walking away from me. I then felt someone's shadow hovering over me. I looked up to find my friend, staring at me, or rather looking at the latest i phone in my hand with a knowing look on his face and two wine glasses in his hand. "Jared." I acknowledged him as he sat beside me, handing me a glass of wine. I took from him while tasting it and continued to marvel at my phone. "So..." He started. I turned my head to see him still staring at the photo on my phone screen, "She's the one?" He asked, gaze unmoving. Marvelling at the feeling of annoyance I felt at his gaze, I switched the screen off, throwing the phone on the empty seat on his left. Noticing my glare at him, he quickly lifted his hands up in a surrendering motion, saying, "I'm sorry boss! I didn't mean-" "Keep it to yourself!" I yelled at him. "Okay! Okay!" He laughed. I swear, if he wasn't my friend. I sighed and leant back in my seat waiting for the jet to land soon in New York, the place where my heart resides. "You didn't reply me, Jonathan." I was broken out of my thoughts with Jared's voice. "Yes." I replied, a small smile gracing my lips at the anticipation. "You are a very secretive person. Aren't you, Jon? We've all been so curious in our ma..association to know who the boss's girl is. But you never revealed it. None of us even knows her name. You intend to keep her to yourself, don't you?" He chuckled seeming to make a joke out of it but his laugh came to an end when I said, "Yes." Seeing the seriousness in my voice, he went quite and remained during the rest of the journey. I looked at the time according to New York's to see, there was an hour left for the jet to land and also for today's day to end and a new day to begin. A very important day for me both for the reasons that I'll meet her after four years and make her mine forever as well as because tomorrow, by an hour from now, is my sweetheart's birthday. After an hour, exactly at midnight, the jet landed and I stepped out of the jet, standing near the staircase that'd lead us down, my friend walking beside me. "I am back!" I announced with joy. My friend smiling too. We were still maneuvering the darkness around us when I said "Samantha." "Huh?!" Was his reaction. "Her name is Samantha Grey, my sweetheart." I said and went down the jet stairs, towards the black limo awaiting us. Samantha Grey. The alarm went off in my room waking me up from my deep sleep. "Ugh!" I screamed. For the love of God! It's Sunday! Who wakes up this early?! Who actually first kept the alarm in my room? Am gonna kill that person! I covered the blanket over my head to avoid the noisy alarm but then the door burst open, and then began the whispering. "Happy Birthday to you! Happy Birthday dear Samantha!" I heard them sing aloud. I instantly got up from my bed, the sleep escaping from me in a whiplash. Oh my God! It's my birthday! Everyone in my family stood near my bed and a small cake of my favourite black current flavour was held in my brother's hands. All sleep gone I stood up immediately as they handed me a knife and lighted the candle. "Make a wish, Sammy!" My big brother Ricky shouted making the rest of us wince. "Okay!" I giggled excitingly. I closed my eyes wishing, 'I got everything I need right here with me God. But there's one peice of my heart still missing, my best friend, Jonathan. He's all I need to complete my happiness.' I then blew the candle, and cut the cake with a constant smile on my face. I fed my mother, my father and lastly my brother smudging the cake all over his face. They all fed me too, each of them wishing me individually. We all sat on my bed when my brother started, "So? What did you wish for?" He asked. Yeah. Like I'll tell him. "It's a secret Ricky." I rolled my eyes at him. "But I know already Sammy. So do Mom and Dad. Right Mom? Dad?" I turned to look at both them with curious eyes. "Yes." Both Mom and Dad said in unison. "Samantha?" My Dad called for my attention. "Yes, Dad?" "We are arranging a birthday party for you today." He said somewhat nervous. "Dad, you know I-" I was cut off by Mom, "We know dear, but it's been four years. Let's do this at least for our sake." What should I do? Four years ago on my birthday, he left promising to come back at my twentieth birthday. But will he? Sparing a glance at the photo kept at my bedside table, photo of his and mine, I turned back to my family. We took that four years back on my birthday..when he left. After he left, we were in touch for sometime, chatting through e-mail and other ways. But then he shut down, all his social accounts for reason not known to me. I don't even know the reason he left. The few days after he left, he sent me a last mail about not being able to contact me and once again reminding me that he'll be back. Apparently I should have moved out from my parent's house by now but thankfully I joined the college near my house, the same college my brother joined too while he was still studying. And our parents insisted we stay with them so we didn't move out. But my brother finished his college and had now got a job so he's gonna move out after a month from now. I was glad for him. From then on, I didn't celebrate my birthday except for just the family dinner and cake. But today, should I say yes for the party? After all, he did say he would come. What if he doesn't? That would only hurt me. On the positive note, what if he does!? Let's do this, after all he never broke a promise he made to me. I realised with joy. "Sammy! You there? Shall I call the doctor?" I was broken out of my thoughts by my brother. "No, thank you" I glared at him. "Soooo..." They all started. "Okay!" I jumped up from my bed and hugged them all. They left a sigh of relief and hugged me while patting my back. After sometime of chatting and planing about the upcoming night, they all left. My brother was the last one to leave before which he turned to me with news. "Sammy. Michael called." He said. As soon as he did that I blushed deep red at the mention of my boyfriend. He chuckled at that. "By the way, he told me to inform you to call him up and that he tried calling you but you didn't pick up. I told him you must be snoring to be able to hear your phone ring." He teased. Fetching the pillow beside me, I threw it at him but unfortunately he ducked. He laughed harder, "Love you sis." He said between his laugh and left closing the door behind him. I quickly picked up my phone from the bedside table and clicked open to see around three missed calls from Michael, two from Elisa and Cammy, my close friends. My phone was in a silent mode that's why I couldn't pick up. Not because I was snoring while sleeping really. I don't even snore! I think. I quickly dialed Michael's number. He picked up at the second ring as always. "Good morning, baby. Happy birthday." He gushed at me. "Thanks." I said shyly. "You coming for the party today?" I asked him knowing all well that my parents must have told him already. "So you agreed for the party?" He asked back in surprise. I hummed in answer. "That's great. So how about we spend the day together? I'll come pick you up in an hour. Okay?" "Okay! But only till lunch, I gotta go shopping with Elisa and Cammy." I told him. "Those girls always take half of the time which you should be spending with me." He groaned but agreed later. I blushed at his confession before hanging up. Michael and I have been in relationship for about two years now. He is a very sweet and kind person. He asked me to be his girlfriend after six months we met and started to go out, during first year of my college. We have been inseparable since then. Now I am in the last year of my college. I fell in love with him because of his personality. He's not the jock nor the bad boy type, he is just..himself. That's why I love him with everything in me. I then called Elisa and Cammy to confirm our shopping trip and invited them for my birthday party. They were happy that I wanted to celebrate with everyone this time. I later went and took a nice shower, soothing my muscles and washing away the sleep from my eyes. I covered myself in a towel and entered back into my room. Blow drying my brown wavy hair, I pulled it up in a ponytail. I quickly applied a bit of powder from my compact on my face and eyeliner around my eyes and put on a navy blue top and a pair of black jeans. Just then I heard the door bell ring. Michael! I ran down the stairs and opened the door and there he was standing with a bouquet in one of his hand and a chocolate box in the other. As his eyes met mine, they lightened up in happiness. We came close to each other and he leaned his face towards mine, giving me an endearing kiss, lightning up my day. We heard someone clearing their throat to see my brother stand behind us with his hands folded and a strict mock expression on his face. I blushed red being caught while Michael stood grinning. My brother walked to us and he gave a man to man hug to Michael. Michael presented me the gifts he brought for me. "Thanks." I muttered, still blushing, madly. Seeing that it was a box of my favourite dark chocolate. I quickly put one into my mouth while Michael and Ricky laughed at my patience. I hit them both on their arms. I gave the gifts to my brother, telling him we were going out and that to inform Mom and Dad. He nodded and asked us to be safe and we repeated his action as we left. We stepped inside his black jeep enjoying the early morning journey as he drove he us to a farm, his family's farm to be precise. It was a long drive of about two hours since it was on other side of the town. As we reached, I took a fresh breath of air, feeling fresh. I turned to thank him but before I could my stomach growled lowly. My cheeks burnt with embarrassment. "Oh! You didn't eat your breakfast. I am so sorry I didn't notice. Ugh! I'm such an idiot." He kept rambling to himself, placing his hands on his head. Grabbing his hands I made him look at me. Staring into his brown eyes showed me the amount of affection visible in them. I smiled at him, "It's okay. Stop stressing yourself on that." He nodded his head. "Come on let's go and eat." I was about to let go when he held my hands, "Not before I get a kiss." He declared. I leaned in shyly and he captured my lips with his in a long sweet kiss, hunger long forgotten. We finally ate our breakfast and spent the day by climbing trees and picking fruits etc. All in all, it was an amazing day. By lunch we ate our food and later we left to the mall where my friends were waiting for me. Reaching the mall, I searched for my friends. They noticed first and came running towards me, crushing my bones in the process of hugs. They saw Michael and hugged him too while I decided to bid Michael farewell until tonight. "Bye baby, see you tonight." He said and we kissed each other. My friends awed looking at us as he left. I turned to my friends. "Let's go shopping!" Both Elisa and Cammy yelled in unison and dragged me inside the mall while I was laughing at their madness. "After so many years, you gonna celebrate your birthday. So we'll do a lot of shopping for today." Cammy said and Elisa nodded. "K..." I replied unsure. I am not that of a shopping person. We then tried several outfits. I usually try and come out the dressing room to show my friends but they decline all of them. Finally I wore a one sided shoulder black dress, it fit perfectly around my curves. I came out to see what they would say. Seeing me, they squealed and screamed a "Yes!" In unison. They too chose their dresses, Elisa chose a dark blue shoulder less dress whereas Cammy took a light cream, strapped dress accentuating her tan skin. We then purchased matching accessories to go with it and bid our goodbyes, promising to meet tonight. Reaching home, I fell asleep in my room until it was time to get ready for the evening. Getting up from my sleep, no thanks to the alarm clock, I took a long shower and stepped out of the bathroom in a robe. As I am working on my hair, I get the feeling that something's gonna happen soon, something that will change my life. What I don't know is if it's for the good or bad? Or may be I am just thinking too much about this. Just nervousness I guess! After curling my hair, I applied some compact powder on my face, applied thin line of eyeliner, a little mascara, a soft red lipstick and a little blusher. I then wore a black necklace on my neck, along with black ring and black shoes and my nails painted deep red. And I was ready! I heard the door bell ring and went downstairs to see Elisa and Cammy enter adorned with beautiful dresses. When their eyes fell on me, they gasped. "Hi guys!" I called out and hugged them. "My God, Sammy! You look gorgeous." Elisa said and Cammy agreed eagerly. I blushed and thanked them. "You look beautiful too guys." I complimented them. They thanked me as we made our way to the living room. My parents and brother hugged and complimented me. Many guests were already present before my arrival. My aunts, cousins and uncles were present too as they all wished me. Michael didn't come yet though. I sighed. "Michael's going to have a really hard time leaving your side today." Cammy and Elisa whispered. I smiled secretly at that, not that I minded. Just then I heard the door bell ring. My mother was on her way to go and get it when I stopped her. "I'll take it Mom. Must be Michael." I called out, she smiled and went back to the guests. I walked towards the door as my heart started to beat rapidly. Reaching the door, I opened it swiftly, excited to see him, a gasp escaping my lips at the sight. "Mich- Jonathan..." **********
