I can’t believe I finally did it! I thought it was going to be more difficult than this, but I managed to say everything I wanted to.
I needed to leave now, though.
The moment my feet hit the grass away from the stage, my chest finally loosened enough for me to breathe. Behind me, I could still feel their stares burning through the back of my skull. If looks could kill, I would have dropped dead before making it past the first archway.
I might not die from Rome’s cruelty anymore, but I would absolutely die by my own family’s hands.
I didn’t have a real plan. Not a proper one, anyway. All I knew was that I needed to defer the announcement. It would buy me time and push the story forward just enough so it wouldn’t crush me immediately.
