Chapter 24

ALICE POV

The jeep came screeching down the road as I took the corner quickly.

“Open the gate” I shouted when I noticed that they were not slowing down, the heavy gate opened with a blaring alarm.

“get out the way I shouted at the people that stood in the way as the jeep came rushing in. the men that were standing near the gate jumped out the way avoiding the jeep which stopped with the breaks screeching in protest. I ran towards the jeep the door fling open and hitting my face. isn't that just my luck??

ZONI POV

“Oh my god” Alice I yelled when I heard the metal of the door hit against her face. she was down on her ass clutching her nose. I helped her up turning her face this way and that as I checked her nose.

“You are fine,” I said letting go of her face and turning to some of the men that were on guard that night “get all the men and line the walls, this is not a drill” I shouted as I rushed towards the main buildings, Granville was right behind me as well as brett, I ran towards Porta’s class hoping to hell that he was still in there. I burst through the door, finding the room empty

“f**k” I shouted and ran towards the night buildings. I got to his door. Knocking hard on the door. The women had finally caught up with me, huffing and puffing as then they doubled over trying to catch their breath

“Porta” I shouted when there was no answer. The door flew open as I knocked harder and kept calling for him. the fat man stood there with an angry look on his face

“What is the meaning of this?” he shouted he looked up and down at me when did you get back he said crossing his arms over his chest

“Just now,” I snapped “Two herds are heading this way’’ I shouted before he could say anything else. His eyes widened but he just stood there like I hadn’t just said that we were in huge trouble. His shoulders relaxed and he unfolded his arms

“My dear girl,” he said half laughing at her, you honestly woke me up to tell me that a few eaters were  going to be passing through the area?’ he shook his head and started to s]close the door

“No, you don’t understand,” I said putting my hand out to stop him from closing the door, “it's not just a walk by, we are in the middle of their path” I shouted at him, he frowned at me, knocking my hand from his door

“do not disturb me again” he hissed at me and slammed the door close, I turned to the two men behind me. My mind was reeling the whole camp was in danger and we needed to get everyone ready.  I looked at Brett.

“all young children, pregnant women are all to go to the dining hall, Hannah is in charge of that, make sure she has the orders needed the doors to need to locked, windows closed, no lights” I looked to the ground and then back at Brett, bring back the older boys,” I said softly, “we need more hands-on-deck, and the boys have had enough training to handle a gun from the back lines”

Brett nodded and the three of us made our ways around the night buildings knocking on doors and getting people where they need to be

HANNAH POV

After the instructions were given to me I had the other women help and gather the children to the dining hall Brett had handed his daughter, Nora, to Alice who under his instruction was told to stay behind

“watch after her,” he said before kissing Nora’s forehead and then Alice’s she had looked to the side and went red when she saw I had been the moment between the two. The children had been instructed to bring bedding with them. Each of them making a small bed on the floor of the hall. Scott had run off earlier with the men when they had come by, I had thought there was another breach but I had no thought there would be a much bigger problem on the way.

ZONI POV

Most of the men were now all around the perimeter of the walls, each of them armed. I was on my way back to my old room, knocking on doors as went making sure that everyone was out of the rooms and where they needed to be. Brett mentioned that he hadn’t been able to get Devin out of the room and as much as I hated to admit it I needed him in this.

I hammered on the door

“what?” the door flew open, a woman stood in the doorway,

“Jackie?” I asked completely forgetting why I was there. She lifted her eyebrow, “where is Devin?” I asked trying to look past her, she held out her hand to push me back, giggling  sarcastically

“We are actually a bit busy,” she said in a sickly sweet voice, I frowned at her shoving past her “Hey” she turned on her heel following me back into the room

“get up I need you at the wall,” I said pulling the blanket off of him. which I regretted instantly but I didn't flinch at his nakedness

“why he said bored as he looked at me sitting up slowly could hear Jackie behind me huffing at the fact he made no more to cover himself us or that he hadn't thrown me out the room yet

“eaters,” I said, “two huge groups are making their way here, we are in the middle of their path” he stood up without another word and started getting dressed.

“hey” Jackie shouted again, he looked at her and turned to look back at me, nodding back as if asking me what he must do about her. I frowned at him leaned to the side

“Dining hall, with other women and children,” I said short off,

“I’m not going there, I’m going with Devin” she snapped walking over to him and taking his arm. I didn't exactly feel like arguing with the poster child of stupid but I shook my head

“You’ll just be in the way,” I said turning and walking out the door

“I can do anything you can” she counted, I shrugged my shoulders,

“Maybe but you have yet to do anything I can” I walked away, “Need you at the wall ASAP I shouted back at Devin as I started running
