Our Days Are Numbered

Chapter 25

The men stood at the walls others were at the ready by the gate. I only had half an idea, I didn’t know what we were up against just yet, and it was bothering me that I didn’t have a solid plan, the eaters were not that far behind us when we had arrived it had taken almost an hour to everyone to where they needed to be.

Devin had eventually shown up with Jackie at his side, I rolled my eyes at the woman that cared more about a broken nail than she did about the safety of the camp, I wanted to pull the gun from her hand she wasn’t holding it correctly and it was rubbing me up the wrong way. A few men were walking along the top of the wall looking out for any sign of the herds.

“Eaters ahead” someone shouted

HANNAH POV

The children were uneasy making it hard to control the noise level, a few of the younger ones had started crying not understanding what was happening. Alice was trying to quieten down two girls while holding on to Nora who was asleep, I had managed to bring down a camping cot for my own baby, I walked up to her

“Let me take her,” I said holding out my arms, she looked at me reluctantly It will be easier for us to be hands-free,” I said softly to her, she handed Nora to me, picking up the next child to comfort them as put Nora down next to Adam. We kept the light off making it a bit harder to see who was having a hard time. Eventually al the kids were back to sleeping leaving myself and the other women sitting at a table listening to the sounds coming from outside. Alice was looking around the women that were around the table

“Where is Jackie?” she asked

ALICE POV

I was going to kill that pain in the ass. I made my way over to the night buildings towards her door knocking on it violently bore I lost my cool completely and forced the door open, her room was empty. I frowned as looked around the empty room,

“where the f**k are you slut bag?” I shouted, I walked out of the room trying to think where I had seen her last, I was pretty sure I had been her sniffing around Devin close to sundown I took the chance running towards the stairs, running up two flights and running down the hall towards the room that Devin was in.

I knocked on the door, which opened after the second knock. f*****g empty. Maybe she was with Devin, I thought to myself, if that was the case she would be fine right? I turned around reaching out to open the door that had closed behind me when I entered the room. I turned the door nob opened the door and came face to face with something that no longer had a face.  I moved back, slamming the door closed as the eater tried to push its self into the room.

“I am soo going to kill that b***h” I said with my back against the door

ZONI POV,

“Take positions!” I shouted as one herd came into view along the north and east walls, they seemed to be passing through with few issues, some bumped against the wall but carried on as though nothing had happened. Maybe this was just another overreaction from me. I watched as the eaters walked by the herd getting thicker and thicker by the second, the Eaters that did attempt to scale the wall were shot down before they could make it to ar up the walls, I could hear the men helping each other by shouting out orders or shouting out potions of eaters that were getting to close.

That’s when a thought crossed my mind the north and east wall were solid, the east wall however was a fence. I  jumped down from the wall running towards the opposite side of the camp. The men that were lined up along the fence were all looking at the eaters that were pushing up against it.

“shoot them down” I shouted “let's create a wall out the bodies” I yelled the men didn’t hesitate to start shooting at the eaters, taking measures to make sure that only head sots were fired otherwise it would have been a wasted shot

GRANVILLE POV

I watched as more and more eaters scaled the walls, they were now climbing over the bodies that were piling up against the wall,

“Hold fire” I shouted grabbing Brett who was next to me and showing him what the eaters were doing

“f**k” he shouted “Devin” he called Devin turned to us looking annoyed as he walked over, pointed at the eaters now using the dead bodies as stairs.

I jumped down from the wall we needed two cars so go out and take down eaters before they got closer to walls, I looked around looking for Zoni, she would probably have a better idea than I did but considering that she was no was in sight I was going to to take charge on this side of the camp figuring that she was dealing with s**t on the side. I pulled Matt and another two of the men from the gate telling them my idea, if we were two in a car we could be able to take down more before they got too close to the camp.

DEVIN POV

I watched as Granville jumped from the wall grabbing men and leading them towards the cars

“Aim at the gates “ I heard Brett shout when he figured out what Granville was doing the heavy gates opened with the alarm blaring attracting more eaters towards the gates. Shots were fired to keep the eaters from getting into the camp,  one Jeep and one of the new cars went flying out the gates. taking down a few eaters as they did. The gates closed again with a clang,

I jumped down from the wall Jackie at my side as made my way to take out the few eaters that had made their way in when the gates opened. Jackie aimed, missing completely, the bullet hitting into the heavily armored gate.

“f**k, I thought you knew how to use that thing” I shouted back at her “you are going to kill someone” she huffed at me but didn’t say anything, I looked back at her she had her arms crossed over her chest

“what?” I turned to face her completely she raised her brow at me and pouted

“I’m not that poor excuse of a woman” she snapped at me. I frowned at her words, moving towards her and taking her by the elbow, and leading her towards the dining hall, I couldn’t deal with this s**t right now

“Hey,” she moaned as I lead her away from the walls “what do you think you are doing?” she said trying to pull her arm away from my hold,

“Taking you to the other woman, can't watch out for you and me with eaters running around. I knocked on the door of the dining hall figuring they had been instructed to keep it clocked.

HANNAH POV

I looked towards the door, getting up quickly as I ran to it unlocking it when I saw Devin’s hair in the window. He pushed Jackie in through the door with her protesting loudly.

“wait!” I shouted  “where is Alice?” he stopped in his tracks

“Alice?” he said slowly his face was a complete mask

Yeah, she went out looking for her” I said pointing back at Jackie who huffed behind me.

“For the love of f**k: Devin shouted and ran off. I looked back at Jackie closing the door and locking the door before I rounded on her.

“where the f**k were you?” I shouted as I walked towards her, I could hear gunshots in the distance she folded her arms over her chest and sneered at me

“I was out there helping,” she said flicking her hair over her shoulder turning around walking away.

ALICE POV

I was going to kill that skinny b***h, I bumped back against the door trying to avoid the eater's arm that was now between the door and getting it closed. The stupid thing pushed back with as much force as I had slammed it sending me flying towards the end of the bed.

Great, I was about t be taken out by Mr. faceless cause I had to do the right thing and try to help someone. I moved back as the eater made its way into the room all eyes on me.

“f**k, f**k, f**k” I said trying to stand up

BANG

“AHHHHH !” I screamed as the eater fell to my feet, I looked at it for a second is head half missing I kicked it away from me and looked up. Devin stood there in all his godly-ness 

“Oh thank  f**k” I said standing up and then sitting down heavily on the bed.

“What the hell were you doing out here?” Devin said lowering his gun before grabbing the eater by the leg and pulling it out of the room and throwing it over the ledge. It hit the ground with a thud. I waited until he returned to the room before I answered him

“I was looking for Jackie, she wasn't in her room and I remember her last being with you,” I said in one breath

“she was I just took her to the dining hall,” he said looking outside the door, he was quiet for a few seconds then looked at me

“Are you going to come with me to the wall? Could probably use you out there”

“I need to get back to Nora,” I said his face fell at the mention of her name, and he turned his back on me before calling over his shoulder

“I’ll take you back,” he said walking out the door, with me half running to keep up with him. The truth of the matter was I could probably get back on my own without a hic-up but why risk it?

GRANVILLE POV

Okay, so this seemed easier in my mind when I ad first thought of it. however, we had to be constantly moving about to make sure that the eaters didn't attack and damage the car. we had taken a few out thinking we had mowed down and thinned the herd enough so that the men at the wall could stop the few that were around there at the time. But we were wrong, we were so wrong…

“Turn back” I heard Matt shout as he came speeding past us, I looked towards the darkness, something was moving I put the headlights on, catching a glance at the second herd on its way towards us… we were in trouble

DEVIN POV

I dropped Alice at the safe place ad decided to go to the east fence where Zoni was, I would risk getting punched again but I needed to make sure she was fine. I could hear men shouting and gunshots all around me which is why I found something horribly wrong when the east side of the camp suddenly went completely silent

“Back the f**k up” I heard  Zoni shout. I ran, I had no idea what I thought I was going to do but I didn’t expect to see this. 

ZONI POV

“Stop shooting!” I shouted noticing that the eaters were now climbing up and over the lifeless bodies giving them more height and access to the fence. “Back up!” I shouted the men didn’t react fast enough to my first warning making me panic and shout louder

“BACK THE f**k UP” I shouted they all looked back at me before they took a few steps back. The eaters pushing and leaning against the fence.

It bent and groaned under the weight of the eaters.

“Run,” I said “RUN!!!” I watched in horror as it came down, the f*****g fence gave way and eaters were pouring in.
