Chapter 20

1742 Words
That was the last thing she remembered and everything went blank! "Princess! Are you okay?" The King scampered to her using his hands to tap her repeatedly on the jaw to bring her back to her senses, "Kath, Wake up! Kath!" He exclaimed worriedly as the soldiers joined him to assist Kath in whatever way they could. The King uses his eyes to scan her body and he could see the traces of Ravana's fingers around her already red neck. Not only was her neck red, but her face also was in the darkest shade of red: his daughter must have suffered a lot in the cold hands of Ravana. "A pleasant surprise, right?" Ravana said as he stepped out of the room with a malicious smirk on his face. The people were stunned as to how he has gotten the same facial resemblance with the king. Surprisingly, the king wasn't a bit moved by his facial resemblance with him or whatsoever. Ravana has done so many unbelievable things so, why will he be astounded by such a thing? He has other things to worry about and his unconscious daughter was obviously one of them. No doubt, seeing his daughter in this state had triggered something in him that he almost wanted to pull out Ravana's hair from his scalp with his bare hands. How can he be so… cruel? How could he do such to his only daughter? He could imagine the pain his daughter must have gone through. Pushing her forcefully on this very hard door that, even the door itself pulled out; was just so inhuman. Well, Ravana himself wasn't human so, it is quite understandable. "What has she done to you? And why have you done such a thing to her?" The king questioned; slowly standing on his feet as he stared furiously at Ravana. That malicious smirk never left Ravana's face as he replied, "she wanted to go beyond her power and I decided to teach her a lesson. She will bear the consequences for disobeying my words. But, she won't bear the consequences alone, you all will bear the consequences alongside her." Ravana said and took a step forward, "she is to blame. I wasn't supposed to descend today cause I still have some things going on, but then…" He paused as he pointed his finger to the king and continued, "your daughter wanted to act smart even after I have given her my words." Again, Ravana took some steps forward and stopped once he has gotten right in front of the King. His malicious smirk slipped; his jaw tightened and his forehead creased. Surprisingly, the king wasn't moved by his sudden change of facial expression nor was he scared of him. Like, why would he? When his daughter is lying unconscious on the floor. "Now, I give you two options, is either you hand over that book to me or I will summon my monsters to descend right now with me and you all will live in t*****e for the rest of your lives." Ravana threatened, but still, the king wasn't intimidated by his words. He also couldn't tell where his courage was coming from, probably, his daughter being unconscious has given him enough courage to stand up against Ravana. He scoffed and replied, "Never! Besides, even with the book or without the book in your custody, you and your monsters will definitely descend someday." The King was aware of the fact that Ravana was only trying to play tricks on him. Ravana was only looking for prey he would launch on. "Samuel, if you hand over that book to me, I assure you, I and my monsters will no longer descend in Nazirites and you all will live a peaceful life afterward," Ravana said these words with a smile plastered on his face. The people began mumbling amid themselves. They knew that Ravana was never to be trusted but, what if; what if he meant his words this time. What if after handing over the book to Ravana, they get to live peacefully with their loved ones? What if… So many questions raced through their minds but no! The King wasn't falling for this. He could read Ravana's intentions as if they were written on his foreheads. This is all Ravana's trick to make them lose the hope they had and then, they get to live in his torments and custody for the rest of their lives. When Ravana saw that the king wasn't falling for his words, his facial expression softened as he turned to look at the unconscious daughter, "I will give her a second chance to live. I will make her come back to live…" he paused as he gradually turned to look at the king. He raises his right hand and continued, "her life... is in my hands. Just hand over the book to me and see your daughter coming back to life; I assure you." After he had finished saying these words, he half-smiled. At this point, the king was beginning to give it a second thought. Ravana was aware of the fact that his weakness was his daughter; so he was using it against him. But on second thought, will he spare her life if he hands over the book to him? Would he? Again, Ravana is not to be trusted. Ravana can easily change his words and do the reverse of what he has spoken. But then again, his daughter; his only daughter was the only hope and strength he has. To him, it seems like his daughter, his hope and strength was laying down unconscious on the floor. On the other hand, if Ravana is so bent on making sure his daughter doesn't read that book then, she might as well be the chosen. It seems like things were beginning to get crystal clear to the king with every action Ravana makes. If he hands over this book to him then his daughter will be of no help to them anymore. Well, he could easily spare life, knowing fully well that, the book was now in his custody his daughter will no longer be a threat to him. Ravana is smart but sometimes, he is way smarter than him. "Am sorry but, I can't. You could take her life if you want to." The king said at once and Ravana has to fight the urge in restraining himself to express how aghast he was by the king's words. Heaven knows the king wouldn't want his daughter dead. He has to hide his fear; he needs to act like Ravana's word isn't getting deep down in his skin. The people of Nazirites still couldn't digest and take in the king's words. He was willing to get his daughter killed for the book? He was willing to go to such length for that book? They mumbled among themselves cause they were beginning to sense that the war had just begun. Ravana chuckled and said, "I know you don't mean that." The King summoned up enough courage and took a step forward closing the little space between them. "I mean it… and, it is coming from the depth of my heart." "Go get the fighting tools!" A soldier commanded after it dawned on him that a war would definitely begin at any moment from now. Since the king wasn't willing to oblige to Ravana's word, his monster will descend at any moment from now. The majority of the soldiers ran to get their fighting tools coming back minutes later; standing behind the king. It seems like the king's confidence was also giving them some confidence to stand firm against Ravana. "You and your people seem to have gotten enough confidence over the past few days. Why don't you capture me then?" Ravana said mockingly as the king nodded his head, "I was considering that. Since you've said it yourself, why don't we... capture you then." The king said as Ravana held unto his stomach and burst into laughter "What's so funny?" "Why the hell is he laughing so loud?" "So, monsters also laugh out loud?" These questions ran through the minds of the people of Nazirites as they continued watching him. Ravana suddenly stopped laughing as he pointed his finger to himself and asked, "Capture me? Don't tell me you mean that? Seriously, you really think you can?" The king turned to the soldiers and commanded, "Capture him!" After he has said these words, he turned to look at Ravana and said, "yes, I think… I can!" When the king said these words to Ravana, he silently marveled for the hundred times on where exactly his confidence was coming from. Capture Ravana? Can he… do this? When Ravana saw that the soldiers were beginning to move in his direction and were beginning to surround him in a circular motion, he burst into another round of laughter, "What? You've got to be kidding me." That was the only thing that could fall of his mouth amid laughter. The soldiers surrounded him pointing their swords towards him. He stopped laughing and whispered to the king, "we will be right back!" With that said, he disappeared. His sudden disappearance has left the people in awe. Well, they were just putting up a show with the truth ringing in their heads. Like, how can they capture Ravana: the leader of the Descendants of the black moon; that so… not possible. The King breath out a sigh of relief. After putting up a show a while ago, he needs to breathe. Challenging Ravana seems like the greatest thing he has ever accomplished. But, he hoped that the action he took wouldn't add to their predicament. Since Ravana is gone, for now, he should focus more on his unconscious daughter. They have just a little time left since Ravana assured them that, they will be right back. The King was aware of the fact that he has truly started the war. Even though Ravana had this smile on his face the whole time, the king felt the rage of anger in him, and when he said those words, "we will be right back!" The king could hear how his voice sounded with terror, and by the word, "we," They knew he was referring to himself and his monsters. They had always known a day like this will come and today, will definitely… Be that day!
