chapter 1 the weight of the blood
The kingdom of Pana was a land that can never be forgotten.
Its hills, rivers and Forests carried memory the way flesh carries blood, memories of both Mortal and immortal were included.
The people clung to the belief that blood itself preserved the sins of those who came before.
In Pana, a man’s honor or his disgrace is not buried with his body.
It live to hunt his children, flowing like an unseen inheritance through their veins.
Pana was a kind of a kingdom, lead by a king whose main purpose is to exist a strong monarch.
Always ready to destroy whatever is going to hinder his reign.
Even with this kind of heart, King Loko is not cruel or either is he tyrant, but posses an unforgiving heart. To him once a mistake is always a mistake.
To Him his words are final, how he sees it, is how he does it.
Though he is benevolence to his people, took the security of Pana to such a very strong level, But his method those not always work for all. But no one dares to question his edict.
He wages war against kingdoms to increase his territory.
For that ther kingdoms be friend Pana because when it is becoming a threat, King Loko will march with his army and take over. Slowly they become the strongest kingdom.
Several and different kind of army was established by him.
Among all the militaries in Pana the strongest of all is the Royal guards. The soldier has to pass through series of test and endurance before an he is picked to be a part of it.
One of the famous royal guard "Omi", once a proud warrior of the royal guard. Closer to the king than any other guard, he was the assistant in command of the Royal guards. Some even call him the King right hand. All he always did is to take oder from the King, never in his life has he questioned any royal edict pass to him by the King.
Omi’s name had carried weight among the palace guard as the bravest. Neither is he just loyal but also skillful with his sword. Ever since he join the military, never had he lose to anyone in a fight being it a just fist fight or weapons are involved. Either in war or just a spar with collegeous he always win.
He had marched in war armor through the palace gates, spear glinting beneath banners embroidered with the king’s crest. March to war with king and won all of their battles. Children had shouted his name in play, pretending their sticks were spears, as they immitate Omi. His populace dominate non can deny that.
He was said to have the steady heart of a lion, the kind of man who stood firm with the King no matter his decision. Omi thought being loyal is everything but he didn't know that being loyal also come with a hefty price also
Honor in Pana was as brittle as glass. One years of accomplishment could be buried with just a single mistake. No room for explanation.
The day Omi was cast out finally arrive, the Royal edict was pass to him while him kneeling before the King and the whole court.
The Grand duke read it loud so everyone could hear. "Omi who had committed a heinous crime, will be sent on an exile on a far village in the kingdom edge." It was an exile edict together with his family.
No one could say for certain what crime he had committed as no dared questioned the king.
Some whispered that Omi had betrayed a comrade in battle, leaving another man to die beneath the spears of the bandit.
Others swore he had spoken words of defiance to the king himself,
an insult too grave for forgiveness.
Every knows how loyal he is to the throne, so know one taught of treason.
No one knows the truth, every rumor about his exile was only on prediction, no true source. The truth only lies between the king and Omi himself.
But in Pana, the truth did not matter as much as the story people chose to believe. The story with stronger voice is what people are made to believe.
And so Omi’s fall became a tale carried in the voice of the whole kingdom, a warrior stripped of rank, armor torn from his body before the royal court, The King casting him out without mercy. He was cast out not as a man, but as a warning. That had always been King Loko way, no man is precious enough to escape the law, no relationship could be valued over the law.
If it could happen to Omi of all people it could happen to any body.
They sent him away like a no body. banished to a nameless village on the kingdom’s edge, where roads turned to dust and the shadow of the palace no longer reached.
He was sent on exile with his wife and his infant new born boy, "Jiki." He was not even a week old. His wife is his only family as he was not born a noble, but a man who had was raised in the street found honour himself to become the best knights. No one stood to appeal against the royal edict because they all know it consequences that follows. rather most corrupt official were full with joy, that one of the king's man had turn against him.
At village in kingdom edge where Omi was sent on exile. Jiki right from birth was different from other infants others could easily tell, His eyes, too sharp and unyielding, A baby’s cry should sound fragile, but his sound like that of a roar of wild creature. The village is a small settlement in which everybody knows everybody.
From the beginning, Jiki was not like the others.
When he was three, he fell from the cliffs beyond the village, tumbling against rock, skin thorn and knuck unconciouse. Any other child would have died immediately, but Jiki rose with only bruises, his bones unbroken, skin seal as if he was never wounded.
At seven, a popular serpent with venom black as pitch sank its fangs into Jiki's arm, witness by hunters passing by, rush to his rescue, the serpent quickly ran into hiding as always.
No doubt had any villagers survive a bite from the snake before, it is threat that had been a serious disturbance to the people's of the village. Hunters tried all they could to get rid of it but it only come out when it need to prey.
Everyone await Jiki's dead, as he was knuck unconciouse But Jiki awoke the next morning, stronger than before, the wound closed. This had never happened before.
As the whole village rose in surprise, fell into wonder, non had survive the bite before.
The more shocking news hit the villagers. the snake was found dead, as the hunter who rescue Jiki were heading back to the forest, they discover's the black venomous serpent lifelessness body, the black serpent who had been a predator himself turn prey from tasting the blood of jiki, the hunter who experiement on the snake lifeless body was sure that it is jiki blood that kill the snake.
It was a blessing to the villagers. The news that deserve a celebration because the black serpent had taken some to their early grave. Finally The the venomous snake is gone.
But at same time a thought begin to trigger in their mind.
What kind of being is this young one.
That his blood so strong to take down the black serpent. Plus other mystic things that happen around him.
Since no one to answers their questions.or explain his difference to them so they were quick to get it wrong. Hatred was their closest option, as it begin to develop gradually from the villagers heart toward Jiki.
A being that its existence cannot be justified will only bring chaos to this village. They branded him the cause being.
In the village full with barbaric and uncivilized mind. Hating him was the shield they could think to protect themselves from his wrath. In case their was any.
Just as a kid that is only of seven year old, already receiving hatred from almost the whole villagers is alot for his mental stability, but the barbaric villagers didn't care about any of that, their ignorance is what made them even more dangerous. What ever they can decode is what they will believe.
Jiki had no one to shield him form the hateful action coming his way.
His mother left when he was barely a two years old for an unknown reason. She didn't say a goodbye to either Jiki or his Dad. No knows her where abouts after that.
His Father Omi,His tarnish honour and the turning apart of his once loving family was a lot for him, broken down now make alcohol as his humble companion, turn a heavy drinker, slowly turn addict that could barely stay conscious even for just a day.
To his motherless world and drunkard father it is almost like jiki is left alone in this world to face the cruelty of the world alone.
Jiki was already in pitiful condition due to his family. But now the villagers sees him as the bearer of misfortune for their village.
No children will want to play with Jiki, neither is he welcome in any place even in his own house. The moment he only found peace is when his Father is out Drinking and he got the house alone to himself.
The villagers hated him, not for committing any crime but for being different.
"A blood venomous enough to kill the black serpent means it is more dangerous than the black serpent itself and it lead to no good." That was the villagers wisest decision.
Not long after the incident of the serpent before the arrival of a plague, widely spreading across the villages, took the life of lots of elderly one's and many young children lives were lost, only very few survive the crucial sickness.
No single child in the village that didn't catch the plague except for jiki, very few survive while most lost their lives.
During the plague torment Jiki didn't even catch cold talk more of catching the plagues.
The villagers turn to him for causing the plague, "Something like this have never happen before, the one with the cause have finally bring his wrath to us." That was what was going through the villagers as one man voice out and everyone nod in agreement.
They drag Jiki from his house give him beating and was tied to the tree for several days neither did they give him food nor water,
their thoughts was if he keep healing back from a cut of blade, then hunger and thirsty should t*****e him till he fall.
He spent days before they release him, any other will died easily from the t*****e but jiki survived it.
His Father didn't bother to look for his missing son, though he didn't care even he never comes back.
Despite his name "Jiki" they never call him that, they found him underserving of the name.
They gave him names not meant for a child.
“Wraith.”
“Demon born.”
“The Deathless.”
"the caused one."
" Misfortune bearer"
They brand him with name of chaos and torment.
Names that clung like chains, that burned deeper than any scar.
As young a child, he committed no crime, but just paying the price for being born different, when he never ask to be born that way. Every child deserve lovely upbring but Jiki was deny of that.
Is it his destiny to be punished this early at this age in life. Or something went wrong somewhere.
