In the pristine sanctuary of Eden, a society of immortals lives under a sacred mandate: eternal life requires absolute purity, and carnal love is the cardinal sin that doomed Adam and Eve to mortality. For centuries, Lili and Ethan have obeyed the doctrines, yet both harbor a secret, dangerous curiosity about the world beyond the colossal walls enclosing their paradise.

When a cataclysmic flood washes mortal remains atop the perimeter ramparts, their curiosity turns into an unyielding obsession. Meeting in secret upon the towering parapets, hours of forbidden conversation stretch into years of shared longing until a single kiss ignites an undeniable, passionate love.

Discovered by the zealous, ruthless Jude and condemned to death upon the Tree of Life, the lovers face execution for their heresy. In a desperate bid for survival, Lili eats the Forbidden Fruit, unlocking the power to communicate with beasts, while Ethan consumes it to awaken the voice of the earth and flora. Guided by ancient roots through subterranean depths, they escape their eternal prison—only to emerge into the overwhelming chaos of the modern world.

In the celestial sanctuary of Eden, to bleed was an impossibility, and to feel was a cardinal sin. For millennia, the children of the quiet dawn existed as hollow vessels of perfection. Untouched by decay, immune to disease, and stripped of all carnal hunger, they drifted through pristine alabaster courts beneath a sky that never wept. They were timeless, symmetrical, and completely dead inside. Until tonight. High above the forbidden pomegranate groves, suspended upon the dizzying parapets of the Great Wall, the icy laws of paradise were about to shatter into ash. Lili leaned her back against the ancient, moss-draped stone, her chest heaving in rapid, ragged breaths. Her skin, rich and obsidian, glistened with a fine sheen of heat—a forbidden sensation that no immortal vessel was ever designed to produce. Before her stood Ethan, his golden hair wild against the howling alpine wind, his sharp blue eyes burning with an unholy, untamed fire. "We cannot stay here," Lili whispered, her voice trembling like a fraying thread. "Jude has doubled the sentry rotations along the perimeter. If the High Council finds us at the boundary stone—" "Let them find us," Ethan growled softly, stepping into her space with dangerous urgency. He trapped her against the battlement, his broad hands slamming onto the masonry on either side of her shoulders. The scent of rain, wild ozone, and mountain pine rolled off him in suffocating waves. "I have spent five centuries wandering this golden prison, chanting praises to an empty sky. I will not pretend for one more second that my soul isn't starving." "Ethan, you know the ancient warnings," Lili breathed, her amber eyes wide, caught between primal terror and irresistible temptation. "Adam and Eve looked upon each other with mortal hunger, and the Creator ripped the divinity from their veins. Their touch turned their blood to dust. Passion is the contagion." "Then let it infect me." Ethan closed the final fraction of distance. He reached down, his sun-warmed hand sliding beneath the dark silk wraps at her collarbone, his bare palm pressing directly over the center of her chest. Lili gasped as an agonizing, electric shock exploded across her ribs. It was not holy peace. It was a searing, carnal awakening. Beneath Ethan's fingertips, deep within the center of Lili's immortal frame where only hollow stillness had ever reigned, something violently awoke. A crimson spark ignited. A rhythmic, thunderous thud hammered against her ribcage—raw, furious, and terrifyingly alive. A mortal heartbeat. The skin over her sternum began to bleed a radiant, crimson luminescence. The crimson glow spread upward, illuminating Ethan’s fierce jawline, setting his blue eyes ablaze with reverent madness. He did not pull away from the forbidden anomaly; instead, he pressed his other hand to his own chest. Beneath his linen tunic, a matching crimson pulse answered hers. Two outlaw hearts, thrumming in synchronized defiance, echoing across the silent edge of the world. "You feel it, don't you?" Ethan murmured, his voice thick with raw emotion as his fingers tangled into the dark coils of her hair. "We are no longer stone statues, Lili. We are alive." "Ethan..." He didn't give her room to retreat. Ethan seized the back of her neck and crashed his lips down upon hers. The collision was absolute. The taste was wild honey, ozone, and stolen fire. Centuries of enforced emotional drought dissolved into a desperate, possessive collision of mouths and breath. Lili clutched his shoulders, her fingernails biting deep into his linen vest as she pulled him down, surrendering completely to the madness of the flesh. Every law, every chant, every doctrine Jude had preached was incinerated in the searing heat of their embrace. They were immortal rebels standing at the edge of the drowned abyss, daring the cosmos to tear them apart. And paradise answered. CLANG! The deafening sound of celestial bronze striking stone echoed along the high battlements. A blinding arc of silver light erupted around the parapet, slicing through the darkness and sealing both ends of the narrow walkway. Lili and Ethan were violently thrown apart as the ancient stonework hummed with paralyzing divine wards. Lili collapsed against the parapet, her hand frantically clutching her glowing chest, her amber eyes darting across the platform in sudden, suffocating dread. A dozen Temple Guardians stepped out from the swirling mist, their silver-plated armor reflecting the moonlight, long halberds leveled directly at Ethan’s throat. Parting the ranks with calculated, venomous grace came Jude. Her sleek copper hair was pulled tight, her razor-sharp features set in cold, triumphant fury. In her right hand, she held the sacred seal of the High Council; in her left, a barbed scourge forged of celestial iron. "Abomination," Jude hissed, her pale eyes locking onto the dying crimson pulse lingering beneath Lili’s collar. "The serpent's rot has infected the sanctuary." Ethan immediately threw himself in front of Lili, his jaw clenched, his posture coiled to strike. "Touch her and I will throw you off this wall, Jude." Jude’s lips curled into a cruel, pitiless sneer. "You will not touch anything ever again, heretic," Jude declared, raising her hand to signal the guards. "By decree of the High Council, the penalty for carnal awakening is absolute eradication. Chain them. If the boy resists, rip the beating heart from his chest."
