~Alpha Bastians POV~
"So that's why the women of this pack are acting so insane?!" I glared towards my mother. "They are acting like I plan to be with any woman I have a chance to!"
She shrugged her shoulders while looking over at my father, "Well, maybe. I only sent word to a few of the packs around us who have daughters in the alpha and beta families that you might be looking to take a chosen mate and we will be planning a ball so you can get to know some of the she wolves...Some of the omegas might have been around when I was writing to the other packs. I didn't tell them when exactly we would have the ball, since we didn't know how long you would be out with the trackers, but now that you are home we can begin the preparations! This is going to be one of the biggest events of the year!"
With that, she clapped her hands together excitedly and ran from the room before I could challenge her on when we would be having this ball. If my mother had it her way and could get it prepared in just a day, it would be in two nights I'm sure. I rolled my eyes while my father rose from his seat and laughed lightly at his mate's antics.
"She has always loved planning large events for this pack. You know that," he chuckles while going through the office door, leaving me alone with my thoughts and the angry alpha wolf inside me.
I got comfortable in my desk chain while gathering the papers littering the top of my desk. I really have been absent, haven't I? I really didn't miss all the paperwork you have to go through as an alpha, but it is a must, I thought to myself while prioritizing which papers to go through first. I could feel the anger arise inside my mind before he ever spoke and I sighed because I knew that he would have something to say. I'm just glad he didn't explode at mother when she mentioned the ball.
"How in the f******g H**l are you possibly okay with entertaining other she wolves?!" Baskier yelled in my head, causing a headache to start forming immediately.
"I have to, Baskier. For the sake of our pack and for us-," I tried to say before he interrupted.
"Oh? The f**k you do?! It's not for the sake of you or I! I will NEVER be okay taking a chosen mate while ours is still out there! She is alive and it is ridiculous that our mother and father can even suggest such a thing after we have told them that we KNOW she is still alive!" Baskier growled and I could feel his hackles rising in my mind.
"Baskier...even though we can feel that she is alive, we don't feel connected to her anymore. We lost her before we even got to enjoy the feeling of the mate bond for more than a year, before we ever even got to have pups with our Goddess given mate..." I said, sadness lacing my voice.
"EXACTLY!" Baskier continued. "We haven't even gotten to explore everything having a Goddess Given mate has to offer. We NEED to find her and then we can be with our mate. I don't want to choose some random wolf to take Laila and Liza's rightful place..."
With that, I stopped even trying to reply to my wolf. There would definitely be no getting through to him, so I just preoccupied my brain with the paperwork about our new warrior trainees and how the vampire attacks had been while we were gone. It seemed while we were gone and visiting with the closest vampire pack to us, others were still attacking us. I looked at the papers intensely trying to figure out what coven could have been attacking my people while we were with another coven, the obvious choice of vampires that would've been the ones hunting us.
Whichever coven is continuously attacking us is likely the same one that has taken Laila. Why else would vampires be trying to take us down? And if they are trying to take us down, what better way then to take one of the pinnacles of leadership in the pack? These thoughts continued to flit through my mind while I studied the papers to distract myself from the ball I would have to attend in the next few weeks.
~Prince Kyo's POV~
I walked out of the dungeon and up to the floor my bedroom is on, noticing Laila's blood staining my hands. Before I could reach my room, my second in command ran up to me.
"Your highness," Seth said as he bowed to me. "I just wanted to report about the attacks at Moon Lake."
I nodded at him to continue and changed direction from my bedroom to the office kept a few doors away from my room, waving for Seth to follow me while we discuss things.
"So we have been steadily attacking those wretched dogs every other night. They have managed to k**l off a few of our warriors, but we seem to be picking them off much easier. It has been especially easy to win the fights with their alpha away from the pack for the last few weeks."
This piqued my interest as I sat at the marble desk and held my hands together on the top of it, Seth sitting across from me comfortably in the chair.
"That wannabe must be trying to search for his long lost mate, wouldn't you think?" I asked with a devious smirk on my face. "Too bad he will never find her. Especially since my hatred got the better of me and she will likely be d**d in a couple of days."
Seth shifted in his seat a bit while looking at me to confirm what I meant.
"I got angry that she might have messed up things for my sons and I when I went to visit her in the dungeon earlier and I may have bitten her. Therefore, since our venom is lethal in most cases to werewolves, she will most likely d*e before Bastian ever gets a whiff of where she could be. I am certain that he wasn't capable enough to figure out any leads from that worthless coven near his pack. Anyways, how is everything else going in our coven that you can tell of?"
"Well sire, so far everything seems to be going well. Isabel mentioned to me earlier how the twins seem to thrive here, especially Jasper. Julien is doing well also, just not maturing as fast as his brother. Isabel said she is a little worried how things will go as they get older and their wolf sides develop, but that isn't for another fourteen to sixteen years from now so we have time to figure out how you want to proceed with the little muts. We -," I interrupted him at the derogatory term he used towards my sons.
Before Seth even had a chance to react, I flew over my desk and grabbed him by his throat, pushing him to the floor. My claws left blood marks on his normally flawless skin as my anger enveloped us.
"HOW DARE YOU CALL MY CHILDREN THAT?!" I yelled at Seth.
"Sire.....I.....sorry," Seth tried to speak and apologize, a worthless feat with my hand wrapped around his throat tightly.
"I should k**l you for disrespecting your future leaders," I stated plainly with no emotion on my face. "Those two boys will be in charge of you all, with a vampire mate or two, so that you lot will understand you have to respect them despite the fact that they are wolves. Maybe I should just go and take care of Isabel to make up for the impoliteness you just had."
Immediately, Seth began to try to shake his head no, pleading with me not to harm the woman he loves. I let my hand off of his neck slightly just so I could hear him apologize and beg fully.
"Please no, sire?" he asked while not looking directly in my eyes. "I didn't mean how that came out about the boys. I understand they are your sons. I just wasn't sure how you planned to keep the vampires in line with werewolves as their leaders, but the plan you have with their mates is amazing and will do just what is needed. How very smart you are, your highness!"
I accepted the flattery and got off of Seth, allowing him to stand up off the floor, and I walked towards the office door. I opened the door to shoo Seth out so I could eventually get cleaned up for the night and go see Jacqueline; however, when I opened the door I was surprised to see Jasper outside it.
"Son, what are you doing up so late and why are you eavesdropping at my office door?" I asked, while walking up to him and ushering him into the room. 'You can go, Seth. Thank you for the report and I hope you learned something from tonight's...event."
Seth quickly left the room, not giving me the chance to revoke mercy on him or his woman. I pushed Jasper to the seat Seth had occupied and sat in the chair next to him.
"So, what is the issue that caused you to seek me out tonight? How long had you been standing there at the door?" I asked questionably, wanting to make sure that Jasper hadn't heard anything regarding Laila.
"I got to door only when I heard a bang," he said somewhat improperly, different than how he would normally speak with his mature vocabulary. "I got scared and I heard you talk to Seth meanly about Izzy. So I stayed outside."
I took a minute studying Jasper's body language to see if he was being honest or not. He does seem a bit scared, I thought to myself. But is that because of the confrontation with Seth or did he hear about what I did to his mother? Does he realize that I had lied to Julien and himself and that Laila was still in the castle after I told them she had left? Does he realize I have likely m******d her now? Jasper squirmed in his seat a bit, but didn't make any movements or comments regarding Laila, so I decided to just ignore that he might have heard some things he shouldn't have. He is only a toddler after all and even if he heard something, it's not like he will remember it.
"Come on, son. Let's get you back to your bedroom. I'm sure your brother is sensing that you're not near him and he is worried in his sleep about it," I said while grabbing Jasper's hand and leading him out of the office and down the hall to his shared bedroom with Julien.
We got to the room and I went and ushered Jasper to his bed. He got in and I tucked him in as any good parent would do, in my mind trying to make up for the fact that I took him and his brother away from their two biological parents.
"Goodnight, Jasper," I said as I walked out of the room and shut the door so I could go to my room where my new mate is awaiting me.
