The CEO'S Contract Wife
CHAPTER 1: THE DEAL Ngozi never believed her father would sell her like property. But there she was, in a glass office in Victoria Island, Lagos, sitting across from a man who looked carved from stone. Chike Obi. 30 years old. CEO of Obi Holdings. Billionaire. Cold eyes. And her husband-to-be... for 1 year. "1 billion naira," Chike said, sliding a contract across the table. "To save your father's company. And to save my family’s reputation. Marriage for 12 months. No love. No touching. Just business." Ngozi’s hands shook. Her father’s debt was 900 million. If she said no, the bank would take their house tomorrow. She picked up the pen. "I agree," she whispered. "But on one condition." Chike raised an eyebrow. "What?" "You don’t get to control me. I’m not your doll." A small smirk touched his lips for the first time. "Deal, Mrs. Obi." That night, Ngozi moved into a 20-bedroom mansion with a stranger. The rules were clear. Rule 1: Appear together at events. Rule 2: Sleep in separate rooms. Rule 3: No feelings. But on night 3, there was a thunderstorm. And a scream from Ngozi’s room. Chike broke rule 2. To be continued... CHAPTER 2: Thunder And Secrets The power went out at exactly 11:47pm. Ngozi jolted awake to thunder cracking the sky. Port Harcourt rain was bad, but Lagos rain was worse. It sounded like the whole mansion was going to collapse. Then she heard it. Footsteps. Not hers. She sat up in the big guest room, heart pounding. The contract said separate rooms. The contract said no contact. But the footsteps stopped at her door. A knock. Soft. "Ngozi?" Chike's voice. Low. Uncertain. She opened the door. He stood there in a black shirt, sleeves rolled up, hair damp like he’d been standing by the window watching the storm. "The generator’s acting up," he said. "And... you screamed." "I didn’t scream," she lied. Her voice shook. She had. Nightmares about her father’s creditors. Chike didn’t push. He just looked past her at the dark room, then back at her. "Do you want me to stay in the hallway? Until the power comes back." It wasn’t an order. It was a question. That threw her off more than anything. "Fine," she muttered. "But don’t come in." He sat on the floor outside her door, back against the wall. Like a guard. For 2 hours they didn’t talk. Just the sound of rain and thunder between them. Then the lights flickered back on. Ngozi peeked out. He was asleep, head tilted, looking younger without the CEO mask. Her chest did something weird. Rule 2 broken. Rule 3... in danger. The next morning, breakfast was silent. Until Chike’s phone rang. His mother. "Chike, we’re coming for dinner tonight. To meet your wife." His eyes met Ngozi’s across the table. Cold again. CEO mode back. "Be ready by 7pm," he said. "And Ngozi... smile. CHAPTER 3: THE DINNER FROM HELL 7pm. Ngozi stood in front of the mirror in a gold dress she didn’t buy. Chike’s stylist sent it. "For the performance," the note said. Downstairs, 3 cars pulled in. Mrs. Obi. Tall. Pearls. Eyes that could cut glass. Mr. Obi. Quiet, but he missed nothing. And Chike’s younger sister, Tola. 19. t****k mouth. "So this is her," Mrs. Obi said, looking Ngozi up and down. "The girl whose father is bankrupt." Ngozi smiled. Contract rule 1: Appear together. "Good evening Ma. It’s nice to meet you." Dinner was war with cutlery. *Round 1: The Job Question* "And what do you do, dear?" Mr. Obi asked. "I’m a graphic designer," Ngozi said. "Freelance." Mrs. Obi: "Hmm. Not a banker. Interesting choice for a billionaire’s wife." Chike didn’t defend her. He just cut his steak. *Round 2: The Love Question* Tola leaned forward. "So... how did you guys meet? Love at first sight?" Silence. Chike: "We met through family friends." Ngozi’s heart sank. Lie. *Round 3: The Trap* Mrs. Obi set her wine down. "We were hoping for grandchildren soon. A year is enough time, right?" Ngozi almost choked. Chike finally looked up. "Mom. Don’t." "Don’t what? I’m just excited for my son." After dinner, Ngozi escaped to the garden. Her hands were shaking. Footsteps behind her. "You did well," Chike said. "Did I? Felt like I was being sold twice." He stopped. For the first time, the CEO mask cracked. "My mother is... a lot. I’m sorry." "Don’t be sorry. Be honest with me next time." He nodded. Then, softer: "You looked beautiful tonight. The gold suits you." Ngozi turned. Rain had started again. Neither of them moved. Rule 3 was hanging by a thread. Inside, Tola was filming the garden from the window. Caption: `My brother’s wife 👀 #ObiWedding CHAPTER 4: THE ALMOST KISS The rain didn’t stop. It got heavier. Ngozi was still in the garden, arms folded. Chike hadn’t left. "You should go in," he said. "You’ll catch a cold." "And you care because...?" She didn’t look at him. Lightning flashed. The whole mansion went dark. Again. The generator coughed, then died. "Generator’s flooded," Chike muttered. "Come inside. Now." They ran. But the back door was stuck. Swollen from the rain. Trapped. Just them, under the small garden gazebo. Water dripping everywhere. His suit jacket was soaked. Her gold dress was clinging to her. Silence. Only rain and their breathing. "Why did you agree to this?" Chike asked suddenly. Ngozi laughed, bitter. "My father was going to lose everything. What choice did I have?" "Same," he said. "My grandfather’s last wish. ‘Marry and settle down, or I cut you from the will.’" So it was all a lie. Both of them. Trapped in a contract, and now... trapped in the rain. Ngozi shivered. Without thinking, Chike took off his jacket and draped it over her shoulders. It smelled like his cologne. Expensive. Safe. "Thank you," she whispered. He looked at her. Really looked. Wet hair. Angry eyes. But not scared anymore. Rule 3: No feelings. His hand moved. Brushed a wet strand of hair from her face. Ngozi’s breath caught. He was leaning in. Slow. Giving her time to pull away. She didn’t. Their lips were an inch apart when— *CRASH* A tree branch fell nearby. They jumped back like they’d been burned. Footsteps. Tola’s voice from the door: "Hello?? Is anyone out here??" Chike cleared his throat. CEO mode back in 0.2 seconds. "We’re fine," he called. "Door’s stuck." Inside, Ngozi ran to her room. Heart pounding. She pressed her back to the door. She almost kissed her contract husband. And worse... she wanted to. Down the hall, Chike stared at his own door. Rule 2 broken. Rule 3... almost broken. This was supposed to be business. CHAPTER 5: THE VIDEO LEAKS 7:03am. Ngozi woke up to 47 missed calls. All from her best friend, Amara. The first text: `Babe... are you okay???` The second: `IS THAT YOU AND CHIKE OBI???` The third: A t****k link. Ngozi clicked. It was 8 seconds. Dark. Rain. Her, in the gold dress with Chike’s jacket on her shoulders. His hand reaching for her hair. Their faces inches apart. Then _CRASH_ and the video cuts. Caption: `POV: My billionaire brother and his wife during the storm last night 👀 Ngozi’s stomach dropped. Downstairs, Chike was already on a call. "Take it down. Now, Tola." His voice was ice. "I didn’t do anything wrong!" Tola yelled. "People love you guys!" "This isn’t a game." He hung up and saw Ngozi. His face softened for half a second, then went hard again. "Did you see it?" Ngozi nodded. "Your sister posted us." "We need to do damage control. Press statement. Say it was a misunderstanding." "A lie," Ngozi said quietly. "Like everything else." Chike flinched. "This was supposed to be private." "Nothing is private with you Obis," she snapped. "Not my life, not my marriage, not even a storm." She turned to go upstairs. Chike grabbed her wrist. Gently. "Ngozi. I’m sorry." She looked at his hand on her, then at his face. For the first time since the contract, he looked... scared. Not of his mom. Of her leaving. "Don’t touch me," she whispered. But she didn’t pull away. His phone buzzed again. Unknown number. Text: `Mr. Obi, we saw the video. The board wants to meet. Today. 2pm.` Chike closed his eyes. "The board thinks the marriage is fake. This video makes it look real. Or it makes it look like a PR stunt." Ngozi pulled her hand back. "So what do we do, Mr. Obi?" He met her eyes. "We sell it. We go to that meeting... together. And we act like husband and wife." Rule 1: Appear together. But this time, the whole world would be watching.
