EPISODE 3
The auditorium was filled with applause, but Eve barely heard it.
She stood among hundreds of graduates, dressed in a black gown that felt heavier than it should have, the cap resting neatly on her dark hair. Her forest-green eyes shimmered, not with excitement alone, but with memories—painful ones she had carried quietly for years.
This moment was never supposed to happen.
There were nights she had cried herself to sleep on a thin mattress in her small apartment. Nights when she questioned why life had taken so much from her—her mother, her sense of belonging, the man she once trusted with her heart. There were days she went to lectures hungry, exhausted from café shifts, fingers shaking as she typed code until sunrise.
And yet… she was here.
A tech engineering graduate.
Nick sat two rows behind her, already sniffling dramatically. “If I cry, mind your business,” he whispered loudly, earning a glare from Nicki.
Nicki, on the other hand, held her phone up, recording everything. Her eyes softened as she looked at Eve’s back. “She really did it,” she murmured. “She survived.”
When Eve’s name was called, the world slowed.
“Evelyn Carter.”
She stood, legs trembling, heart pounding so loudly it drowned out the cheers. Each step toward the stage felt like walking through every version of herself—the broken girl left behind by her fiancé, the lonely student in a strange city, the woman who refused to quit even when life tried to crush her.
She shook the dean’s hand.
The certificate felt warm in her fingers.
Real.
Tears blurred her vision.
As she turned to face the audience, her gaze landed on Nick and Nicki. Nick was openly crying now, wiping his face with his sleeve. Nicki gave her a sharp nod—the kind that said I’m proud of you, but don’t you dare break down yet.
Eve smiled through tears.
Later, outside the hall, laughter mixed with celebration. Families hugged. Cameras flashed. Eve stood slightly apart, holding her certificate against her chest like it might disappear if she let go.
Nick wrapped her in a tight hug. “You’re officially a genius now. I’m so proud I could scream.”
Nicki joined them, gripping Eve’s shoulders firmly. “No one handed you this. You earned every damn line on that paper.”
That was when Eve broke.
Tears slipped down her cheeks, silent and heavy. “I didn’t think I’d make it,” she admitted softly. “There were days I wanted to quit. Days I felt… unwanted. Like I was proving something to a world that never chose me.”
Nicki’s voice dropped, fierce and certain. “The world doesn’t get to choose you. You choose yourself.”
That night, back in her apartment, Eve placed her graduation certificate carefully on the desk. She stared at it for a long time, fingers trembling—not from fear, but from disbelief.
She had done this alone.
Opening her laptop, she pulled up a single application she had saved for months but never dared to submit.
OrionTech.
Her cursor hovered.
She thought of Daniel’s betrayal.
Her stepsister’s smirk.
Every moment she had been underestimated.
Then she clicked Submit.
As the screen confirmed her application, Eve leaned back, tears slipping freely now—not of pain, but of release.
“This is for me,” she whispered into the quiet room. “Whatever happens next… I earned my place.”
Outside, the city lights flickered like distant stars.
Eve didn’t know that this single click would lead her to a man who would challenge her vows, awaken buried truths, and pull her straight into a destiny woven long before her birth.
But for the first time in a long while—
She felt proud.
