CREST POV 'I want to see mate, princess,' my wolf whined and urged me to go look for our mate. She is upset with him for not acknowledging us, but she wants this to be talked over. More likely because she likes his wolf already. She wanted us to mate and mark each other so that her long-awaited mate would be hers for a lifetime. She waited for this to happen so many years ago. Unluckily for her the goddess gave her to a human like me who didn't want one. I may like to have one now but, I still have to decide and think this through. Unlike me, I don't want to be a fool around him. He might see me as a love-sick puppy if I'm the one who'll chase after him. No way!I have my own pride. I'll wait until he approaches us first. Besides, based on the rumors about him, I might have a second thought about our mate thing. 'Don't tell me that you are going to reject our mate just because of those rumors? You're better than that, Crest. Don't believe it unless you see it for yourself. ' "What are you doing here, sweetie? Did you eat lunch?" I turned back to face my father, who was wearing a puzzled frown. Is he all right? "Ah, I'm not that hungry, dad," I said with a smile. "Is that so? Well. Um, we need to speak about something, Crest," judging by the look on his face, the topic might be not that nice. I hopped lazily towards him as he sighed and got closer to me. He cradled my face with one hand and rubbed the top of my head with the other. "I can't believe how quickly time passes; one day you were wearing a diaper, and the next day you met your mate." "You're simply growing old, daddy," I said as I hugged him. As we left, he joked, "I may be old, love, but I can still captivate many ladies and fulfill their pleasure." "Yeah.Yeah. If you say so," I giggled a little. "Believe me, sweetie; if you need evidence, ask your mother about my performance last ni-" "OK!" I cut in. "Forget I ever brought this up with you; gross!" I shook my head as he chuckled. But his expression quickly changed to a more solemn one before he said, "Anyway, honey. I had a conversation with Hunter. Can we take a minute?" We sat in the seats, and I focused my attention entirely on him. He disclosed everything about their conversation and Hunter's opinion about me. He also stated that his pack comes first before his mate, thus I must meet his standards. I grimaced as I attempted to take it all in. I was overcome by a slew of feelings. Hatred is dominating. I can't believe he was different among all the Alphas I've met. They mostly became possessive and protective. They immediately claimed what was theirs, but with him, it was a different situation. "I'm sorry, honey; I know it's difficult for you, but I can't make him accept you if he has his own pride." "It's fine, dad. I'm fine with it. I don't want to chase after him anyway. If he wants me, he'll come for me." After receiving the news, my wolf became unhappy and saddened, and she began to curl in the darkest reaches of my mind and protect herself with her tail. 'Hey, are you all right?' I attempted to communicate with her in order to lift her spirits. 'I'm okay. You're right; we shouldn't try to chase after him; if he wants us, he'll come after us.' 'Don't worry, I'm not going to let you down. We'll find another if he rejects us. Besides, we still have plenty of time to prove ourselves to him; perhaps by the time he arrives, he'll alter his mind? ' 'What if he doesn't like what he'll see?' 'We'll move on. We're okay without him before this mate thing, so we'll be fine after too.' I felt sorry for her as she whimpered over that notion. She had a strong bond with Hunter's wolf, unlike me and Hunter, but I can't help her now because we're both broken. "Crest. Dad." We turned as my younger brother approached us. "Are you two all right? We need to start the celebration," Simon said. Oh. Right. I had almost forgotten. One of my friends was also mated this morning, and the guy wanted to propose to her, so I planned a surprise engagement party for them. "Yeah," I said, smiling and leaping towards him. Before leaving the kitchen, I smiled at my father. "Come on, we had a lot to do," I say, taking my brother's hand in mine and waving to my father. He gave us a soft grin as he gently rose up and accompanied us outdoors. We made our way to the huge open rear yard where numerous pack members had gathered. Some are already busy cooking dishes, while others have built a small campfire in the midst of the space. "Boys, no drinks tonight!" My father told several warriors who were ready to set up some space for some beers. "Okay, Alpha." They nodded their heads as they headed back to the shop. "How can we have fun if there are no beers?" my brother said, giving my father a sly look. "Hmm.? What's that, son?" Dad clasps his hands around his waist and gives Simon a death stare. "Nothing, dad. Oh, yes, I forgot I needed to set up the flags."Simon raced out, and I chuckled. My father gently shook his head and said to himself, "I can't afford to lose again because of some people who are drunk enough to guard the place." I simply agreed with a faint murmur. Back when my father was still in his youth. They primarily consume beers and other alcoholic beverages, until one night at a full-moon party, most of the warriors had consumed enough alcohol to pass out. Our community was attacked by an enemy, and nearly half of our pack members died that night. From then on, my father decided to prohibit the consumption of alcoholic beverages at large gatherings. Some people drink, but not all. That's okay with me because I don't enjoy the taste of it in the first place. The aftertaste, in particular. Especially the after smell. --- HUNTER POV I stood on a corner post, watching Crest pour out here and there. She appeared to be preoccupied with setting up some tables and chairs, flags, and instructing some pack members to set up the food arrangement. 'I assume she hasn't picked up on our presence yet,' my wolf grumbled. I agreed with a hum. I'm sure she'll be nervous if she sees us, but I assume she was distracted by a lot of stuff. 'We should go with her. Help her!' My wolf growled at me. 'We're not going to approach her; remember, we need to study her first.' 'Stupid human concepts. Mates are mates! ' He growled. I rolled my eyes at him and attempted to shift my gaze to other pack members, but I couldn't keep my gaze away from her. 'Mate is lovely. So sexy. Mate with her! 'He snarled again, and I'm becoming irritated. He truly doesn't grasp my logic and is instead being the obnoxious wolf that he is. 'Oh. Accept it! Mate is both attractive and delicious. What if wolves start ogling at her? 'Mark and claim her immediately, before something unsuitable happens.' I merely tried to ignore my wolf and keep my cool, but he's right: if someone tries to flirt with her, I won't be able to control myself. She is stunning, and there is no question that she will entice male wolves. It's difficult to be an alpha, especially in these times, because being an alpha has a wolf side that may be overprotective. It is true that most alphas are possessive and protective of their mates, especially those who have waited a long time to find their mate. I know I'll have one regardless of the circumstances, but I can't commit to a relationship just now because I don't know much about her nature. When it comes to getting into a relationship, I believe that personality comes first. Furthermore, having an intimate relationship isn't merely for the purpose of having a relationship.' It is a lifelong commitment that should be treasured. A lifetime commitment worth dying for. Someone that I could die for, I am willing to give my life to whoever meets my standards. I know my wolf is horny and bothersome; all he wants is to mate, but as a part human, I want to give my partner the entire experience. Court her, get to know her more, and help her grow. If she meets my expectations, I'll commit, but if she doesn't, I'll have to build her up. I know I said I wouldn't accept her right now, but I didn't say I'd reject her. She's powerful and gorgeous, yet something in her tells me she's hiding something. I'd like to get to know her better. I'll adore her every day once I get to know her. Make her feel my affection every time she wakes up in the morning. If she wants, I'll worship her. For the time being, I needed to concentrate on my goals: pack first, then her, and everything else would fall into place.
