I rushed up to my room to ready myself for a day of shopping. Farrah had made this into a huge ordeal. It was scorching outside with the heat on high as summer rolled through. Seeing how I dressed represented how I was brought up. I picked out a cute tennis skort, the material was lightweight keeping me cool, the matching polo was made of the same material, and the colors were white and lilac. With some ankle socks and matching tennis shoes. I put my hair up in a Dutch braid keeping it off my neck. 'Hmm, maybe I'll get a haircut while at the mall?' I thought to myself.
I hurried down the stairs to the main hall. I was first waiting a full twenty minutes before the men appeared, which meant now we were waiting on Princess Farrah. I sighed loudly after we had been waiting a full forty-five minutes and she was still getting ready. I looked towards the twins with my furry sparking around me. "This is why I wanted to just take the car and not make it a big deal," I growled in anger. I wanted a simple quick trip to the grocers and back home, none of this nonsense and pageantry. The twins looked at me dumbfounded that I was upset, and Oliver was relaxing in a chair not minding the wait. I paced back a fourth a bit more as time slowly moved by waiting for Farrah to grace us with her presence.
An hour and thirty minutes later, it was now roughly two, thirty-ish when the four of us heard movement but it was just another pack member making her way downstairs. She stopped and stared at the four of us who gathered by the stairs. "Oh! Where are you expecting Farrah?" she smiled and laughed. Julie was older than the twins by six years. She was one of the first female she-wolves in our pack to turn down her fated and go to college and get her degree. She was my role model. "We've been waiting forever," I complained loudly like a child would. She smiled with her eyes crinkling. "Well, I heard you at brunch you wanted to hit the grocers. I'm on my way into town for some errands if you want to join me?" she asks. I looked at her like she was a beacon in the dark. "Really! You wouldn't mind?" "Well, if the guys don't mind." She looked at them suspiciously.
Oliver, who had fallen asleep in his chair, grumbled something and then went back to his snoring slumber. The twins seemed to have wandered away when they realized it wasn't Farrah at the stairs. I looked around to whom she was speaking, and we both laughed softly together. "Well, I guess it's just you and me then. Let's go and we'll take the convertible since it's lovely out." Julie had insisted we her cyan and black 911 Porche speedster out. The drive to town was nice and Julie had great taste in music. We were both relaxing in Margaritaville on XM radio. Julie had short auburn hair and glasses; she reminded me of Velma from Scooby Doo. We discussed what I wanted in my future and where I wanted to go to college. It was nice having someone ask what I wanted for myself.
We drove up our town's main street, with its traditional cobblestones and old brick buildings. She parked her car right in front of the diner. "Meet back in an hour here and we'll grab something to eat yeah?" she said smiling as she was already out of the car and headed on her way. "Sure thing! Catch ya later!" I called after her, but she only waved back. I had contemplated shaving my head because it was summer, and it was unbearable to be this hot. I had my shoulder satch with me because I am not a purse person, nor will I ever be.
When I spoke to Julie about getting my hair done, she suggested a great place that matched exactly what I was looking for. The shop had a charming, old-fashioned barber atmosphere that I really appreciated. Upon arrival, I asked for Gregory, and I was not disappointed. Gregory was a stunning man who exuded confidence and charm. He was so in love with his own appearance that it reminded me of Gaston from Beauty and the Beast, admiring himself in the mirror. Despite his vanity, Gregory was very skilled at his job and made sure to give me the perfect haircut I was hoping for.
With his thick French accent, he leaned in and whispered, "You, my love, will be a fantastic beast. Your presence will command attention, and men will fawn over you and become obsessed with you. You will be the sun, and they shall orbit around you." I couldn't help but feel a surge of confidence in his words. His skilled hands had given me a new haircut - a short, layered pixie cut that perfectly framed my face. But it was the silver marble effect that caught my eye. He had expertly blended vibrant colors together, giving my hair a stunning prism-like effect that shifted and shone in the light. As I looked at myself in the mirror, I felt as though I had been transformed into a mythical creature, ready to conquer the world with my newfound beauty and confidence.
I paid Gregory and promised I would be back before school started for a more proper hairstyle for my senior year. As I headed out my phone was blowing up. Twelve missed calls, and multiple texts from multiple numbers. I had my phone in my bag per Gregory's request. The phone rang again, and I answered it on the first ring. "Hello?" I answered it so fast I didn't even see who was calling me.
"WHERE ARE YOU?" was a growl, I knew exactly who it was from. "I'm in town, why?" I answered, trying not to double over laughing in the middle of the sidewalk as I headed to the grocers. "Why? We were supposed to go to the mall together?" A new voice had stolen the phone, "Well, Farrah took too long, and Julie offered to go so I went with her. Um, besides I don't want to ruin the surprise celebration for my party. If I went to the mall with you all I would have seen it and then it wouldn't have been much of a surprise." I responded. I was guessing I was on speaker cause the voices on the other end seemed to agree with me that it wasn't a bright idea to bring the birthday girl to the mall to buy her own birthday supplies. I heard a huff of disappointment from one of them. " I'm headed to the grocers now then I'm meeting Julie back at the town's diner for dinner," I added in case they did want to meet up. I hung up and didn't even care I didn't say goodbye.
I had just arrived at the grocery store, and as I was walking towards the entrance, I saw a pink SUV pull up and park, followed by a sturdy and more suitable 4-runner. It was Farrah's pink SUV, and I wasn't surprised by it as I knew she had a thing for pink. However, I had envisioned Oliver with a rugged off-roading jeep or loaded Ram truck instead of the 4-runner. The four of them looked like they were part of a goon squad with their matching shades and ridiculous suits. In fact, it wouldn't have surprised me if a famous rapper jumped out of the car and started making a music video with them in it.
I couldn't help but wonder if they would recognize me with my new look. I had put in extra effort to look good today, but none of them even bothered to glance at my outfit before I left the house. Gregory had even taken it upon himself to spray me with his perfume, claiming it was "intoxicating for the male species."
