Chapter 1
"You look so beautiful" he said as he gazed into my eyes lovingly. I could feel my heart beating in my ears with excitement.
His hands on my waist and his fingers drawing mindless circles sent shivers down my spine.
Through hooded eyes I look at him, my attention drawn to his glistening red swollen lips that had so mercilessly kissed mine with a passion. I knew my lips looked exactly like his.
"I can't wait to claim you for all to see. You were made for me Gail" he murmured in between the kisses he feathered all over my face, trailing all the way down my neck.
He found a sweet spot behind my ear as he sucked on it, I literally saw stars.
"Soon we would meet and I would show you to the whole world, that you are mine" he broke the kiss to look at my face as he said those words.
I open my eyes and I'm knocked breathless by the intensity of desire I see burning in his eyes. Lust. Desire. Passion. Possession. Love. Love. And more Love.
His mouth opened to say more…
"Abigail!!!"
"Abigail!!!"
"Abigail get up from bed it's your day"
I'm startled awake by the voice of my mother as she screams for me from downstairs and in my confusion I got all tangled up in my sheets and hence why I have found myself on the floor.
"I'm up!"
"I'm up mom!!" I quickly called back to her. I knew if I didn't she'd come bursting through the door and I didn't have the strength for one of her scolding this morning of how I needed to act more like an example for the rest of the pack.
Apparently it wasn't a good look for the Alpha's only child to be a sleepyhead.
"Finally you're up. I thought you vanished into thin air…" my mom says as she stands at the door "Abigail Marie Broadwater what are you doing on the floor"
I looked up to see the shock on her face as I laid on the floor in a heap of my sheets, duvet and some pillows.
"All you had to state was you preferred the floor to your bed and it would be arranged" she said in disbelief.
"Mom I fell, there's no need for the drama" I saw as I roll my eyes tiredly
"And how do you suppose to explain how you "fell" young lady?" She said with her hands on her hips
Good question
"You know what? I don't think I want to know. Hurry up and get downstairs " she says as she leaves the room
"I love you too mom" I shout after her. I could hear her chuckle under her breath as she went downstairs. What can I say? Werewolf perks.
I managed to pick myself up from the floor and tidied up my bed.
I don't get how people leave their bed in the morning, unmade. And the excuse, "I'll still get back in bed and it will remain the same".
Personally I can't imagine it. I'm not OCD, however, making your bed first thing in the morning helps put you in a creative vibe for the rest of the day
I go to the bathroom to freshen up and I'm shocked by what I see in my mirror as I get to the bathroom.
A horror movie.
I look like I got hit by a truck, no wonder my mom looked so surprised.
Today happens to be my birthday. I'll be turning 20 today.
Since I turned 16 I have remained at 5'5ft. I have a small petite curvy frame. Straight as spaghetti strawberry blonde hair. Hazel eyes. Pale skin, which people try to make me feel good by saying it's porcelain. I call bullshit,I know I'm deathly pale,no matter how long I stay in the sun I never tan, rather I burn.
I have always been insecure about my body. And so I never pay attention to it, hence the baggy sweatpants and hoodie I have on. I don't think I would ever be confident about myself.
And also the fact that I still haven't found a mate. I should have found a mate when I turned 16, it's been four years now and no signs of him.
Only in my dream at least. Speaking of which had me remember last night's dream and I watch myself turn crimson red with embarrassment.
I quickly get into the shower and try to scrub away the memories of my dream and my disappointment of only being mated in my dream.
By the time I'm out of the shower I'm red like a tomato and I feel very satisfied by my handiwork.
I go through my wardrobe and pick up some random light washed blue jean trousers and a brown hoodie with a sport's bra underneath. I put my hair in a bun and quickly slip on my converse.
I rush downstairs as I perceive the delectable smell of bacon and eggs and pancakes.
You know, maybe today won't be so bad.
I nearly broke my neck running down the stairs.
"One of these days she'd give herself a concussion and I won't be surprised" I hear my mom tell my dad
He's in the kitchen flipping through some newspaper while he laughed at what my mom said. He looks up as I walk into the kitchen and smiles at me.
"My angel won't hurt herself. At least not while I'm here" he says as he wraps me into a bear hug.
What can I say, I'm a daddy's girl.
I return the hug as I inhale his scent that has helped calm me down over the years. My father really has been my pillar.
He's a big guy. A bear of a guy if you'd like to be more accurate. Standing at 6'3ft with a burly looking face thick with beards and piercing hazel eyes, I wish I took his hair. A coily mop of black hair that fell to his shoulder.
Apparently my mom had mentioned her pleasure for long hair in passing when they had met and since then he kept it at that length.
What love does to a man.
"I know Dad. You'll be right there to save me" I said with a smile
"You bet I would" he says lovingly as he kisses my forehead
"Wow, what's that amazing smell" I say as I move closer to my mom and place a kiss on her cheek as I hug her from behind.
My mom smelt like cinnamon and chocolate. But I promise you she can be spicy when she needs to be, a proper woman is what I call her.
Somehow she always looks put together and clean, even on days we had gone to the beach when I was little. She's honestly one of the wonders of the world.
Standing at the same height as me, except she always has a pair of heels or wedges on so you'd hardly notice, stormy blue eyes and strawberry blonde hair that were always in a perfect curl.
"Sit down young lady" my mom replies "it's your big day and you need to be treated like the princess you are" she turns to give me a kiss.
"I can't believe you're all grown. My baby is not a baby anymore" she says as she stares at me fondly
"Hey mom, I'm always your baby. You don't have to cry" I quickly try to reassure her as her eyes start to water
"Honey you don't want to start this morning on a tearful note do you?" My dad pulls my mom into a hug as tries to comfort her.
He places a kiss on her temple and you could see her visibly melt in his arms. Okay that stings a bit. I want this too.
"I won't be okay. I won't" my mom says wiping her eyes "Okay now both of you. To your seats" she shushes us away
The dining table has already been set and soon I'm digging into my breakfast. The first bite of pancakes literally melted in my mouth. Chocolate pancakes. My absolute favorite. With some extra drizzle of more chocolate. My mom really knows me.
I'm so lost in my food I don't realize my parents calling me
"Baby are you here with us?" My dad laughs as he ask
I turn to face him shyly and I won't be surprised if I had food all over my face.
"Yeah. Yeah I am" I quickly take a glass of orange juice so I don't choke on my food.
My mom just sighs and shakes her head.
"We were asking if you had spoken with Rebecca?"
"Oh yeah we spoke yesterday. She's really upset she would be missing my birthday. Apparently it would be breaking the streak she had kept for over 17 years" my best friend Rebecca really is dramatic
"Remember that time she was down with the wereflu and somehow managed to escape her house just to wish you a happy birthday and then you both fell sick" my mom says she fondly reminisces on when I was 7 and Rebecca wouldn't let anyone come in the way of her tradition.
She really can be persuasive when she wants to be.
We all laugh about it. Breakfast was spent talking about all the mischiefs Rebecca had gotten us both into. Somewhere down the line she became known as Rebel, which is a very fitting name for her.
There's a saying in the pack now "When you see red locks, the rebel lurks". Rebecca wouldn't let anyone try to put her down or belittle her or make fun of her especially of her red hair.
I love her with my life, however I can't help but envy her. She was the pack's star child and me, I was just plain Abigail.
We had met in kindergarten, during playtime I was getting picked on by some kids for wearing my thick rimmed glasses and also how pale I was. I was called ghosty.
Some kid thought it would be fun to take off my glasses and refuse to give it to me, apparently I didn't need it. Wow, who would have thought?
For one, I couldn't see anything so I didn't know what had gone down. All I knew was one minute I was being bullied and the next thing I'm hearing kids crying and soon I could see and none of my bullies were in sight and the first thing I noticed was a thick curly mop of red hair. I thought it was a lion's mane to be honest.
"Hi, my name is Rebecca. Do you wanna be my friend?" I heard a high pitched voice say to me with outstretched hand
"Hi my name is Abigail" I had replied shyly as I took her hand
And since then she never left my side. That's my Rebecca. My best friend.
Right now she's part of the pack's ambassadorial entourage on a conference, which is a big deal since few females were allowed since it was very demanding and male dominated.
Rebecca started out from being a pack warrior to now one of the most respected females in our pack. You wouldn't believe it if you saw her because somehow she manages to look prim and proper, never breaking a sweat or a nail while doing her job.
"Honey what's wrong" I'm broken away from my inner thoughts by the voice of my mom deep with worry as she reaches over touching my dad's hand on the table.
My dad had a worried look on his face and his eyes glazed over, which was a sign of a mind link.
As the Alpha it gets really difficult for him to have time for his family although he tries, pack duty is very important to him.
He takes a deep breath and looks down with concern marring his face, I admit, I'm also worried. My dad doesn't get shaken up very easily, so this must be important.
"The king has announced his arrival to our pack by eve" he says looking up to my mom
My eyes widen in surprise at the same time I hear my mom gasp
"What do you mean the king? Why would he want to visit our pack?" I could feel the anxiety thick in my mom's voice.
"I have no idea what he wants with us, but I can tell you it's no good" he says with a deep sigh
"Why today? Why did he have to come today? On our child's special day " my mom says exasperatedly
"I guess he wants to wish her a happy birthday " my dad jokes
"Caleb this is not the time" my mom says pointedly at my dad
"I'm sorry my love" he says as he kisses her hand "I guess we have to prepare for his majesty's arrival "
"First we spend this wonderful morning together, then you can go ahead with your Alpha duties" my mom says firmly
"Alright my love. You win" he says with his hands up in an 'i surrender ' manner
"Good" she replies to him "Baby don't worry about anything, it's still your special day" my mom says to me
"Sure mom" I smile weakly as I take another bite of my food
My wolf seems to be a little on edge since the mention of the king. I guess she's responding instinctively to the authority he has.
I'm done with my breakfast and stand to take my plates to the kitchen before I'm stopped by my mom
"Abby, for the love of everything good and precious, please don't get lost and forget the time in the forest and put on a gown when we welcome the king"
Geez mom, no need to lay it on thick how much of a social weirdo I am
"I will remember that " I mumble before I leave
Soon I'm out the backdoor and heading straight to the woods, it's a good thing I can get easy access to the wood from my house. Ever since I can remember, I'd always preferred being out in the forest than anywhere else.
My dad says it's the primitive yearning of our wolves to be in their natural habitat.
My mom says it's primitive.
I say it's just comfortable, I just love it.
My mind is still restless from the announcement of the king coming to our land, especially unannounced, which is unheard of.
However, since he's the king we can't go against him.
It's not everybody that goes against a lycan that lives to tell the story. Actually nobody has ever lived to tell the story.
I soon come upon a tree and I sit under its shade. After a while of trying to find a comfortable spot,I close my eyes as I enjoy the silence of the forest.
