Chapter 11 The auditorium was almost packed when Alan and I walked into it on Friday afternoon. I think almost half the school was there. There were very few empty seats. The room held several hundred people. “Good heavens,” I whispered to Alan. “I thought you said it was only a few conducting classes.” “It seems you’re a very popular lecturer.” We looked around the auditorium as I took a deep breath. “Ready?” When I nodded, he smiled at me, walked onstage, and stepped up to the microphone. “Welcome to the Guest Lecturer series,” he started. “I see from the number of you in the audience that you know what a special treat this will be. Shelby Flynn has been the conductor of the Oakwood Philharmonic for the past six years and has made it one of the premier regional symphony orchestras
