SHE WOKE UP TO THE men shouting “land!”
Dain shook her awake. “We’ve reached Narn!”
Akshara opened her eyes and shook her head from side to side to dispel her grogginess.
“Narn?”
“Not far now. When we get there, I’ll buy you a drink, because I think I owe you one,” Dain replied.
The sound of a bird shrieking caused them both to cover their ears. It was a deafening shriek, one that shook Akshara’s bones.
She leapt to her feet and looked into the sky while still covering her ears. The massive colorful bird that Akshara recognized as Tars’keli swooped down, grabbed one of the men from the deck of the ship, and dropped him into the ocean.
“Tars’keli!” Akshara shouted.
