Chapter 40
I paced the length of the corridor, turned, and paced back. I peeked into Granddad’s room in time to see the nurse remove the blood pressure cuff.
“Lean forward, Mr. Martin, I want to listen to your lungs.”
“Excuse me,” I whispered. “I’m just stepping out to the lobby. I have to make a phone call.”
“Are…are you calling Hyde?” Granddad asked. “Tell him to…to get his…his ass down here.”
“Actually, I’m going to call Beauchamp.”
“Good…good boy. And…and then call…call Hyde.”
“Yes, Granddad.” I’d have to, if only to tell him we weren’t engaged anymore.
The nurse shooed me out. “Now, a deep breath, Mr. Martin, and blow it out…”
