The Penguin Who Found Her Wings By, Jasmine Bustos
There once was a penguin who had big dreams. Her name was Harley, and more than anything in the world, she wanted to fly.
But there was one small problem…
Penguins cannot fly.
The first time Harley tried, she flapped her little wings as hard as she could — and fell straight into the snow.
The other penguins laughed.
Harley felt very small.
For a moment, she wanted to give up…
But she didn’t.
She tried again.
And again.
And again.
One day, her friend walked over and asked softly,
“Why do you keep trying to fly like a butterfly?”
Harley looked down as tears fell onto the snow.
“Because I want to feel the sky,” she whispered.
Her friend smiled gently.
“Maybe you’re not meant to fly like a butterfly,” they said.
“But that doesn’t mean you don’t have your own wings.”
Harley looked up.
“Maybe I can’t fly like a butterfly,” she said slowly,
“but I can still chase my dreams.”
So instead of trying to lift herself into the air, Harley did something brave.
She gathered the other penguins — even the ones who had laughed at her — and led them across the ice, past the sparkling ocean.
“Here,” Harley said with a smile, “we can all find our wings.”
And one by one, the penguins discovered what made them special — not because they could fly, but because they were already good enough.
Far beyond the icy sea, there were penguins of many colors.
Pink.
Blue.
Golden.
Lavender.
Harley was never strange.
She was simply a dreamer who learned that believing in yourself is the most powerful way to fly.
