Perfect Target

He leans down and whispers in my ear. "You seem nervous." I laugh it off. "I've never danced like this with a stranger before." I've never danced like this before with anyone, but that's not his business. "I feel honored. He's going to be very jealous." His eyes bore into mine. I couldn't look away from his unique eyes. They were so intimidating and so beautiful. It didn't matter though; all I could think about was my crush. "He's not really the jealous type. I'm not even sure why I thought this genius plan was plausible. It must be the alcohol." Enzo continues holding me close, which is unexpectedly comforting. "Things have a funny way of working out how they're meant to." I smile. "Hmm, very wise." "Can I ask you something darling?" He dips me, slowing down my response time. I nod. "Go for it." "Is your friend single?" I wink at V, which is returned with a side eye. "She is, but maybe you should bring that question up to her." His dance moves gain momentum. "What's her name." I click my tongue. "I will never tell." He keeps his eyes on her. "I'm going to ask for her number. If she doesn't give it to me, I'm going to track you down to get it." I shake my head. "She's extremely hard to get. I will tell you this though, she thrives off of effort and humor." Enzo looks grateful. "I appreciate the advice mate." "I think she got enough footage." I turn and walk away from him. Vanessa puts her phone down, looking up at me. "That was great! If that doesn't get his attention, I don't know what will!" I clap my hands together. "Thank you! Do I post it right now?" "Yeah, you for sure have to." I take a deep breath and post the video on my i********:. It doesn't feel as good as I pictured it would though. I feel dirty instead of powerful with the move. "I'll be right back; I have to pee." I announce to no one in particular. "I can join you." Vanessa looks at me skeptically. I dismiss her. "I'll just be a minute." She hesitantly agrees and I leave her and Enzo alone. I stumble my way to the restroom and reach for the door. "Woah, Rinnie what are you doing?" I search for the owner of the familiar voice. I find him attached to my arm, gently pulling me back. I look up to see a really good friend of mine, Grant. Grant is another member of our tightknit friend group of five. He calls me Rinnie because we met when we were really young, and at that time he couldn't pronounce my name. I shift my weight into him, the shots taking full effect. "Hey Grant, what are you doing here?" His light blue eyes glow in the darkness. "I'm supposed to meet with the twins. What are you doing here?" I scuff. I want to scream. I'm not prepared to face my crush with this much alcohol in my system. "I thought Aiden was on a date?" Saying his name burns my heart. Grant runs a hand through his dusty brown hair that was spiked up to one side in a way that suited him perfectly. "I think he's bringing her." I bite my lip to stop it from shaking. "I guess the date went well." He looks at my lips then back at my eyes. "Why were you about to go in the men's restroom and why do you look like you're about to cry? What's wrong?" "Men's restroom?" I turn to see that I was indeed outside the door with the little man symbol. I take a deep breath, clearing my emotions from my voice. "I got a little carried away with the shots." "You? You never drink!" His hands tightened around me when I turned to leave. I avoid looking at him. Grant is smart and I'm drunk enough to be figured out. "I know, this is why. I can't handle a shot, let alone three." I said, quoting Vanessa. "Do you want a ride home?" My legs wobble, I lean further into his hard chest. "You're supposed to meet the twins." He smirks. "It's no big deal, I'll tell them I can't make it." I try to move to look at him but I am unsteady and fall back into him. "You're such a good friend but don't you dare do that!" I can't read the look on his face, it's not one of the Grant looks I'm accustomed to. "Where is Vanessa? I'll take you to her." I finally stop leaning on him and stand up straight. "She's talking to our new friend, Enzo." Grant looks unimpressed. "Is that the guy you posted on i********:?" I tilt my head; shocked Grant had seen it already. "Yeah, that's him." He nods. "Is he the reason your drunk and about to cry?" "What? No! He's super nice and I'm not about to cry." He scuffs. "Tell that to your face." "I have to go find Vanessa; she's going to kill me for leaving her." I hug Grant. "Maybe I'll see you out there?" Grant hugs me back tightly. He always gives the best hugs. "Yeah, for sure." With that I go on my quest to find V. It's not hard, she's in the same place I left her, talking to Enzo. She looks relieved to see me. "You made it back." I infer from the look on Enzo's face that I just interrupted something. "Welcome back." Vanessa motions me to her. "Wanna go get a drink?" I am taken off guard that she wants me to drink after her lecture earlier, but I wasn't about to turn it down. "Absolutely." "I'm buying." Enzo comes up between us. Vanessa looks panicked. "That's very sweet, but my boyfriend is actually waiting up there for me." My eyes get wide. "Your who?" She gives me a warning glance that is only visible to me. "Yeah, I know I have some explaining to do. I should've told you about us earlier, but I was afraid of how you'd react." I pick up on the fact that Vanessa is lying to Enzo a little too late. I finally start to go with it. "Okay, you owe me a drink for that." We wave goodbye to Enzo and head to the bar. "Thanks." V says gratefully. "You don't like him?" "He's great don't get me wrong, but I can't date him." I cross my arms. "Why not?" Vanessa looks flustered, which isn't typical of the girl who has it all together. "I have feelings for somebody else." I jump up and down. "You're kidding? You never catch feelings! You have to tell me who!" She puts her hands on my shoulders to prevent me from jumping and drawing attention to us. "Okay, okay I'll tell you but you have to promise not to freak out." I nod eagerly. "I promise." "Grant." She says like the words sting coming out. "Yeah?" A deep voice comes from behind us, scaring both of us.
