Simplicity
As I'm walking home in the pouring rain.. I couldn't help but wonder, why me? Nothing will ever be the same again. I don't know if I'm capable of doing this.
I moved here with my parents about two years ago, and life's been a bit different. Why? I have one friend, and I don't socialize as much as I would like. My only friend is Luke, and we met when I first moved here by running into each other at the library in town. I will never forget that day. My necklace must've fallen off beforehand, and no matter how carefully I backtracked my steps, it was nowhere to be found. He offered to help me find it, then we spent that day together without even realizing it. He offered to make it up by buying dinner, to which I agreed not because I liked him, but because he seemed like a genuine person and I was starving. I don't blame him for what happened because we weren't paying attention to where we were going. Luke took me to the best ice cream shop in town for dessert, and we laughed a lot throughout our time together.
That was the first time in my life that I wasn't as lonely because I had a friend. Luke and I hung out at the library because he studies there, whereas I checked out books to read. Our friendship grew, and it felt so natural. If only others were as genuine as Luke, life wouldn't be so hard.
I invited Luke to come over and hang out a lot ever since. My parents treat Luke as family, and Luke's parents treats me well. It's as if the missing piece in our hearts has been filled. For me, it was a friendship that I yearned for, and for my parents, it was seeing their daughter spread her wings.
My parents claimed they were crazy and outgoing at my age and that I shouldn't be afraid to spread my wings. They said I can travel anywhere I want for the summer when I graduate. It'll be a summer getaway before college, which doesn't sound bad if you ask me. I love the trust my parents have in me and allow me to explore the world by myself. I love adventures, and I don't ask for much. I just want a simple life with a simple job that satisfies me.
One thing that crosses their minds from time to time is when I'll have a boyfriend. Have I ever had a boyfriend? Do I want one? The answer to both questions.. is no. No boyfriend equals no drama. It's that simple. I told my parents I'd like a pet and I'd be complete, which they have no objections, and that's a relief. I'm excited about senior year. I know it'll be a great year because I have plans. But little did I know that everything would take the biggest turn in my life, leaving me torn and hopeless.
