Alice’s POV
I knocked twice before entering Brian’s room. It felt better than the other day when I had sneaked in uninvited.
He was seated on his bed, completely absorbed in his phone, his thumbs moving in quiet urgency.
I walked in and sat beside him, the mattress dipping slightly under my weight. “So…” I started, trying to sound casual.
Since he didn’t even spare me a glance, I continued. “I think we should start going through the contract. The earlier we begin, the better it is for all of us.”
Finally, he lifted his gaze, eyes locking with mine. “I don’t like that you’re going out with Sam.”
I exhaled deeply, letting the air cool the sudden sting his words brought. I dropped my laptop behind me on the bed and crossed my arms. “Thank goodness you don’t get a say in it.”
