Chapter 1 — Dying in Betrayal
The rain was heavier than it should have been.
Cold, sharp, relentless—like the world itself had decided to erase her.
Ariana lay on the wet asphalt, her fingers trembling as she tried to reach forward. Her vision blurred, not just from the rain, but from something far worse.
Blood.
Warm, spreading too fast, mixing with the rainwater that washed everything into a pale red river.
Her breath came in broken gasps.
And somewhere far away… footsteps didn’t come.
No sirens.
No rescue.
No voice calling her name.
Just silence.
“D…amian…” she whispered, lips shaking.
Her voice disappeared into the storm.
She forced her eyes open wider, as if refusing to accept what was happening. Her phone was still in her hand—cracked screen, one missed call lighting up faintly before dying completely.
One last call.
From her husband.
Or what used to be her husband.
But he was not here.
Of course he wasn’t.
Ariana let out a weak laugh that turned into a cough. Blood stained her lips.
So this was how it ended.
Not in love.
Not in warmth.
But in betrayal so complete it felt almost planned.
And then—
She saw it.
A shadow standing under the streetlight.
A woman in a white coat, heels clicking softly against the wet ground.
Melissa.
Her stepsister.
Perfect makeup. Calm expression. No rush. No fear.
Like she was simply checking the weather.
Ariana’s pupils shook.
“You…” Ariana choked out. “You did this…”
Melissa tilted her head slightly, as if she was looking at something dirty on the ground.
“I told you,” she said softly. “You never deserved him.”
Ariana’s hands clenched against the ground.
“You killed me… for Damian?”
Melissa smiled.
That smile was the final knife.
“No,” she corrected gently. “I killed you because you existed.”
Ariana’s breath hitched.
Every memory flashed through her mind like broken glass.
The wedding she thought was love.
The husband who never looked at her the same way twice.
The whispers behind her back.
The stolen company shares.
The “accidental” humiliations.
And Damian…
Her husband.
The man she loved with everything she had.
The man who never once chose her when it mattered.
Ariana’s eyes stung, but no tears came anymore.
Rain filled that place instead.
“Where is he?” she whispered again, weaker now. “Where is Damian?”
Melissa crouched slowly, bringing her face closer.
“Oh…” she said, almost amused. “You still don’t understand.”
Ariana’s breathing slowed.
The world tilted.
Melissa’s voice became softer.
“He signed the transfer papers last week.”
Silence.
Even the rain seemed to pause.
Ariana blinked once.
“…What?”
Melissa’s eyes gleamed.
“Your shares. Your company. Your father’s legacy.” She leaned closer. “Everything is mine now.”
Ariana’s fingers dug into the ground until her nails broke.
“No…”
A broken whisper.
Melissa stood again, adjusting her coat.
“And Damian?” she added lightly. “He’s with me now.”
That was it.
That was the final blow.
Ariana’s heart didn’t just break.
It stopped understanding why it should keep beating.
She forced her head to turn slightly.
And then she saw it.
A black car parked not far away.
Inside it… a familiar silhouette.
A man sitting calmly.
Watching.
Not moving.
Not coming out.
Damian.
Even from a distance, she recognized him instantly.
The man she married.
The man she trusted.
The man she died for.
Their eyes didn’t meet.
Or maybe they did.
And he simply chose not to look away from Melissa instead.
Ariana’s lips parted.
But no sound came out.
So this… was her ending.
Not even worth saving.
Just… replaced.
The rain hit her face harder.
Her body grew colder.
Melissa’s voice faded into something distant, like an echo from another life.
“You should have stayed invisible, Ariana.”
Footsteps turned away.
Heels clicked.
The world started to blur.
Ariana tried to breathe again, but her lungs refused to obey.
Her fingers loosened slowly.
So this is what it feels like…
To be discarded.
Not hated.
Not loved.
Just erased.
Her eyes slowly lifted to the dark sky above.
No stars.
Only storm.
And in her final moment—
A thought appeared.
Small.
Strangely calm.
If I could go back…
I would never love him again.
Never trust him again.
Never be weak again.
The rain swallowed her last breath.
And the world went silent.
Somewhere beyond death…
There was no pain.
No rain.
No blood.
Only darkness.
Then—
A sound.
A heartbeat.
Loud.
Closer.
Faster.
Ariana’s eyes snapped open.
She gasped violently, sitting upright as air filled her lungs like she had just been pulled from underwater.
Her body was intact.
No wounds.
No rain.
No asphalt.
She froze.
The room was bright.
Warm.
Familiar.
Too familiar.
Her hands shook as she looked around.
The chandelier.
The silk curtains.
The expensive bedroom she used to call hers.
Her fingers slowly touched her face.
Soft skin.
No blood.
“No…” she whispered.
She stumbled out of bed, almost falling as she reached the mirror.
And what she saw made her stop breathing again.
A younger version of herself.
Unbroken.
Alive.
Before everything fell apart.
Before Damian destroyed her.
Before Melissa killed her.
Ariana’s lips trembled.
Her reflection stared back in silence.
And then—
A single truth settled into her mind like ice.
She had come back.
Back to the past.
Back before the engagement.
Before the marriage.
Before the betrayal.
Her fingers slowly curled into a fist.
The reflection in the mirror changed.
Fear disappeared.
Confusion disappeared.
Only something sharp remained.
Cold.
Focused.
Deadly calm.
Ariana whispered, almost like a vow:
“This time… I won’t die for you.”
And outside the window—
Thunder rolled again.
But this time…
she didn’t flinch.
