Megan White knows the weight of a secret. As the chief bridesmaid at a lavish destination wedding in Paris, she stands by the altar and watches her best friend, Amaryllis Winston, prepare to marry Raymond Wallace. To the world, Megan is the supportive "sister" of the bride; but underneath her calm mask is a turmoil of unexplainable emotions and a piercing pain she must conceal.

Two years ago, Megan and Raymond were inseparable—"best friends" who were so close that everyone assumed they were dating. She was his rock through family and financial crises, even as she lied about having a boyfriend to keep his heart at a distance. Raymond’s love for her was clear from the moment they met, yet Megan chose to stay in the shadows, eventually watching him slip away.

Now, amidst the ivory pearls and Swarovski crystals of a "fairytale" wedding, the silence between them is about to break. As Amaryllis joyfully recites her vows, Raymond stands motionless. Instead of saying "I do," he turns away from the bride and walks toward the one woman he never truly left behind.

In a story of sacrifice, hidden longing, and the ghosts of the past, Megan must finally face the truth, some connections are too loud to stay silent forever.

CHAPTER ONE
CHAPTER 1 There I was, watching Raymond Wallace waiting at the alter, about to tie the knot with my best friend "Amaryllis Winston". Everyone appeared to be happy with the union between them, "a match made in heaven", they say. I stood smiling, but only I knew what I was feeling, to be honest I didn't know what emotions I was experiencing. But I was the chief bridesmaid, and Amaryllis was my friend, she called me "Megan White" her sister and best friend, and as the sister to the bride, naturally it is expected of me to be happy. Although I was happy for her, I couldn't deny that there was a pain in my chest which I had to conceal, so Amaryllis won't be sad on her big day. It was a summer evening, like any other Saturday evening in September. The cool summer breeze was very refreshing to the skin. The 9th day of September, Amaryllis Winston and Raymond Wallace wedding or so everyone thought. Amaryllis had always wanted a wedding in Paris, so they decided a destination wedding. So, I was in Paris for a wedding, as exciting as it should be, I wasn't bubbly. "What is wrong with you!!!!!!!" I kept screaming at myself in my head, though I appeared to be calm and happy, it was a turmoil underneath the calm mask. Worst I didn't understand my emotions, but I refuse to let my emotions control me. The bride wasn't out, so I quickly went to my hotel bathroom, it was a pool side wedding in a hotel premises. One of the biggest hotels in Bastille, Paris "Mgallery hotel". Once in the bathroom I stood infront of the mirror to reassure myself to keep my emotions in check. After two minutes of convincing myself, the turmoil was lessened, it didn't disappear but it was in check, and I was sure I would make it to the end of the wedding without losing it. I touched up my makeup, yes I did my makeup myself , and no I'm not a professional makeup artist and I'm not a makeup fan. Left to me I won't even bother with makeup but Amaryllis had been going on about how I am her chief bridesmaid and need to doe myself up a little for the wedding, I promised her I would apply makeup but I would do it myself. All her effort to get me to agree to a professional makeup artist was to no avail. Since I like keeping to my promise, I did my makeup. It was light without the contact and lashes, but yeah I am a beauty. Leaving the room, my phone started vibrating, it was Amaryllis. I arrived her room, oh heavens! she had never been more pretty than she did. Ready for your big day?. I asked, smiling. I don't know, I feel like I'm going to regret my decision later, she said. Of course you are, I thought. I don't know why I thought that, but I just stared calmly at her. She continued lamenting, even suggesting not going through with the wedding, I kinda felt happy to hear that. I feigned sadness and reassured her that it's the best decision, they were already people waiting for her, for the blissful joining and union of the both families. And she couldn't afford to disappoint her parents who already gave their blessings. After the small talk and a little cry, Amaryllis was calm and ready to go get married. Mr. Winston "Amaryllis dad" walked in. Amaryllis and I were done with our talk, so I greeted Mr. Winston and left the room. After a few words of advice from Mr Winston to his daughter " Amaryllis". The father and daughter duo came out together.
