When Dominic got home, I sent the girls out to play just the three of them in the garden and asked Susie to meet me in the kitchen. My sister was laid out on a chaise lounge by the pool again, not seeming particularly excited to move out of the sun. When she looked up at me though, I made sure my back was to the distracted girls, then gave her a look filled with fear.
I didn’t have to fake it.
With everything going on with Lila and Henry, I didn’t even have any space left to deal with how weird things had been getting between me and my sister.
Thankfully, when it came down to it, she was still showing up for me. As evidenced by how quickly she scrambled out of her chaise lounge when she saw the terrified look on my face.
