Chapter 2: Captured

1560 Words
Layla’S POV As I got deeper into the woods, I could see how dense it was compared to woods in the territory which had more clearing. Where our pack had more space that allowed the sun to shine through, this forest by its best blocked the sun away as much as possible, giving its shed a darker feel. I didn’t want to imagine what lurked in its density. But I knew it was possible. I have heard of Lone wolves that belong to no pack and are more viscous than even the most dangerous Alphas as they had no pack to keep them in check and were free to act on their primal instincts. I tried to shake off the uneasy feeling that crept up on me as I moved deeper into the woods. The silence was deafening, and the dense trees made it difficult to see more than a few feet in front of me. And then I heard it – the distant sound of howls and footsteps. Someone was coming... and they were getting closer. Panic surged through me as I realized that I had been followed. Every twig that snapped under my feet seemed to echo through the forest, making my skin crawl with fear. And then, I heard it again – the unmistakable sound of footsteps coming from behind me. I turned around, my heart racing, but there was no one in sight. Could it be my imagination, or was there really someone following me? I pushed myself to walk faster, trying to stay calm and not let my fear get the best of me. But every so often, I would hear the footsteps again, just a few paces behind me, and my nerves would fray a little bit more. So I quickened my pace, trying to stay aware of my surroundings and any potential danger that lurked in the shadows. And as I walked, I could feel my own primal instincts kicking in, my body tensing up and my senses heightened. I turned around, searching for the source of the noises, but all I could see was the darkness of the forest. I knew then that I had to find a place to hide, and fast. So I darted off the path and into the underbrush, praying to the goddess that I would be able to evade whoever was chasing me. I knew I had to be extra vigilant now, as I had no idea who or what was following me. There was no way I was going to let some lone wolf catch me off guard and take me down. By now I was running as fast as my legs could carry me, my heart pounding loudly in my chest. The trees blurred past me as I darted through the forest, trying to put as much distance between myself and the sound as possible. But it seemed that fate had other plans for me. I heard the howls of the wolves in the distance, followed by the sound of footsteps coming closer and closer. I knew then that I had been discovered. I had to do something. I needed to hide and fast. I turned around and saw my Alpha and a few pack members, a look of pure rage on his face. His eyes glinted with fury as he snarled, “You can’t outrun me, Layla. You belong to this pack, and you will never escape from me.” Panic shot through me as I realized that I was trapped. I had no way out and no chance of winning against my Alpha. I quickly scanned my surroundings, desperate for somewhere to hide. And then I saw it – a small cave hidden in the shadows of the forest. I didn’t think twice before diving inside, huddling in the darkness as my heartbeat thundered in my ears. I peeked out of the cave’s entrance, my eyes fixed on my Alpha as he searched for me. He howled, his voice echoing through the forest as he demanded that I come out. “Search for her, find her!” he ordered. I knew that I couldn’t stay in the cave forever. I needed to find a way to escape and make a run for it. But for now, all I could do was wait and hope that my Alpha would lose interest and leave. Minutes turned into hours as I hid in the cave, my stomach growling with hunger and my mind racing with fear. I tried to calm myself down, taking deep breaths and reminding myself that I was strong and capable of surviving. I waited there in the darkness, my heart pounding in my chest, until I was sure that I was alone. As the first rays of sunlight filtered into the forest, I heard the Alpha’s voice fade away into the distance. It seemed that he had given up on finding me. I waited for a few more minutes, just to be sure, before finally emerging from the cave. I looked around cautiously, making sure that there was no one lurking nearby. As I set off again, my steps slightly more sure, I knew that this was just the first challenge I would face as a lone wolf. But with the thrill of freedom coursing through my veins, I felt ready to take on anything that came my way. Hopefully nothing dangerous. With a sense of relief, I began to walk away from the cave, feeling grateful for the shelter that it had provided me. But as I walked, I knew that my troubles were far from over, and that I had a long and difficult road ahead of me. For what seemed like hours that I had walked, I didn’t realise when I crossed the border of another pack. Because as I sat down on a stone to take a water break, I saw four wolves approach towards me growling. With my heartbeat racing, first thing my mind thought of was rogues and there was no way I could outrun or fight them off. This must be how I die. This has to be it. “Please, don’t hurt me!” I begged, clutching my bag tightly. The wolves stopped, and their growling ceased. They shifted into four handsome men staring back at me. They were all tall and muscular, with striking good looks. One had sandy brown fur and piercing blue eyes. Another had sleek black fur with warm brown eyes. The third wolf had silver-grey fur with deep green eyes, and the last had golden-brown fur with sparkling hazel eyes. That was how I found myself in the clutches of the Black Sun Pack. At first, I thought they were going to be friendly. I had stumbled upon their territory by accident, and when they saw me, they looked at me with suspicion. I tried to explain that I was just passing through, but they didn’t believe me. “Yeah, we don’t believe you nor do we care. You’re coming with us.” The first one said. Before I knew it, I was thrown into a cell and questioned for days. They wanted answers about what pack I cam from, about my intentions, about everything. But I had nothing to offer them. I deeply regretted attempting to run away from my pack, now. At least there, I knew who I was dealing with, and even though it wasn’t perfect, it was home. But now, I was in an unfamiliar place, surrounded by strangers who thought the worst of me. The days were long and agonizing. The cell was small and cramped, with no window to let in any light. My meals were meagre, and every day felt like an eternity. But I never lost hope. I knew that I was innocent, and eventually, they would realize that their accusations about me being a spy was wrong. As the days turned into weeks, I had lost count of how long I had been here. Every day, I prayed for freedom, and every day, I was denied it. Just as I thought today was going to have the same routine, I was startled when a guard appeared at my cell. “Alright Missy, get up and come with me.” He ordered. I scrambled on my feet as they ached and looked at him, “Where are you taking me sir?” I asked. My stomach churned with anxiety as I followed the guard down the dimly lit corridor. “You’ll see, hopefully today won’t be your last. But the masters are here and they want to speak to you.” I had no idea why I was being summoned by the masters or who they were, but I knew it couldn’t be good. I was led down a twisting maze of corridors until we arrived at a grand set of doors adorned with a family crest. The guard opened the doors and gestured for me to enter. As I stepped into the room, my eyes widened at the grandness of it all. The room was vast, with tall arching ceilings. In the centre of the room, stood triplets, each more imposing than the last. They seemed to be looking at me with piercing, calculating eyes, and I tried my best to keep my composure even though I felt extremely unnerved.
