Blurb

Five years ago, she lost everything because of one lie.

Accused of a crime she didn't commit, she watched helplessly as the man she loved chose to believe his first love over his own wife.

He never trusted her innocence.

Never came for her.

But there was one person who did.

His elder brother.

The boy who had loved her silently since their high school days. The one who had watched his younger brother win the heart of the girl he could never forget.

And when everyone turned their backs on her, he was the only one who believed in her innocence.

For five years, she paid for a crime that wasn't hers.

But the woman who walked out of prison wasn't the same woman he had destroyed.

She came back for only two things: a divorce and everything that was rightfully hers.

He thought he had broken her.

Perhaps he did.

But he forgot one thing—

You can only destroy someone so many times before they learn how to destroy you back.

What he never expected was that after the divorce, his elder brother would finally stop hiding in the shadows.

He had loved her first.

And this time, he wasn't going to let her go.

After all, he broke her first.

Chapter 1
The prison gates opened with a sound Kaycee Reed knew she would never forget. For five years, those gates had been the boundary between her and the world. Five years. Five years stolen because of one lie. Kaycee stepped outside, carrying nothing but a small bag containing the few belongings she had left. The sunlight touched her skin, warm and unfamiliar. She stopped. For a moment, she simply stood there. Free. The word felt strange. Five years ago, she had entered those gates as Kaycee Morales—a woman desperately begging her husband to believe she was innocent. Today, she walked out as Kaycee Reed. She had mentally abandoned the Morales name long before the prison doors had opened. Her eyes slowly lifted toward the road ahead. A black car was waiting. She frowned slightly. She hadn't expected anyone. After everything that had happened, she didn't expect Ethan Morales to come for her. And she certainly didn't want him to. The back door opened. A driver stepped out. "Mrs. Morales." Kaycee's expression remained blank. "Don't call me that." The driver hesitated. "Mr. Morales sent me." Of course, he did. Kaycee let out a quiet, humorless laugh. Five years. He hadn't come for her once. Not when she was arrested. Not when she begged him to investigate the truth. Not when she was sentenced. But today, he sent a car. How thoughtful. She entered without another word. The entire drive was silent. Kaycee stared through the window as the city passed by. Everything looked the same. Yet she was completely different. The old Kaycee would have been nervous about returning. She would have wondered whether Ethan had missed her. Whether he regretted what he had done. Whether he would finally apologize. But Kaycee no longer cared about any of that. She wasn't returning for closure. She was returning to end a chapter. The Morales estate came into view. Her eyes settled on the enormous gates. Once, she had considered this place home. Now, it felt like a beautiful cage. The car stopped. Kaycee stepped out. She stared at the house for only a few seconds before walking inside. The moment she entered, the atmosphere changed. A woman sitting comfortably in the living room slowly looked up. Isabella Carter. Kaycee recognized her immediately. Five years had changed Kaycee. Apparently, it had changed Isabella too. She looked comfortable. Too comfortable. As if she belonged there. A slow smile appeared on Isabella's lips. "Kaycee." Kaycee continued walking. No reaction. No anger. No surprise. Isabella's smile faltered slightly. "I heard you were being released today." Kaycee stopped. For one brief moment, Isabella's eyes brightened. Perhaps she thought Kaycee was finally going to react. But Kaycee simply turned her head. "Congratulations." Isabella blinked. "What?" "You heard me." Kaycee's voice was calm. "Congratulations. You seem very comfortable." Isabella's expression hardened slightly. Kaycee looked around the room. Nothing had changed. Except Isabella's presence. "I suppose five years is enough time for someone to settle into another woman's home." The smile disappeared from Isabella's face. "Watch your words, Kaycee." Kaycee finally looked directly at her. For five years, she had imagined this moment. She had imagined screaming. Demanding answers. Asking Isabella why she had destroyed her life. But standing here now, Kaycee felt nothing. Absolutely nothing. She smiled faintly. "Why?" Isabella stood. "You may have forgotten, but Ethan doesn't want you here." Kaycee nodded slowly. "That's unfortunate." Isabella frowned. Kaycee took another step forward. "Because I didn't come back for him." For the first time, Isabella looked uncertain. Kaycee leaned slightly closer, her voice remaining calm. "I came back for a divorce." Isabella stared at her. Then she laughed softly. "A divorce?" "Yes." Kaycee straightened. "Tell Ethan Morales to prepare the papers." She turned to leave. But Isabella wasn't finished. "Do you really think Ethan will let you go so easily?" Kaycee paused. Slowly, she looked over her shoulder. Her eyes were cold. "I don't need his permission." Then she continued walking. Behind her, Isabella's smile slowly disappeared. Because something was wrong. This wasn't the Kaycee she remembered. The old Kaycee would have cried by now. She would have defended herself. She would have asked Ethan why. But this woman? She didn't even look hurt. And somehow— That was far more terrifying. Kaycee walked upstairs toward the room that had once belonged to her. Her fingers touched the familiar railing. Five years ago, she had walked through this house believing she had everything. A husband. A family. A future. Then one lie had taken it all away. She stopped outside Ethan's bedroom. Her expression remained emotionless. She wasn't here to reclaim her marriage. She wasn't here to win Ethan back. She was here to take back her life. And Ethan Morales was about to learn something he should have understood five years ago. The woman he abandoned was gone. The woman who returned? She had nothing left to lose. And that made her dangerous.
