"With freedom, books, flowers and the moon, who could not be happy?" -Oscar Wilde. "My birthday is next week," Alexis informs me happily. I give her a smile as I stretch myself, picking myself up from the chair. "Really when?" I ask her, adjusting the bag's shoulder strap properly. I glance at Alec who was sitting next to me during the assembly. His head was hung low, his eyes closed as he breathes in slowly. He was asleep! "Alec!" I shout, making him jump up straight. He narrows his eyes at me, "you can't wake someone up like that!" "The assembly is over, you doof." He looks around the hall and notices as students were standing up from their chairs and heading out of the hall. He stretches himself with a yawn before standing up, "well that was a nice nap. What did I miss?" "Well, there is some boring camp during the mid-term break that the school is organizing," Alexis answers him. "What camp?" Alec perks up at this. I frown, I hope he won't make me go there. By the looks of it, he seems to enjoy the wildlife. "Just this camp for spring," Alexis waves it off as we walk through the hallway. "The school organizes it every year so as to minimize the underage drinking and other illegal things people do during such breaks. There are parties, camp nights and some activities to do," I inform him properly. "Sounds fun," Alec says, making me roll my eyes. I knew Alec would like the idea. Although now that I think about it, it would actually be fun now that I have friends. I never thought about it before because I had no friends to go with so I knew I wouldn't enjoy if I did go. "We should go," Alec states what I already knew he was gonna say. "Fine by me," I reply him, making him grin. Alexis frowns at this, "what? But think of the parties we won't be able to attend because of the stupid camp. What if we would be getting lectures during camping nights?" "I think it's going to be fun, and plus I can actually go to a party without wearing a wig there because everyone in school knows who I am," Alec answers her with a shrug. Well if he was going, it sure is going to be fun and I'm not just saying that because I like him. "I think it's going to be fun too." "Whatever. I'll come because you guys are the only friends I have, and if it won't be fun then i'll be there to tell you guys I told you so," Alexis says nonchalantly. We turn right heading towards the hallway with our lockers. "But more importantly, they announced that the midterms are coming up," I point out making Alexis groan. "I really need to find a tutor. I can't understand a thing in History!" "I can help you in any other subject that we both do?" I offer her, to which she replies with a grateful smile. "I'll let you know when I have a problem, so far chemistry is alright." "But enough about the demotivating topic, next week is my BIRTHDAY!" She squeals happily, her hands in the air. Alec's eyebrows rose, "really, when?" "On Sunday," she answers him. "I expect gifts." "Are you going to do a party?" I ask her, mentally praying she would say no. She shakes her head pouting, "can't do a party with two people now, can I? Plus my parents won't be home, they traveled for another business trip on Sunday and they won't be coming back until the beginning of March." "You do know that great house parties happen when parents have traveled, right?" Alec informs us as we neared Alexis' locker. She opens her locker to put her stuff inside while we wait for her. "I know but they're just never home for almost any occasion. I get to see them once a month so I'm not really in a party mood." I let out a sigh of relief, "well I'm just glad I won't be forced to go to a party this weekend." Alec and Alexis share a laugh. "You don't have to worry about that, I'll be studying for my mid-terms," she says seriously. Both Alec and I turn to look at her with shock. She snorts, "who am I kidding? I'll be watching reruns of vampire diaries." I giggle. That's the Alexis I know. We walk towards mine and Alec's locker and walk to our separate classes when the bell rings. ****** "So I was thinking of a gift to buy her but I can't think of anything!" I groan through the phone, laying on my chest on my bed. The tv was on, showing the news, which I wasn't really watching. "Um buy her some makeup or a dress," Alec suggests which makes me sit upright with a smile. "You're right! How can you be better at this than me? And I'm a girl!" Okay, I know I've never shopped for a friend before so that might be the reason, but still, he didn't even have to stop to think twice about it. "Haha! It's not like she's not easy to read, she would like makeup, dresses, bracelet, chocolate, a friendship bracelet, need I go on?" He says in a bored tone. "Girls are readable, I can easily tell how to please them." "And I wonder why you're known as the ladies man," I mutter. "Was," he states. "Whatever," I brush it off, trying hard to ignore the pang in my chest. "So I was thinking about doing something for her, other than buying her a gift." "Like what? Throw her a party?" He drawls sarcastically. I can tell he was rolling his eyes right now even though I can't see him. "Well, not actually a party. A small get together, me, you and her. Movies until late at night and we'll surprise her with a cake," I start saying, smiling at my brilliant plan. "That doesn't sound like a girly sleepover at all," Alec groans sarcastically. "Yes! That's a great idea. I'll sleepover at her place and we can do medi-pedis, do each other's hair, talk about boys-" "No please no," Alec starts to whine, "I don't need the details, trust me. Unless you're going to talk about me, that is." I can practically hear the smirk in his voice. I blush instantly because I knew he was definitely going to come up in our talks, and at the moment, I was glad he wasn't there to see me. "Anyway," I reply to him, rolling my eyes, "you never told me why you didn't like Alexis in the beginning. I notice you're friendlier to her now, I hope you like her now." "I just don't get used to people easily. I'm so used to being used, I can't recognize the real ones from the fakes," he says with a sigh. "But she's your friend, so I decided to just give her a chance." "How come you easily got used to me?" "Well, remember when you mentioned that your only friend was the school secretary?" I blush, "yeah." "Well, that and the way you were so shy and nervous to talk to me. It made me realize you're not exposed to the world's reality, you don't know that people can act as your 'friends' so they can get what they want, you don't know people can be selfish," he tells me. "Also the fact that you were trying to push me away, most-actually all the time, people try to get close to me, not avoid me." Did he notice? Well, I can never be a good actress, that's for sure. "What could Alexis possibly want from you though?" I ask him, rolling on my back as I stare at the ceiling thoughtfully. "People usually want fame and money," he reminds me. "Yeah, but you're undercover, so fame can't possibly be the reason and you don't give us money." "That's why I decided to give her a chance. Plus she's a fan, you got to love your fans," he jokes, trying to lighten up the mood. I roll my eyes, a small smile playing on my lips, "well then, you're going shopping with me for her gift and the snacks." He groans, "but why?" "Because I need company, and you have to also buy her a gift." "Fine!" He huffs, making me roll my eyes again. My phone vibrates signaling my alarm for work. "Well, I got to go get ready for work, talk to you later," I tell him. "Take care, Summer," he replies, before hanging up the phone.
