16. The Date (Part 1)

1925 Words
"Years of love has been forgotten, in the hatred of a minute." -Edgar Allan Poe. I slowly start descending on the stairs, careful not to trip and fall on the high heels. That would be embarrassing. When I reach the last step, I look up to see Alec in a heated conversation with my mum. I observe him and I notice he was wearing a suit. Did I mention I love guys in suits? He looks dashing, his hair, for once, was neatly combed, giving him an intimidating look. My mum notices me first, and she smiles making Alec look at me too. Alec stops talking, his breath hitches, mouth slightly open, gaping at me in shock. I blush, feeling insecure. What if I looked like a joke? With all the courage I could muster, I slowly make my way closer to him, careful not to trip. "Beautiful," he breathes out in a small whisper that only I could hear, a small smile playing on his lips. I blush at his compliment. He brings his hand, which he had placed on his back, forward, holding out a single red rose. I smile as I take it from him, "thanks." Taking the rose with me, we make our way outside the house, Alec holding my hand so as to help me walk with the stupid high heels. "Bye mum!" "Bye, kids! Have fun," she answers excitedly, a huge grin on her face. With a small smile, I close the door behind me and make my way to the black SUV parked at the driveway. I enter the car and Alec starts driving to the main road. "Why didn't you wear your disguise?" I ask him, giving him a scolding look. His eyes glued to the road ahead, he opens his mouth to answer me, "I wouldn't want you to remember your first date being with a guy who wasn't even himself." My heart skipped a beat at the word 'date'. "But I would know it's you, I think you should care about people finding out about your location more than my first date." "But it's night time, Summer. Plus everyone will be busy with their own date tonight to even concentrate on us," he answers loudly before he added something under his breath. "Not that there would be anybody." "What? Where are we going?" I ask him. Knowing Alec, he can even take me skinny dipping. I roll my eyes at the thought. "Now now now beautiful, where have you heard that someone tells their date where they are going for a date?" He asks, giving me a mischievous smile before his attention turns back to the road. "Well they sometimes do," I mutter under my breath. "Not me." I sigh at his reply, watching as the houses pass by quickly as I hum to the faint voice of The Weekend in the background. After a few minutes, we arrive at a restaurant I've never been to before. He enters the underground parking lot and I notice the lack of cars inside. "We are here," he tells me, removing his seatbelt. He gets out of the car and quickly walks over to my side of the door. Just as I was about to open it, he opens it for me. "Aren't you a gentleman," I tease, accepting his hand that he held out to me. He gives me a half smile with a wink. We enter the restaurant and notice that it was completely empty. There was a waiter waiting at the door, giving us a smile. "Mr. Armstrong, how is your evening?" The waiter greets him. "It's good," Alec answers seriously, unlike his usual self. "And your beautiful date?" He acknowledges me, making me blush at what he called me. "I'm good," I squeaked. He leads us through the empty tables and chairs, over towards an open door that leads to a balcony. I hold my breath as I observe my surroundings, the balcony was decorated beautifully with roses attached to its stem, sticking onto the wall, the only light came from the moonlight and a small candle placed at the center of the only table in the balcony, with a champagne bottle in the middle. A middle-aged man was seated on the piano, playing a soft tune, his eyes closed. "Table for two?" The waiter asks, pulling out a chair for me. I give him a grateful smile before sitting down, Alec following suit. The waiter then walks away, leaving us alone. Well, with the pianist. "Why is there no one here?" I ask him. He gives me a smile. "Now we don't want people to find out I'm here, do we?" He smiles playfully. He takes the champagne and opens it, making a 'pop' sound. He pours the drink onto the glasses before handing one out to me. "You rented out the whole restaurant?!" I shriek. How did he manage to do that at such a short notice? Although I shouldn't be shocked because he was a celebrity. He shrugs in reply, still holding the glass towards me. A small breeze passes by when I accept the champagne. I take a small sip, letting the sweet taste enter my tastebuds. It tasted like some expensive juice. "Don't worry, I know you don't drink alcohol so I ordered the non-alcoholic one," he assures me with a smile. I give him a grateful smile, taking another sip just when the waiter walks in with a tray filled with food. "I don't remember ordering," I mutter when some type of meat was handed to me. "Oh, I ordered tonight's special," he answers me, already cutting out his steak. I shrug, grateful that he actually ordered for me because I was sure I wouldn't know the type of food written on the menu. I taste the food and instantly my taste buds explode. It was delicious! I felt very sorry for Alexis, knowing she would've ordered the salad and can't taste the wonderful food. Speaking of Alexis, I needed to ask Alec why he acts rudely to her, all I wanted was for us to be alone so I could bring the topic up. "Alec?" "Mhm?" "Why do you act so mean to Alexis?" I ask him, not looking at him straight in the eye. "What do you mean?" "Why do you always answer her with short answers and whenever we want to hang out with her, you kinda seem like you don't want to?" This time, I lift my face up to look at him. He was looking at me with curious eyes, holding his champagne glass close to his lips. "Summer," he starts, a playful glint in his eyes, "this is a date, we talk about us, not about other people." I give him a look showing him that I know he's trying to change the subject. "I'm serious, you al-" I start but I was cut off by Alec himself. "If you really want to know, I'll tell you another day, but I don't want to talk about something that would change my mood right now." I blink. Well, I didn't know he hates her that much. "And no, it's not that I don't like her. She's a nice girl, but tonight is about us," he reads my mind. I sigh but I let the topic go. I hear a faint tone of a familiar music I know and I try to concentrate on the man playing the piano to know what song it was. Alec starts humming along to it and it finally registers what song it was when the man starts to sing. An old classic. The lady in red. I've never seen you looking so lovely as you did tonight, I've never seen you shine so bright, "You want to dance?" Alec asks, holding out his hand towards me. And I have never seen that dress you're wearing, I smile at him, with my heart beating rapidly against my chest, I accept his hand and stand slowly, careful not to trip with the heels. He walks me closer to the pianist, taking my hand and placing them around his neck while his were holding my waist. He pulls me closer to him, our chest touching. He gives me his playful half smile, before he slowly starts swaying to the music. The lady in red is dancing with me, cheek to cheek, Alec starts to sing along silently, his breath fanning my cheek. I unconsciously lean my head on his chest, feeling his heartbeat quicken. I smile when I realize the effect I had on him. There's nobody here, it's just you and me,It's where I want to be, I'll never forget the way you look tonight; As he says these words, I look up at him to find him looking at me. His eyes showed an emotion I couldn't quite decipher. He gives me a small smile, before twirling me around. As soon as I face him again, his hand went on my back, pinning me close to him again. Butterflies were swarming in my stomach and I couldn't help but feel very happy at the moment. And when you turned to me and smiled, it took my breath away He removes his hand that was holding my hand, lifting it up towards my face. He touches my lips softly, making my heart skip a beat. "Red lipstick looks so good on you," he whispers, making me blush profusely. "U-uh-" I start stammering, not really knowing what I was going to reply him. He suddenly leans in closer to me, his eyes on my lips. Is he going to kiss me? Oh my god. Alec Armstrong is going to kiss me. Just when we were only inches apart, a flash came through, making Alec quickly whip his head towards the source. The waiter was taking a picture of us! "What are you doing?" He asks, looking angry. The waiter puts his hand up as if showing surrender," just wanted to take a pic of you guys for memories, I mean no harm. I took it from your own phone. You left it on the table." Alec sighs in relief, running his hand through his hair roughly. "It's okay." "U-uh I wanted to ask if you guys were done so I could bring the desserts?" He asks us, eyeing our table. Our plates were still very full, well more specifically, my plate. I was already full anyway, I hope that they can put it to go. I mean, I was really craving something sweet right now, now that he mentions it anyway. We go back to the table and a few minutes later, the waiter walks in with our desserts and we quickly dig in, savoring the sweet taste of chocolate. Once we were done, Alec pays with the credit card and we walk back to the parking lot, towards the car. When we were inside the car, I check the time on the clock, it was almost ten. My mum didn't even call to ask me when I'll be back home. I mean it's a school night after all. We pull out of the underground parking lot and enter the road. Instead of driving towards the left, where my place was, he took a right turn, only going further away from home. "Um Alec, my place is this way," I remind him, showing him the direction with my hand. He gives me a mischievous smile," who says we are going home?"
