"If you don't see the book you want on the shelf, write it." -Beverly Clearly.
"Stop biting your nails like that," my mum rolls her eyes as she chops the onions. I sigh swinging on the kitchen chair, "I can't help it, i'm nervous."
She stops cutting the onions to look at me,"look hunny, I get that they are your first ever friends and this is the first time that i'll be meeting them, but it's not a big deal, really. Plus they'll love me."
I couldn't help but roll my eyes at that, trust mum to say something like that. It was almost two in the afternoon and i've been panicking since I woke up this morning. I sigh standing up from the kitchen chair,"i'll be upstairs." I tell her, deciding that maybe a good book can distract me.
As I sat on my bed, reading Dear John a small ping rings from my phone, signaling that there was a message.
Alec: What's your mum's favorite color?
I furrow my eyebrows as I read this question. Why the heck would he ask me this?
Summer :) : Um. Yellow, why?
Alec: Well, the yellow shirt it is then.
My eyes widen with surprise when I read his text, my cheeks forming a light shade of pink. He was actually making an effort for my mum to like him. I chuckle before typing a response to him.
Summer :) : You're so weird.
I lock my phone before going back to read again, my mind engrossed in the world of John and Savannah until five pm. I close my book, and stand up with a sigh, stretching my arms and dragging myself to the closet.
I take my big plain blue t-shirt with my black jeans and make my way over to the bathroom. I take a quick shower and slip into my clothes. Taking my hair tie, I pull my hair into a loose ponytail before making my way downstairs to the kitchen.
The smell of roasted chicken quickly hit my nose making my stomach growl, I didn't realize I was hungry.
"What did you make for tonight?" I ask her as I enter the kitchen. She looks up at me with a smile, holding a tray of freshly baked cookies.
"Lasagna, roasted chicken and these delicious cookies," she answers happily. She seemed happy as she grinned from ear to ear, flour was all over her hair, face and body.
"Go get ready i'll finish up," I tell her, taking the tray from her hands and setting it on top of the kitchen counter. She gives me a small smile before walking out of the kitchen. I take one piece of cookie and take a bite from it, placing the rest of the cookies in a bowl.
I sit on the kitchen stool when I was done, absentmindedly playing with my nails.
What was taking them so long?
I stand up and open the fridge to take out a jug of milk, pouring the contents in my glass. Just as I was about to take a sip, the bell rings. My heart leaps and I dusted off imaginary dust from my jeans before I made my way to the door.
I open the door to see a smiling Alec with a yellow t-shirt on and sun glasses covering his eyes. "H-hey, come in."
"Damn. It smells good in here," he says grinning, rubbing his hands together as he follows me to the living room.
"Well tell your greedy stomach to wait, we'll have to wait for Alex to come," I tell him sarcastically, suddenly not feeling nervous again.
"But that's not fair, I came early, she should've too if she wanted food," he complains, his eyebrows furrowed. I roll my eyes at his childish behavior but a small smile escaped my lips.
"I see you decided to come with a disguise," I observe, not really happy about the possibility of lying to my mum,"but you do happen to know that that's not really a good disguise, especially since you'd be with my mum at a close distance."
He gives me a confused look before he realizes something. "Oh, this was just because I took my private car, and it's not tinted. I didn't want to catch any attention," he says, removing his shades and his cap.
"Because a Rolls Royce won't catch any attention," I mutter sarcastically, rolling my eyes.
"I bought a new car, although it isn't as user friendly as my baby, it's still good. As long as people don't start taking pictures of my car, it'll do," he says proudly, a smug smile stretched on his face.
"Hunny, I heard the doorbell ring. Have your friends arrived?" My mum says as she enters the living room with a smile on her face. Her smile turns into a gasp when she notices Alec,"oh my! And who are you? You look very familiar, where have I seen you before?"
"Summer, you didn't tell me you had a sister," Alec smiles pleasantly, taking out his hand for her to shake,"it's a pleasure to meet you. I'm Alec, Summer's friend."
My mum's smile widens as she looks at Alec, I can tell she already likes him. She gives him her hand and Alec's pulls it closer to his lips, giving it a light kiss. "I'm not her sister dear, i'm her mother,"she replies with a light chuckle. I resisted the urge to roll my eyes, Alec was so doing this on purpose.
"Well, you don't look a day older than twenty, Mrs. Moore," he answers with a smirk.
"Oh please, call me Eve," my mum embarrassingly blushes. I gaped at this exchange before rolling my eyes. "Okay, when you are done flirting with my mum, Alec, i'll be in the kitchen.
"Oh come on hunny. This young man was only stating the obvious," my mum continues, making me groan. I leave the living room just as the doorbell rings for the second time today. I cut my trip to the kitchen short and made my way to the door. I open it to find a smiling Alexis. She looks innocent with the pink dress reaching her knees and a small jean coat, her makeup was light, with a nude pink lipstick replacing her usual dark shades.
"Someone looks pretty," I compliment with a smile. She gives me a small hug with a chuckle. "I know right!" She answers oh so modestly. I roll my eyes playfully, moving a little to make way for her to enter.
"Mum! Alexis is here!" I shout as we both enter the living room. My mum turns to face her, grinning widely as she notices her. "Oh my! What a pretty little girl," she gushes, walking towards her and encircling her in a tight hug. I resist the urge to groan, my mum was embarrassing me! I hear Alec chuckle behind me and I give him a look, he shrugs at me before moving closer towards me.
"You look so alike," he whispers with a wide grin on his face, glancing at me before looking back at my mum. I let out an unattractive snort,"sure and I have Beyoncé's figure."
He rolls his eyes. "You don't see what I see," he breathes out quietly, I almost didn't hear him if it wasn't for how close we were. I blush at his statement and quickly lowered my head, trying to hide my blush.
"Okay now that everyone's here, let's go eat," my mum says enthusiastically, clapping her hands together before turning towards the door, making her way to the kitchen.
I help her set the table and once we were done, I sat beside Alexis, across Alec and mum. Immediately after we sat down at the table, Alec reaches for the chicken. "mhh! I'm starving," he says as he greedily looks at his plate, which was now full of food.
I roll my eyes, men eat like pigs.
I served myself some lasagna and immediately dug in. A few minutes of us devouring our food, the iPhone ringtone rings and Alexis jumps as she notices her phone screen flash, mum in big letters flashing on her phone. "I got to take this," she says, standing up from the chair and entering the kitchen.
"So Alec, what do you plan to do after graduating?" My mum asks him, making me turn my attention to him. My mum still didn't realize that Alec was in fact a celebrity, and I was really curious about what he plans to do after school.
Alec drinks his glass of orange juice before answering, "uh, I didn't really know when I first joined Sitka high school. I was messed up when my mum died, she was the only person who pushed me to work harder, and I lost her. I had lost my inspiration."
"The only reason I joined high school was so I could get away from the media, not because I wanted to study," he admits, then he looks up from his food and looked up at me, a small smile on his face. "I didn't have any plans on what I was going to do after high school, I had given up on my music career, that was until I met the only other person who believes in my music and kind of pushes me to go back to it. So I think i'll go back to my music career."
My eyes widen at this, He actually took my advice seriously. My mum smiles knowingly while observing us,"now I know why you looked so familiar. Must've seen you in magazines and the news."
"So what did I miss?" Alexis asks when she enters the dining room.
"Mum just realized that Alec's a celebrity," I mutter through my lasagna, making my mum look at me disapprovingly. She always scolds me about speaking with my mouth full, something about it being unladylike.
We ate and made small talks, my mum asking Alexis and Alec questions until we were full and couldn't even stand up.
"Well, I gotta go, my mum's been on my back about leaving my little sister with my irresponsible brother alone at home," Alexis announces when we were at the living room watching sponge bob squarepants. She stands up to hug me and my mum. "Thanks for the dinner Mrs. Moore," she says politely.
"It was nothing," my mum answers with a smile. She gives us a small wave before she leaves.
"I guess I better leave too," Alec says, stretching, his shirt goes up a little showing his V-line and I had to struggle to keep my gaze up at his face. "The food was delicious, Eve," he compliments her, earning a blush from my mum. Eve? Really? First name basis now?
"Okay, you can go before you start flirting with my mum again," I say with a groan, earning a chuckle from Alec.
"Goodnight Summer," he says with a smirk, ruffling my hair, making me frown. I close the door after him and I yawn making my way upstairs before I was stopped by my mum.
"So, Alec?" She says with a knowing smile on her face. I roll my eyes with a groan. "Goodnight mum!" I say, before walking upstairs to my room without another glance.
