"We accept the love we think we deserve." -Stephen Chbosky. "Alec!" I shout when the water reaches my face, making my eye itch because of the salt. I swim closer to him before splashing the water at him. He chuckles wiping the water away from his eyes. "You'll regret doing that Summer!" He warns. I swim faster, away from him, going to the shore. I was laughing by the time I reached the little island we found. I hid behind Justin, whose boat we rented to go see the dolphins. He was 18 and it was apparently his father's boat but he usually helps him. He agreed to hide Alec's identity without a second thought or even blackmailing him, and he's been friendly to us, saying he rarely gets to take people his age here. We saw the dolphins and swam with them then he took us to this island he found a month ago. It was plain sand and by the time sun sets, the water usually covers the whole land. "Surrender before I come to get you," I hear Alec warn. I only giggle as I grab Justin's arm. A few seconds later I'm in the air with only Alec's butt and the sand as the view. "Alec! Let me go!" I scream with a giggle. "No way! Not until I get my payback," Alec replies me, and before I realized it, water covered my whole body. I quickly swam up, breathing in as soon as my head resurfaced. I glare at Alec who only laughs at me in response. "Hey guys, the water is increasing by the minute, it's almost sunset. I think we should go back," Justin stops our little fight. He stands up, takes his shirt and puts it back on. We swam towards the boat and climbed on, as soon as I got out of the water, the cold air hit me, making me shiver. "You better wear your clothes again," Alec tells me, handing me my pile of clothes. I wear my top on top of the swimsuit but I don't bother wearing the leggings. "You guys are heading back home after this?" Justin asks. We nod in reply and he quirks his eyebrow, "there's a small gathering I'm having with my friends, with traditional music and bonfire by the beach tonight, you guys should come." Well, that sounds fun. If there are a few people. "We'll be there," Alec confirms, giving him a friendly smile. "Great! I'll come to pick you guys up at the store at 8?" He suggests, his hands handling the boat engine, directing it to turn a little to the left. Alec nods in reply wearing his wig again as I text my mum a quick text letting her know that I'd be really late tonight. We reach the beach after half an hour and we immediately walk off to the area selling the seafood. I had informed Alec about the area near the beach where they sell street food, only it was only seafood. He was thrilled saying he missed seafood and that it was his favorite type of food. After ordering, we watched the guy chopping the fishes and putting spices and cooking them. Once they were done he handed us each our food on paper plates and we sat at one of the benches. The food tasted delicious as always. We finished off with orange juices and once we were done, we decided to stroll around the beach. The weather was certainly going back to being cold again, I shiver, tightening my arms around me as the temperature suddenly becomes colder. It didn't help that we were still in our wet swimming costumes. "We should find something warm to wear before we catch a cold," Alec announces, making his way towards the stores. "I'm buying you this," Alec states, showing me a yellow dress, with little blue flowers at the bottom, it had straps at the neck connecting it with the dress instead of straps, and it reaches about knee length. "I don't wear dresses," I answer him, rolling my eyes. I walk up to the men's section and take a black t-shirt with a palm tree in the middle. I take blue shorts to go with it. "I'll wear this, thank you." "Oh come on! You said no to the bikini at least wear this, I even took the most decent one of all," he complains with a pout. I roll my eyes but didn't bother replying him as I walked towards the small changing room. After I changed I come out of the changing room to find Alec already paying for my stuff. "I'm still paying you back," I inform him, trying to dry my hair with the towel the store owner gave me. He rolls his eyes as he accepts the change and we make our way towards the store Justin told us he'd pick us up from. It was almost 8 pm so we thought we'd just go wait for him there. Justin arrives at exactly two minutes before 8, his hands in his jean pockets, with a slight smile playing on his lips. "You guys are punctual," he comments when he reaches us. "Come on, the party has already started," he tells us, walking off towards the left, with us right behind him. We reach an area at the beach with music, there was a place with a short guy at the barbecue stove making barbecued meat, a few groups of young adults were playing with the drums, they looked around mid twenties with other people in a circle as they talked, drank and watched the girl in the middle doing some type of traditional dance near the bonfire. Most of the people were guys; There were only four girls in total, and that's if you include me. "Wow!" Alec breathes beside me. I nod my head with a smile as I looked at the area around me. "You guys want something to drink?" Justin offers, gesturing his hand towards the guy at the barbecue stove. Beside him were crates of drinks. Mostly alcohol but I could see a crate of sodas. "I'll have a sprite," Alec answers first. "Same," I agree with him. I hope he doesn't spike us, I can't go back home drunk. My mum would definitely freak out. She may be a "cool" mum but she can't stand alcohol. "You guys don't drink?" He asks us, shocked. I shake my head in reply making my long hair slap my face. "I want to minimize drinking when I'm here," Alec answers. "Oh and by the way, I thought of my cover name," he says with a smirk. "Which is?" I ask him, as Justin waits for him to continue. "Greek god." "Alec! You can't say your name is Greek god!" "But why not?" He pouts, folding his arms against his chest. I roll my eyes. "Your fake name will be Elmo," I announce, only to hear him groan. "Why would anyone want to be called Elmo?" He asks stubbornly, clearly not liking his new name. "At least it's a name!" "Fine! Call me Caleb. At least it's a hot name," he finally says. "Okay Caleb," Justin says amused, "I'll go get you guys your drinks." He walks off and I stare at his retreating figure absentmindedly while pulling my hair up, trying to put them into a bun. "No, leave them down," he says, stopping me. I look at him questioningly. "Why? They're irritating me!" I whine. Which is true, having waist length hair was annoying. I've always wanted to cut them, especially since I hate combing my hair, but I either always forget or I just feel lazy. "Because I like them down," he confesses, making me blush. As soon as I was about to respond, Justin came back handing us our drinks. I open the can and take a sip, the fizzy drink going down my throat. We walk towards a group of people sitting and watching the girl. She danced beautifully with her long flowery skirt flowing in rhythm. She was also beautiful, long chestnut colored curly hair let loose, flowing behind her as she danced, her skin tanned and her smile wide. She seemed to enjoy what she was doing as I sat there watching her every move. I wish I was that confident. I couldn't even talk in front of people, let alone dance! "That seems fun! You want to dance?" Alec asks me, with a mischievous smile dancing on his lips. My eyes widen at his request. He can't expect me to agree to that? He knows I have stage fright! "Wha-? Y-you know I can't do that! Everyone is watching!" I protest, folding my arms across my chest. He rolls my eyes before grabbing my hand and pulling me up with him. "Alec! What are you doing?" I whisper when we reach near the girl. People started cheering and whistling, making me more nervous. "It's Caleb. I'm teaching you how to have fun," he hollers, grinning widely as he starts jumping randomly. I smile awkwardly, holding my left elbow with my right hand. "Hey!" Alec calls out to the dancing girl. The girl stops dancing and gives him a friendly smile. "Can you teach her how to do the dance? A few beginner steps," Alec asks her, giving me a mischievous smile before he turns his attention back to the girl. The girl nods with a smile. "Sure, what's your name?" She asks me. "Summer," I answer her, returning her smile. "Haida." "Just imagine that no one's here," Alec whispers, before he leaves, going back to where we were sitting. Oh my god, I'm so going to make fun of myself. I've never danced. Ever. I'm pretty sure I wouldn't be good in it anyway. "Just look at my feet and follow my steps," Haida says, lifting her skirt a little. She lifts her feet and stands on her tiptoe, then she follows the drum, standing on her tiptoe occasionally while shaking her waist a little. I observe her every move, it didn't look complicated at all, she mostly just danced randomly to the beat, doing the tiptoe after a few seconds. She suddenly stops, looking at me. "Now you try it," she says, making my heart beat rapidly against my chest. I take a deep breath and tiptoed, the way she did, and when the drums started beating, I close my eyes, imagining I was alone in my room. I slowly start following the drums, doing the tiptoeing thing every now and then, hoping I was actually doing it correctly. "Wow! You're a fast learner," Haida compliments with a smile, I return her smile with a grin of my own, as she joins me. I had to admit, it was actually really fun. I laugh as we held each other's hand while we dance. "Now it's time for the spin," Haida says, before she spins towards me, her back landing on my chest. "Now you do it, let go of my hand, spin outwards," she explains to me. I nod my head, spinning the opposite direction, smiling as I close my eyes. My head hit a hard thing, beating rapidly as it heaved up and down. My hand was grasped against a firm hand and I instantly recognize the thing I bumped into as a person's chest. I slowly open my eyes, looking up at the owner of the hard chest. "Alec," I breathe nervously. Why was my heart beating so rapidly? "Shh!" He says, his voice low, he places his finger on my lips to shut me up, although I couldn't even talk even if I wanted to. "It's Caleb," he announces, he removes his finger from my lips leaving a tingling sensation. "Let's dance," he says, lifting my right hand with his, spinning me around again. I smile, the nervous feeling is gone. I start dancing with Alec, his hand still on mine as we grinned widely at each other. Once we were tired we walk towards the barbecue, taking a piece of steak, we sit at the corner and eat. "So did you have fun?" He asks after he swallows his first bite. I nod my head enthusiastically. "Heck yeah! I was so scared in the beginning, I wanted to run you over with a truck. Twice," I reply him. He chuckles, shaking his head. "The things that give you an adrenaline rush create the best memories."
