46. Serissa

Serissa I woke up on a mattress that reeked of mildew and something even more pungent that I didn't want to think too hard about based on the stains. My head was pounding, my mouth tasted like someone had shoved a bunch of pennies in there, and my stomach was slightly queasy. I sat up slowly, but the room started spinning. I closed my eyes, hoping I wouldn't be sick. The feeling began to ease, so I risked opening my eyes again to try to figure out where I was. A florescent light buzzed overhead, illuminating the white space. The room I was in was small, but my part of it was even smaller. Thick iron bars trapped me against the back of the room with the dirty mattress on a metal frame that was attached to the floor, and a toilet with no water in it.
