chapter 1
let me start this off simple. my name is Amilia. I'm seventeen and I'm a senior at Oakford High. I've spent the majority of my highschool life hidden away behind a camera lens, so most of the students that go here with me have no clue who I am, but the ones who do, have made it their life goal to make my life a living hell.
it's not that I was ugly. I mean, I like to think I look pretty basic. Granted I'm a bit larger than social media likes to display as normal but is that so bad? another thing they seemed to have a problem with is that I wore glasses. apparently wearing glasses is like social suicide or something. as if I can help that I can't see.
they also hate my clothes. it's a daily, jeans with a band T or a hoodie. and I always and I mean always keep my auburn hair pulled back into a messy bun on the top of my head.
I stood at my locker and stared at Tanner Morehead. his blonde hair brushed back perfectly as his football uniform seemed to fit him in all the right places.
I cringed as I watched him pull his on again, off again girlfriend, Amanda into his arms and kiss her. everything about that duo made me itch. they didn't even like one another but couldn't seem to leave each other alone. it was odd.
I jumped as the voice of my Best friend, Ari yelled my name. I looked over my shoulder and laughed as I watched the blue haired girl dance her way to me with a smile on her Olive toned face.
she stopped right next to me before leaning on the lockers. " what's up biotch?"
I turned back to grab my chemistry books from my locker. " oh ya know, same ole same"
" so, eye banging Tanner?"
I shut my locker before shooting her a glare. " I do not eye bang Tanner"
she laughed as she rolled her eyes. " right"
" I don't" I defended as I gathered my bag to head to class.
as I turned to make my way down the hall, I bumped hard into non other than the one and only, Erica.
Erica was basically our queen B. she was a cheerleader and looked down on everyone who wasn't. she was the main culprit of making my life a literal nightmare.
I pursed my lips as she scoffed at me. her brunette hair rested over her shoulders as the pink dress she wore stopped right above her knees.
" ever heard of watching where you go?" she snapped as she glared at me.
" it was an accident" I responded.
" an accident? you're an accident" she laughed.
" wanna watch how you speak to my best friend?" Ari spoke from behind me.
Ari couldn't stand Erica more than I. it didn't help that they're both on the cheerleading team and it's like a rival thing going on between them.
Erica scoffed once again as she put her hand to her mouth and studied Ari. her eyes scanning her body.
" haven't we told you fake dye isn't aloud?"
" haven't I told you I don't care?" Ari snapped back.
Erica looked back at me before looking back at Ari. " you know, hanging around her makes you a loser by association and it's not a good look for the team"
" then kick me off the team. oh that's right, you can't because you're no longer the captain"
I chuckled as Ari said that. it was enough to make Erica shut up and walk away, her two little minions hot on her trail. I turned around to face Ari who was in the middle of blowing Erica a kiss.
seeing those two go at it was always amusing. mostly because Ari didn't hold back. she was a firecracker, that's for sure.
Ari and I made our way down the hall and towards our class. she pulled the door open and aloud me to walk in before she continued talking.
" I don't understand what you see in him" she said as she looked at Tanner who was seated in the front of the class, girls surrounding him.
I shrugged as we made our way towards the back. " he's cute"
" I've heard you say that since middle school" she said as we took our seats. " and as much as I've tried, I just can't see it"
I smiled at her as I placed my book on the desk and flipped it to the chapter Ms. Anderson had written across the board.
I reached back down to grab some papers out of my bag when I heard Ari gasp. I looked up at her to see her eyes wide and a smile spread across her face. " who is that?"
I looked towards the front of the class to see who she was talking about, that's when my eyes landed on him.
he was tall and his dark hair was a mess as It hung down in his eyes. his arms were covered in tattoos as they reached the tops of his hands. he wore a white plain T that was almost too small from the muscles and a pair of black joggers.
" forget Tanner. he's your new conquest" Ari said with a smile.
I furrowed my brows at her. " conquest?"
she wiggled her eyes at me before turning her attention back to the new kid. I had to admit, he was hot. hot enough to make me forget about the football player that doesn't know I exist.
the teacher spoke up, going over the new kid and how she expected us to show respect and blah blah. the same crap lecture we get almost on a daily. I tried to make myself invisible as he made his way to the only empty seat in the class, directly behind me.
Ari and I watched as he took his seat. the strong black ice smell poured off of him with a hint of mint. I wanted to talk to him but Lord knew I wouldn't. I didn't have it in me to talk to Tanner, I dang sure wasn't about to talk to the new kid.
the excitement I felt to have him so close to me quickly vanished as he leaned up in his seat and whispered in my ear.
" don't f*****g stare at me, freak"
and just like that, any thought I had that he might not be a prick like the rest, went flying out the door.
awesome.
