Dom understood why Kiko had so few employees. Though business seemed to be fairly good for after a holiday, having four people around only meant there was a lot of down time. Not that Dom personally minded. He wasn’t getting paid and didn’t particularly care to work all that hard, and more than that: he could pester Chad.
Kiko had assigned them to redecorate the store while he and Katie handled story time and the bulk of the customers. Dom spent the time packing the extra trees back up in the boxes, trying to worm information out of Chad about Roy, and watching Chad get even more uncomfortable about everything.
“Those bars were pretty good,” said Dom. “You sure Roy didn’t make them?”
“Nah, that was all me,” said Chad. “And don’t talk about him so loud, for real. Someone might hear.”
