"Sarah?!"
My voice echoed through the cafe and I received a slew of dirty looks from the other customers again.
"Sarah?"
I lowered my voice to a whisper and held the phone as tightly to my ear as possible. I could feel my heart pounding in my chest as I waited to hear her voice again, to know that she was safe.
"Yeah, I'm here. Did Steve tell you where I was?"
I nodded in response even though I knew she couldn't see me.
"He's actually with me right now. I just heard… I've been at my dad's."
There was a warm-hearted chuckle on the other end of the line and I could feel a warmth flow over my body. I had missed her laugh, her voice… I had missed her more than I realized.
"Are you okay? Steve said you were in rehab. What happened?"
