Cassie stayed outside until late in the evening. When she drove to her house later that evening, she found Becky seated in her house. She was all smiles out.
"Hi, Becky…"
"I can sense the excitement in your tone," Becky said, sounding rather nonchalantly. "Did you bug another deal?"
Cassie chuckled. "Well, you too like jokes. I bumped into an old friend today." She said happily. Becky was confused. That was the same day she saw on i********:, that Cassie had turned down the CEO's proposal.
A section of girls praised her in their comments. 'No, not every girl is after papers.' Others went ahead to condemn men who thought that by having a lot of money, it was almost automatic that girls would worship them and accept their proposals. Cassie had proven the contrary.
But even with that Becky was not pleased. She believed there was a way to turn down a proposal and not blow a trumpet. Becky knew Frank. She had met him a few times when she went to see her friend Cassie at work.
"Another man's heart is about to be wrecked!"
"I don't understand." Said Cassie. "So I am now a hearts breaker?"
"Cassie please, you better make it clear to the young man early enough so he does not join the long queue of broken-hearted men!"
Cassie could not believe that her friend was advocating for men. Was it not the men who developed the art of breaking the hearts of women? It was almost as if by breaking a lady's heart, a man earns a title of a hero.
Cassie had not met such a man yet, but she saw it through her friends. There was even a girl who went to the extent of ending her dear life, all because of a certain grandson of Lucifer. She was on campus then and unfortunately knew the boy.
He was certainly a tall, African American man who branded himself the name, Jay-Z. His real name was Wole and he was a poet. Girls loved him and it was during those days that the students in Oxford came up with the abbreviation TDH, which they used for tall, dark and handsome men. Wole was one of them and had girls all over him.
As the rumours had it, Wole was one of the men who could not bear having a girl in his life. His girlfriend caught him red-handed cheating on her, and all he could say was 'it is over.' He never offered any explanation nor try to apologize.
His girlfriend could not bear it and instead embarked on a journey to the land whence no one ever returns. An inquiry was conducted to establish the exact cause of her demise, but when they went to interrogate Wole, they were met with great opposition.
Almost everywhere a section of the students demonstrated with placards on which 'THERE SHALL BE NO ROOM FOR RACISM IN OXFORD" was written. Few of them seemed to have known exactly what had occurred to the girl.
It was then that Cassie decided she was going to live her life as she wanted, and never would she give her heart to any man. She devised her art of living and wanted to make her own independent decisions without anyone interfering.
Even if she was going to date a million men in her lifetime, whose problem was it? If there was anything she despised the most, it was somebody trying to dictate to her how she would relate to men.
Becky's words were not kind and Cassie did not take them kindly either. "You do know that you have overstayed your welcome. So do and return to your house!" She said suddenly. Becky was not moved. She knew her friend from the inside out and she was not the kind of person to hold onto anger for a long time. Cassie stood and started walking towards her room. Becky spoke as she was walking away.
"I hear you. Better tell him that you have decided to stay unmarried for the rest of your life!"
"Just leave my house!" Cassie said as she disappeared into her room.
