I'm not a pure-blooded human?
RUBY
I let go of the paintbrush I was clutching on my thigh. I'm exhausted for the day. I also spent some time concentrating on my art. I intend to sell this painting to a collector. A wealthy businessman paid $5,000 for my abstract painting last month. I wasn't expecting that. Therefore I was surprised that my passion for drawing earned me money.
Many individuals believe that passion cannot be earned. If a person wishes to earn money, they must have proper and stable employment, as my spouse has. Gareth is the owner and CEO of his own company. The Anderson Group of Companies. I am impressed with my husband; he is only 26 years old and manages their family business.
While I am currently battling with my job as an office clerk in a small company, I completed the business administration program. I have a college diploma. But I'm not good at clerical jobs. My heart isn't in this job.
I aspire to be a painter. But my husband didn't believe in my potential and told me that painting would be useless unless I were as talented as Leonardo da Vinci. The legendary painter.
But I'm not going down without a fight. I am confident that the world will appreciate my artistic talent one day.
I am 22 years old, and unlike my husband, I feel like nothing wonderful is happening in my life. He has various interests and accomplishments in his life at the age of 26.
My husband is not only the CEO but also the Alpha King of the Glowing River Pack. He is regarded as the strongest person in Alexandria Woods. Alexandria is where we currently reside. Alexandria Woods is centrally positioned in the city. It stands as the country's capital.
"You are not left behind. You're the Queen Luna of this pack," a rational portion of my thinking said.
That is correct. I'm Queen Luna of the Glowing River Pack. But I'm not happy.
Why?
I am a pure-blooded human, so I am not accepted into the pack. And I was the first human to discover that werewolves existed. I thought it could only be read in movies or books at first, but I found his dark secret when Gareth and I married. And the fact that he's a werewolf!
I was initially perplexed as to why he chose me to be his wife. Being Luna. On the other hand, my husband told me that I was his "fated mate."
I had no idea what he meant at first. People like them had fated mates reserved for them since he is a werewolf. It is stated that there is a "bond" that may be sensed during the first meeting.
My husband felt dizzy and pallid the first time he saw me at the university, according to him. It appears to be jitters.
I recall my first meeting with Gareth. I saw him in the University library while studying for my final exam. I could feel butterflies in my stomach the first moment I lay eyes on him. Even though there was no rainbow inside the library, I felt as if I had seen one.
When I told Gareth about it, he confirmed that this was what the "bond" was all about. That's how it feels. Others are claimed to have rejected their fated mate, but the equivalent is unfathomable pain.
Fortunately, that did not happen to us because I had a crush on him at the time.
Who wouldn't want to be with my husband? He is tall, handsome, and intelligent. He smells nice too!
Qualities I look for in a man.
I assumed Gareth, and I would have a perfect marriage, but it's quite the opposite...
Because my marriage was a living nightmare.
How many times have I wished that it was all a horrible dream? No, it does not. I'm living in the real world. Gareth is my husband. I'm Luna, and I'm in the hub of werewolf territory!
The pack's sole human.
My family was unaware that Gareth was not a full-blooded human. Gareth is a powerful man, and I know that if I tell my family the truth, something awful will happen to them.
I got to my feet and stretched my back. On the table, I noticed a folder.
I scowled. Perhaps Gareth left it. My husband rushed into the office earlier. Maybe he had forgotten he had left his folder in his rush.
I went over the contents of the folder. It appears to be significant. Even though Gareth and I don't get along, and I despise him, the folder's contents appear to be necessary.
I don't want an employee to suffer because I'm furious with my husband.
I decided to deliver this folder to him physically. I was on my way to Anderson Group of Companies within minutes.
I won't be able to stay long. I'll just hand this over to Gareth. I'm sure my hubby despises seeing me in his company. I also don't want to talk to him. The feeling is mutual.
I ran into Gareth's secretary. This woman did not even acknowledge my presence. She even lifted her eyebrows at me as if I were not the pack's Queen Luna!
"The Alpha has no scheduled meeting with you, Mrs. Anderson," she stated gravely.
All Glowing River Packs treat me like this. Nobody refers to me as Queen Luna. I don't like being addressed in that manner. But it hurts my feelings since they still refuse to recognize a pure-blooded human as their Luna.
Is it my fault I'm Gareth's "fated mate"?
"Don't be concerned. I didn't come here looking for him. I only want to drop this folder. It looks important. He left it off at our house. Could you please hand it over to him?"
"Sure, Mrs. Anderson, "
"I appreciate it,"
I have no desire to inform my husband that I am now on his company premises. I'm going back to our house now.
I was about to enter the elevator when I noticed Stacey Adams and Mrs. Mariah Anderson. The mother of my husband.
I scowled. I knew Mariah didn't like me, but I had no idea she was so close to Stacey. Gareth's ex-girlfriend.
Should I still be intrigued? Gareth's family adores Stacey. Stacey is a Gamma in the pack and a pure-blooded werewolf.
Stacey and Mrs. Anderson appear to be having a serious conversation.
I'm not the type of person who enjoys eavesdropping. That is something my parents taught me not to do.
But I'm not sure. Something is driving me to follow them this time.
I watched them leave by the fire exit. They chose not to use the elevator.
I followed them to the fire exit and heard their footsteps as they went to the building's rooftop.
My heart is thumping quickly. I'm nervous.
I tried to be cautious because they may smell me at any time. Because they are werewolves, their senses are acute.
Mrs. Anderson had a look around. She spoke just until she was sure that no one else was around. I hid behind the closed door.
"I can hardly believe it!" Mariah Anderson yelled.
"Aunt, spill the tea. I'm dying to find out!" Stacey appears agitated.
"You won't believe it... but…”
“But?”
It appears to be a significant revelation for Mariah Anderson because she still looks to be having difficulty breathing.
"Calm down, aunt. Relax. We all have time,"
“Relax! No way, Stacey. I can't unwind. We can't unwind!" She screamed.
"You are free to tell me, aunt..."
Stacey can call Mrs. Anderson aunt while slapping my face when I call her aunt.
"I discovered that woman's deepest secret!"
“Who?”
"Goodness, Stacey, where is your brain today? You know who I'm referring to! Ruby! Gareth's wife!"
Stacey sighed and rolled her eyes. "Oh, that b***h. What's the matter with her, aunt?"
My heart is racing so quickly. I don't know why I'm shaking so terribly despite the fact that they can't see or smell me.
"Ruby is not what we think it is. My men found she isn't a pure-blooded human,"
I restrained myself from panting.
"Is she not pure-blooded? If so, what exactly is she?" Stacey wondered.
Mariah gave Stacey a stern stare. "She's a pure-blooded werewolf! She's just like us!"
“What?! That's not possible!"
To avoid making a noise, I put my two palms in my mouth.
"My men never let me down. They were always true and accurate. I'm not sure what's wrong with her and why she can't shift. But one thing is certain. She's a werewolf by blood!"
"Oh, my goodness... We're screwed,"
"You are right. Once she discovers she is a pure-blooded werewolf, the victory is on her side. Her position as Queen Luna simply validated everything. And I'm sure my son will be relieved to realize she's like us. You have no chance to win back my son if that happens!"
My tears seemed to have their own thoughts and landed on my cheeks on their own. I'm not sure how I will process anything I've heard so far.
"That is why we must plan for what we discovered. We have to kill Ruby before she realizes she truly deserves to be Luna."
Stacey made no hesitation. She smiled and bobbed her head. "You are correct, aunt. We must get rid of Ruby."
Only now in my life have I experienced extreme fear.
