CHAPTER ONE: THE GIRL WHO HATED HIM
Lilly Anderson had always believed that hard work, determination, and self-confidence were the keys to success. She was an intelligent, independent young woman who had worked hard to secure admission into Westbridge University. Coming from a family that had experienced financial difficulties, Lilly understood the value of every opportunity she received. She was determined to make her family proud and build a successful future for herself.
On her first day at the university, Lilly woke up late and hurriedly prepared for her morning lecture. Carrying her books and bag, she rushed through the crowded campus without paying attention to the people around her. Unfortunately, she collided with a tall young man, causing her books to scatter across the ground.
The young man was Leo Williams, one of the wealthiest and most popular students at Westbridge University. Known for his handsome appearance, expensive clothes, and arrogant attitude, Leo was accustomed to people admiring him and doing whatever they could to gain his attention.
Instead of apologizing properly, Leo looked at Lilly with amusement and called her Princess. Lilly immediately disliked his attitude. She told him that being wealthy did not give him the right to treat people as if they were beneath him.
Leo was surprised. Most people were careful around him because of his family's influence, but Lilly spoke to him without fear. Their disagreement attracted the attention of other students, leaving Leo both embarrassed and strangely interested in the outspoken girl.
Lilly walked away, convinced that Leo Williams was exactly the kind of person she wanted to avoid.
However, neither of them knew that their paths were about to become closely connected.
CHAPTER TWO: THE PARTNERSHIP FROM HELL
During a lecture, Professor Adams announced that the students would work in pairs on an important research project. The project would contribute significantly to their final grades, and students were encouraged to choose partners who could help them achieve excellent results.
Lilly hoped to work with Grace, her best friend, who understood her personality and shared her determination to succeed.
Unfortunately, Professor Adams had already assigned the pairs.
When Lilly heard that she would be working with Leo Williams, she thought there had been a mistake. Leo, sitting comfortably at the back of the classroom, smiled when he heard their names announced together.
He jokingly called Lilly his Princess again, irritating her immediately.
Lilly insisted that they establish clear boundaries. She would not tolerate lateness, laziness, or arrogance, and she expected Leo to contribute equally to the project.
Leo pretended to be offended, claiming that he was perfectly capable of doing the work without being instructed by anyone.
Their first meeting in the university library quickly turned into an argument. Lilly arrived with a detailed plan, while Leo appeared several minutes late and acted as though the situation did not matter.
She accused him of taking the assignment lightly. He accused her of being too serious about everything.
Despite their differences, they eventually began working. Lilly soon discovered that Leo was intelligent and capable, although he often hid his abilities behind his careless attitude.
Leo, on the other hand, realized that Lilly was not merely stubborn. She was disciplined, ambitious, and passionate about her future.
Although they continued arguing, their partnership forced them to spend more time together than either had expected.
CHAPTER THREE: THE FIRST CRACK IN HIS ARMOR
As the days passed, Lilly began noticing things about Leo that did not fit the image he presented to the world.
One afternoon, she found him sitting alone outside a classroom after receiving a phone call. His usual smile had disappeared, and his expression revealed frustration and sadness.
When Lilly approached him, he quickly pretended that nothing was wrong.
She did not press him for answers, but she noticed how his shoulders relaxed when she changed the subject and began discussing their research project.
Later, Lilly learned from Daniel, Leo's closest friend, that Leo's life was not as perfect as it appeared. His father, Richard Williams, was a powerful businessman who expected Leo to follow in his footsteps. Leo had grown up surrounded by wealth but had rarely felt free to make decisions without considering his father's expectations.
His parents' marriage also carried years of emotional distance, leaving Leo uncertain about what genuine love looked like.
Meanwhile, Leo began paying attention to Lilly's life. He noticed how carefully she managed her money, how she helped struggling classmates, and how she never used her circumstances as an excuse to abandon her dreams.
One evening, Leo offered to drive her home after a late study session. Lilly initially refused, unwilling to depend on someone she barely trusted. However, after he insisted that he simply wanted to help, she accepted.
During the drive, they had their first peaceful conversation. Leo learned about Lilly's family and her determination to create a better future. Lilly discovered that beneath his confidence was a young man who desperately wanted to be valued for something other than his surname.
For the first time, she wondered whether she had judged him too quickly.
CHAPTER FOUR: A FRIENDSHIP NEITHER PLANNED
Their research partnership gradually became less painful.
Leo started arriving on time, while Lilly learned that allowing someone to help her did not mean losing her independence. They developed a routine of studying together in the library, sharing meals between lectures, and exchanging playful insults.
Grace noticed the change and teased Lilly about spending so much time with Leo. Lilly denied having romantic feelings for him, insisting that she was simply fulfilling her academic responsibilities.
Daniel also noticed Leo's transformation. The once-distant young man had begun smiling more often and showing interest in activities that did not involve his family's business.
One afternoon, the four friends attended a university event. Lilly wore a simple but beautiful dress, and Leo found himself admiring her throughout the evening.
When another student insulted Lilly's background, Leo defended her. Rather than using his wealth to intimidate the student, he calmly explained that a person's value could not be measured by money.
Lilly was surprised by his response.
Later that evening, she thanked him. Leo jokingly claimed that he had defended her because nobody else was allowed to annoy his Princess.
She rolled her eyes, but this time she laughed.
Their friendship continued to deepen. They began sharing personal fears and childhood memories. Lilly admitted that she was afraid of disappointing her family. Leo confessed that he sometimes felt trapped by the expectations placed upon him.
Neither wanted to admit it, but their connection was becoming more important than their original assig
