The Moment Everything Changed
The Moment Everything Changed
The acceptance letter had felt like a promise.
Kitty stood at the front gates of Blackthorne College, the most elite university in the state, her heart racing as she took in the towering stone buildings and ivy-covered walls. This was where futures were made. Where legacies were built.
And she had earned her place here.
Her blue eyes scanned the campus, sunlight catching in them as students hurried past. She could feel the attention almost immediately — curious glances, double takes, whispers. She was used to being noticed, but today felt different.
Today felt like destiny was watching.
She adjusted the strap on her bag and stepped forward.
That was when she felt it.
A gaze.
Heavy. Intentional.
Her breath slowed as she turned her head — and saw him.
Blaze.
He leaned casually against a black motorcycle near the curb, boots planted firmly on the pavement. Tattoos covered his forearms, intricate and dark, telling stories she suddenly wanted to read. His long hair brushed his shoulders, slightly untamed, framing a face that was both beautiful and dangerous.
But it was his eyes that caught her.
They weren’t just looking at her.
They were studying her.
The world around them blurred. Conversations faded. Even the breeze seemed to still.
He pushed off the motorcycle and walked toward her with unhurried confidence. Each step felt deliberate. Controlled. Powerful.
Kitty’s pulse quickened — not from fear, but from something hotter. Something that coiled low in her stomach and spread warmth through her veins.
He stopped just close enough for her to feel the heat radiating from him.
“First day?” His voice was deep, smooth, carrying a quiet intensity.
She lifted her chin slightly. “Is it that obvious?”
A slow smile tugged at his lips — not cocky, not mocking. Appreciative.
“Only because you’re looking at everything like it’s about to change your life.”
“And what if it is?”
His gaze dropped briefly to her lips before returning to her eyes. The small movement sent a spark through her body.
“Then you picked the right place,” he said softly. “Things change fast here.”
The air between them tightened — thick with tension neither of them acknowledged out loud.
She should have looked away.
She didn’t.
Instead, she stepped a fraction closer, close enough to catch the scent of leather and something darker — something that felt like midnight and secrets.
“And you?” she asked. “Do you change things too?”
For a moment, his expression shifted — something deeper flickering behind his eyes.
“Only when I have to,” he replied.
A group of students brushed past them, breaking the spell just slightly — but not enough.
Not nearly enough.
Because when their hands accidentally brushed, the contact wasn’t small.
It was fire.
Her breath hitched. His fingers curled instinctively around hers, just for a second — just long enough to feel the connection. The awareness. The pull.
He let go slowly.
But his eyes never left hers.
“Welcome to Blackthorne, Kitty.”
The way he said her name — like it belonged to him — sent a shiver down her spine.
And in that moment, she understood something dangerous.
Getting into this college might have been fate.
Meeting Blaze?
That felt inevitable.
And neither of them had any idea how intense it was about to become.
