Chapter 5
Nick adjusted the ends of his cravat as he walked into the parlor to wait as his sisters finished preparing themselves for the latest ball, just as he had for the past five nights. Tonight, however, his usual chair was occupied.
After their first ball, Lucy had taken to being anywhere except the parlor in the evenings, but now she was in his chair.
“Here to see us off, Lu?” Nick asked cheerfully, although he knew she had something else on her mind. “We’ve missed you for the last few nights.”
“Five nights.”

“And to hear Charlotte and Violet talk, there’ll be no end to it anytime soon.”
