Chapter3-Escape and retaliation

Cherry’s instincts kicked in as she pulled her contact to safety, narrowly avoiding the bullets that tore through the café. They scrambled out the back door, running through the alleyways as the sounds of pursuit echoed behind them. Cherry knew they wouldn’t be safe for long. They found refuge in an abandoned building, their breaths heavy with fear and adrenaline. Cherry turned to her contact, eyes blazing with determination. "This isn’t over. We need to strike back before they find us again." But before her contact could respond, Cherry’s phone buzzed with a new message. It was another unknown number, but this time, the message was different. It was a video—a video of her siblings, bound and gagged, with a timer counting down in the corner of the screen. The message was clear: Cherry had 24 hours to surrender herself, or she would lose everything she held dear. Cherry was becoming Desperate, but she couldn’t afford to lose her composure now. Cherry’s hands trembled as she watched the video of her siblings. The timer ticked ominously, a grim reminder that time was running out. Her mind raced, trying to figure out who could be behind this and how to save her family without falling into the trap. She glanced at her contact, whose face was covered with fear. “We don’t have time to waste,” Cherry said, her voice steady despite the storm brewing inside her. “We need to find out who’s doing this, and fast.” Her contact, a man named Adrian who had once been close to Daniel’s business dealings, nodded. “There’s someone who might know. He’s an old associate of Daniel’s—a hacker named Leo. He specializes in information retrieval and could help us trace the source of that video.” Cherry hesitated, unsure if she could trust Adrian, but with her siblings’ lives at stake, she had no choice. “Let’s find him.” They raced against the clock, navigating the underground network of contacts that Adrian knew from his shady past. Finally, they located Leo in a dingy basement apartment filled with computer monitors, wires, and the hum of electronic equipment. Leo, a lean man with piercing blue eyes, looked them over warily. “You’re making a serious demand, Cherry. This kind of job is dangerous and expensive. Whoever sent that video isn’t playing games.” “I don’t care about the cost,” Cherry snapped. “I just need you to trace the video and help me find my siblings.” Leo nodded, then got to work. As he tapped away at his keyboard, Cherry’s anxiety grew. Minutes felt like hours as the timer in her mind continued to tick down. Finally, Leo leaned back in his chair with this ugly expression on his face. “I’ve got a trace,” he said. “The video was sent from a remote server, but the trail leads back to someone you know well. It’s Victoria.” Cherry’s heart sank. “Victoria? Why would she do this? We were never close, but this…” “It gets worse,” Leo continued. “Victoria isn’t working alone. She’s teamed up with a group that Daniel was once involved with—a powerful cartel that uses blackmail and violence to get what they want. They’re holding your siblings as leverage to make sure you don’t expose them.” Cherry felt the ground shift beneath her. She had suspected Victoria’s involvement, but discovering that there is a cartel changed everything. The stakes were higher than she’d ever imagined. “What do they want?” she asked, dreading the answer. “They want the evidence you have against Daniel and his associates,” Adrian said. “They know you’ve been gathering it, and they can’t afford to let you expose and bring them down.” Cherry’s mind whirled with the implications. If she handed over the evidence, she might save her siblings, but the cartel would go free, and more lives would most likely be at risk. But if she didn’t, her siblings… “There has to be another way,” she muttered, thinking aloud. Leo turned back to his screens. “There might be. If we can locate where they’re holding your siblings, we could stage a rescue. It’s risky, but it’s your best shot,” he said. Cherry looked at Adrian, whose face was set in a determined expression. “Are you with me on this?” “Of course,” he replied. “We can’t let them win.” With Leo’s help, Cherry and Adrian pinpointed the location where her siblings were being held—a remote warehouse on the outskirts of the city. As they drove toward the location, the tension in the car became intense. Cherry’s thoughts were filled with a mixture of fear, determination, and hope. She can't give any chance to failure. They arrived at the warehouse just after midnight. The building loomed ahead, dark and imposing. Cherry and Adrian armed themselves with the tools Leo had provided—electronic jammers to disrupt the security systems and a detailed blueprint of the warehouse. As they approached the building, Cherry’s heart pounded in her chest. The plan was simple but tensed with danger: disable the security, find her siblings, and rescue them before the cartel could react. But as they crept closer, things quickly turned out worse. Inside the warehouse, Cherry and Adrian encountered more resistance than they had imagined. Guards patrolled the area, and the place was heavily fortified. As they navigated the darkened corridors, Cherry could hear faint voices—her siblings, no doubt—but they were still too far to reach. Suddenly, the sound of footsteps echoed nearby. Cherry froze, signaling to Adrian to hide. A pair of guards appeared, their conversation revealing more than they intended. “Boss says we move them out by sunrise,” one guard said. “Too risky to keep them here much longer.” “Yeah, but what about the girl? You think she’ll actually show up?” the other guard replied. “She doesn’t have a choice. She’ll come, and when she does, we’ll be ready.” Cherry’s heart skipped a beat. They knew she was coming. The element of surprise was gone, as she realised they were walking into a trap. She motioned to Adrian to follow her as they slipped into a nearby storage room to regroup. “We can’t turn back now,” Cherry whispered, her voice laced with urgency. “But we need a new plan and strategy.” Adrian nodded, his mind racing. “We can’t go in guns blazing. We’ll have to create a diversion—something to draw the guards away from your siblings so we can get them out.” Cherry’s eyes scanned the room until they landed on a set of gas cylinders. An idea sparked. “We set those off, create confusion, and use the confusion to get them out.” Adrian grinned, admiration in his eyes. “That could work. Let’s do it.” They quickly set the plan in motion. Cherry rigged the cylinders with a timer, giving them just enough time to reach her siblings before the place erupted into confusion. As they moved through the warehouse, the sense of impending danger grew. Finally, they reached the room where her siblings were held. Cherry’s heart swelled with relief as she saw their frightened faces. She rushed to them, quickly untying their restraints. “It’s okay,” she whispered. “I’m here. We’re getting out.” But as they made their way back through the warehouse, the explosion rocked the building, sending debris flying and alarms blaring. The guards were thrown into disarray, but the way out was now blocked by flames and falling rubble. Trapped, Cherry knew they had to find another way out, fast. She led her siblings and Adrian deeper into the building, hoping to find an alternate exit before the cartel closed in. As they rounded a corner, they came face-to-face with Victoria, a cold smile on her lips. She was flanked by two armed men, their guns aimed at Cherry and her group. “Going somewhere?” Victoria taunted, her voice dripping with malice. Cherry’s heart pounded in her chest as she realized they were out of options. But she refused to give up. Not now. Cherry’s mind raced, desperate for a way out. Victoria’s eyes gleamed with triumph, and Cherry knew that any move she made could end in disaster. But there was one thing Victoria didn’t know—Cherry still had a trick up her sleeve. Without warning, Cherry triggered the second set of explosives she had planted, causing another series of explosions to rock the building. The force knocked Victoria and her men off balance, giving Cherry and her group the split-second advantage they needed. “Run!” Cherry yelled, pulling her siblings and Adrian toward a service door she had noticed earlier. They burst through the door just as more explosions shook the warehouse, the heat from the flames searing their skin. They didn’t stop running until they were clear of the building, the sounds of confusion fading behind them. But as they reached the safety of the night, Cherry knew it wasn’t over. Victoria would come after them with everything she had, and the cartel wouldn’t let them go easily. They reached a safe house Leo had set up, where they could catch their breath. But Cherry knew she couldn’t rest until this was finished once and for all. “Victoria won’t stop,” Cherry said, turning to Adrian. “We need to take her down, along with the cartel. It’s the only way.” Adrian nodded. “We’ll have to be very smart about it. We’ll need allies—people who can help us fight back.” As they planned their next move, Cherry couldn’t shake the feeling that the final showdown was approaching. The tension in the air was thick, and she knew that the battle ahead would determine not just her fate, but the fate of everyone she cared about. But she was ready. She had faced betrayal, danger, and the loss of everything she had built. Now, it was time to fight back—and this time, she wouldn’t stop until she had destroyed the cartel, exposed the truth, and reclaimed her life. With Victoria and the cartel closing in, Cherry knew she needed more than just courage to take them down. She needed a plan—and she needed allies who could help her execute it. As she sat in the safe house, surrounded by her siblings and Adrian, an idea began to form. “Leo,” she said, turning to the hacker who had been instrumental in helping her so far. “Can you get in touch with any of Daniel’s former associates? People who might have a grudge against Victoria or the cartel?” Leo nodded, already typing on his laptop. “I know a few who might be willing to help, especially if it means taking down Victoria. She’s made a lot of enemies over the years.” As Leo worked, Adrian sat beside Cherry, his hand lightly resting on hers. The tension between them had been growing ever since they reconnected, and Cherry couldn’t deny the pull she felt toward him. But with everything going on, she couldn’t afford to let her emotions cloud her judgment. “Are you okay?” Adrian asked softly, his eyes searching hers. Cherry gave a small nod, though she wasn’t entirely sure it was true. “I will be. Once this is all over.” Adrian squeezed her hand gently. “We’re going to get through this, Cherry. And when we do, we’ll have a fresh start—away from all of this confusion.”
