Chapter1- Shattered illusions
"You think I wouldn't know? You've been going about, sleeping with different men," Daniel's voice roared through the penthouse, his accusations sharp as double edged sword. Cherry's eyes narrowed, a mixture of anger and disbelief flashing across her face. "You've been fed with lies, Daniel. They're all just—lies. If anyone's the culprit here, it's you, playing the victim while you’re the one at fault." Her voice quivered with suppressed anger as she grabbed her coat and headed for the door. "Don't ever dare to walk out on me, Cherry! If you're so clean, why are you running?" Daniel’s voice followed her, filled with desperation. She stopped and turned, her eyes shining with unshed tears. "Why would I lie, Daniel? I’ve seen you, with my own eyes, multiple times. That model, Betty—or whatever her name is—who just signed with your company? What about Victoria?" Her voice cracked as she slammed the door behind her, tears finally spilling over. As Cherry stormed down the hallway, she couldn’t shake the memories that rushed back—how perfect their relationship had seemed, how effortlessly Daniel had fit into her life. He was the man she had always dreamed of—kind, gentle, and caring. Never had he raised his voice at her, never had they fought. Their love had been like a fairytale, complete with romantic getaways, breakfast in bed, and spontaneous gestures of affection. But now, those memories feel like a cruel joke. Was this really the same Daniel she had married? Had he always been this way, shaded by a mask of charm and tenderness? Or had something changed? Cherry cleaned her tears, her mind racing. The universe seemed to have turned against her, tearing apart the home they had built together. The nagging, the raised voices, the constant tension—it all felt like a nightmare she couldn’t wake up from. Back in the penthouse, Daniel sank into a chair, his hands trembling. The guilt of his actions weighed heavily on him, but he couldn’t bring himself to admit the truth. But he rather, lashed out blames on Cherry for things she had no control over. "You haven’t given me a child, Cherry. How am I supposed to feel like a man, like a father, when you won’t even talk to me about it?" he had shouted at her earlier, his words cutting deep. Cherry had tried to control her tears then, her voice thick with emotion. "The doctor said there’s nothing wrong with me, Daniel. You know that. But you don’t make love to me anymore. You only see me as a tool for your needs, nothing more." She had choked on the words, the pain in her heart so severe and almost unbearable. The confrontation brought back old time memories, a time before money, the power, and the endless complications that came with it. Cherry had grown up in a modest family, the eldest of three siblings. After their parents’ tragic deaths, she assumed the responsibility of caring for her younger brother and sister. Life had been hard, but she had persevered, running a small fashion boutique that had gradually gained recognition. One morning, as she prepared for work, a letter had arrived at her shop, an invitation to participate in a prestigious fashion week. It had been the break she’d been waiting for, the opportunity to showcase her designs to the world. Her joy had been contagious, spreading to her employees and her siblings. But the excitement of those moments were now a distant memory, now overshadowed by the dark cloud that had settled over her life. Cherry recalled the first time her part crossed with Daniel’s, at that fashion event. He had been charming, with a magnetic presence that drew everyone in. They had hit it off instantly, and soon, he was showering her with attention and gifts, whisking her away to luxurious places. It had felt like a dream come true—until the cracks started to show. As Cherry delved deeper into her memories, she realized that the signs had always been there. Daniel’s late nights at the office, the secretive phone calls, the unexplained absences—they had all been clues she had intentionally ignored. She had wanted so desperately to believe in their love, to hold on to the man she thought Daniel was. But the truth was undeniable now. Daniel had been seeing other women, using his wealth and power to hide his infidelities. And now, as the pieces of the puzzle fell into place, Cherry knew she had to take a decision—stay and fight for a marriage built on lies and deceit, or walk away and reclaim her life. As she stood outside, the cold wind biting at her skin, Cherry made a silent vow. She would no longer be a doll in Daniel’s game. She would uncover the truth, no matter how painful, and decide her own future. Resolved to regain control, Cherry began to investigate into Daniel's business dealings. What she uncovered was shocking—a trail of deceit that went far beyond his affairs. Daniel had been involved in illegal activities, using his company as a front for money laundering and shady investments. The model, Betty, wasn’t just another affair; she was a major player in his schemes. Armed with this knowledge, Cherry decided to play her own game. She reached out to an old friend, a powerful lawyer with connections in the industry, and started to build her case against Daniel. It was a dangerous move, but Cherry knew she had nothing left to lose. As the days passed, Daniel began to suspect Cherry’s newfound boldness and confidence. He tried to tighten his grip on her, but she was always one step ahead. The tension between them reached a boiling point, with each confrontation more explosive than the last. The height of it was at a lavish party thrown by one of Daniel’s business associates. Cherry arrived, dressed to slayl, her presence commanding attention. Daniel was there, too, his eyes narrowing as he watched her from across the room. They met on the balcony, the city skyline twinkling behind them. "What are you up to, Cherry?" Daniel’s voice was low, dangerous. Cherry smiled, a glint of steel in her eyes. "You’ll find out soon enough, Daniel. You’re not the only one who can play dirty." Before Daniel could respond, Cherry dropped the bombshell—she had evidence of his illegal activities, and unless he wanted to spend the rest of his life in prison, he would agree to her terms. The shock on Daniel’s face was priceless, but Cherry not having fun. She had won this battle, but the war was far from over. As she walked away, leaving Daniel reeling, Cherry felt a strange sense of peace. The love they once had was gone, replaced by something colder, sharper—but she was okay with that. She had found her strength, her resolve, and she wasn’t going to let anyone take that away from her.
