Maria's body was carried out of the courtroom and placed in a catafalque and a small iron cross was placed on it, right over her chest. Pedro, now sad and devastated, wept and hugged his wife for the last time, and they set out for the funeral accompanied by two soldier monks to his village of Mancha with their children to bury her.
