“What are you doing here?” she squeaked as she stared in shock. How in the hell had this women beat her here. She was the queen of all vampires, Grace. Chance’s mother. He had to have called her. Vampires were fast but not that fast.
“Well young lady when my son called me to tell me he had found his other half and that she was set to wed another…..man I did the only logical thing I could. I came to stop the wedding. Why else would I have come all this way?” Grace, the vampire queen said looking calmly at Sam.
“Well I’m not sorry I don’t believe this.” Sam’s dad said from the other side of his giant oak desk. Of course he didn’t he had to much to gain from it all.
“Just why do you think my son or I would lie about something like that. Vampires don’t like wolfs……so why the hell would he say this if it wasn’t true?” Grace replied remaining calm still. Sam was surprised at how calm she could remain while her dad kept showing his ass.
“Because it was your mom that had that damn curse put in place and my great grad father was the cause so you don’t want the Coalition family to return to power.” Her dad replied grinding his teeth. Sam could tell that this was getting under his skin. Normally he was the calm one. Sam found it slightly funny that this woman of all people was the person to get under his skin.
Grace chucked and answered “and why dose your family’s power matter at all to me? All I want is my only son to be happy and to be happy he say’s he wants Sam by his side.”
“Oh don’t play coy its not becoming of you. You and I both know that if my family can have a male become alpha again the curse can be broken.” Sam’s dad answered smugly. Sam was surprised he could have just told her that and she never would have fought him. Never ran away. She want’s her future kids to find their mates.
“Why on earth didn’t you just tell me that? I never would have fought….never would have ran. All you had to do was be honest and you couldn’t even do that!” Sam ended up yelling at her dad. She never would have ran into Chance. She never would have found him or known that he was her mate. Grace looked at both Sam and her dad in shock.
“Well this just got awkward. So I’ll go and I will give you one week to have Samantha at my house to spend some quality time with Chance. Just know Sam you do have a choice when it comes to Chance you will be queen but you do not have to marry him. You can be his friend and find your own husband. To vampires other half dose not mean mate unlike wolfs we don’t force marriage.” Grace said as she moved to leave. Sam couldn’t bring herself to move. She just stood there staring at her dad until she heard the front door close.
“Why didn’t you just tell me? Why didn’t you trust me? I would have done it. I wouldn’t have thrown a fit dad. All you had to do was trust me but you couldn’t even do that. Why?” Sam whispered feeling all the hurt at once. She thought her parents trusted her but apparently not. They had never lied to her until now.
“We thought that we couldn’t tell you. We were told that it could affect the possibility of the cure. Trust me it was the last thing we wanted to keep from you but we have since then found out that it won’t.” Her dad said staring into space. Sam could tell that he was thinking hard about something.
“What are you thinking? Do you see a way out of this?” Sam said hoping that he would at least give her that.
“This could still work. You can be Chance’s friend and still marry Conner. You can be luna and Queen. Sam please understand what this can be to all wolfs. We can return to the way we are supposed to be!” Her dad answered. Sam could hear the excitement in his voice. She could do it she could help all of wolfs. She didn’t know what to say. Could she really resist Chance? She had kissed him within five minutes of meeting him and she couldn’t deny if she had the chance she would have slept with him. To top it all of she was the big v word. So why was she so willing to give that to Chance?
“I don’t know if I can do that dad. I…….I think I love Chance. I don’t understand why. And I really don’t understand why the queen is willing to break that law just because her son says that I am his other half.” Sam replied. She was so confused. She sat down in the chair. At least now her dad was being civil and talking to her instead of demanding she do things.
“The vampires are in control, you know that Sammy. They have been since the alliance with the witches was formed. But we can get that control back in 30 years if you will just marry Conner and have one male child. That’s all you have to do. I don’t care if you go behind his back and f**k Chance the whole time. Just do this for all wolf kind.” her dad said using the nick name he hadn’t called her in forever. She could hear the pleading in his voice even if she couldn't believe what he just said. Cheating on your arraigned mate was punishable by death but so was being with a vampire for any reason. So either way she went she was dead.
“Choose Chance. I need Chance. He is ours. You can’t marry Conner I will drive you insane if you try.” Sam’s wolf whispered in her ear. Sam couldn’t think straight. She needed to be alone.
“Dad I need time to think. I am so confused. I don’t know what to do. Both are punishable by my death. I won’t lie I want Chance and not Conner. I can’t explain it. I don’t even know Chance.” Sam answered.
“I know this is hard so ill allow you the time but remember Grace gave us a week so that’s your time limit if you choose Chance. Here are the keys to the lake house and the keys to the car. Go and use your time wisely.” Her dad said reaching into his top desk drawer and handing her keys. Sam got up and went to pack a bag. What the hell was she going to do.
As she went to get into the car she spotted him what the hell was he doing here? Hadn’t he done enough.
“What the hell do you want?” Sam said throwing her bag into the trunk and slamming it shut. She turned and ended up two inches from Chance’s face. She couldn’t help it she jerked back. He was so sexy. He leaned down and kissed her. She kissed back. He deepened the kiss rapping his hand in her long hair. She slid her hand up the back of his shirt. She didn’t know why she couldn’t seem to control herself around him.
“Take me with you. Please. I need you right now.” Chance whispered coming up for air. She wanted to say yes so bad but she knew if she did she would choose him. She felt that she needed him to. She knew that she loved him. She didn’t know how she knew but she knew without any doubt.
“Chance I need time. I have a choice to make and I need a clear head to do it. You just fog things up for me.” she whispered looking up at him. God why the hell couldn’t she just say no. That all it would take she somehow knew that he wouldn’t force her to do anything she didn’t want to. God he was so much better than Conner.
“Babe you don’t need to marry Conner to break the curse. I know I shouldn’t have spied but I couldn’t help it. I can talk to the witch she will break the curse for me. Your dad needs to realize just how close vampires and witches have become over the years.” Chance whispered back to her leaning down and kissing her on her neck. Sam leaned her head back giving him better access. She needed him like she needed air. Could it be true? Is that all it would take?
“I need time Chance I’m so sorry. I know I love you and I know you love me even thought its crazy. We barely know each other but I know you feel it to but how do I know that what your telling me is the truth?” It all rushed out before Sam could stop it. She needed to know that he could protect her like he said he could.
“Come with me instead of going to the lake house. Ill show you. Just give me a shot.” Chance practically begged. Sam had a feeling that if she kept denying him he would get on his knees. She had always dreamed of this kind of love so why was it so hard to just say yes.
“You have twenty four hours then I need some time. That’s the best I can do. I need this and I know you can understand.” Sam answered motioning for him to get in the car. As she ducked into the car she could see the look of disapproval on her dads face through his office window. How long had he been standing there? She found that for some reason she didn’t really care what her dad thought anymore. It was oddly satisfying. She turned and got in the car next to Chance. She looked at him and all she felt was what she had spent her whole life dreaming of.
“Where to?” She said and she knew without a doubt right then that she would choose Chance. She just wanted to try to save the rest of wolf kind before she let him know that.
“Hear this will make the drive easy and we can listen to music and talk while you drive. We need to go see Katrina, the head witch. If I only have one day to show you how much I care I want to start as soon as you’ll allow me to and it is going to be a long drive so you might want to get some snacks before we go.” Chance said as he pulled an aux cord out and started to hook up his phone to the radio. She was surprised when Five Finger Death Punch started to play through the speakers. She smiled and put the car in gear and drove away hardly looking back. She would save all wolfs and be with Chance. She would never need or want Conner.
