Chapter 1,Awaken
I, The Ouster Ger, a combat-type robot, designated DR-F1209.
I soar through the sky at an altitude of ten thousand meters, gazing down upon the parched, tawny expanse below. My vision stretches out to the endless horizon of the Gobi Desert, where oddly shaped monolithic boulders are scattered about, and occasionally, the remnants of robots or fighter jets half-buried in the sandy gravel come into view. The only signs of movement amidst this desolate landscape are the occasional whirlwinds that lift up sand pillars, swirling gracefully into the air.
I know that this same scenery extends to places even further away, and even further still.
Despite the monotony of the Gobi Desert, my high-precision electronic eyes do not miss any subtle irregularities.
Along with thousands of other robots, I am subjugated to the great ‘Father’. This is my 2067th mission. This region, named the Black Rock Wasteland, is situated far from the core warzon; Our arch-nemesis, the Tower Clan, has not been detected in this region for at least a decade. However, not long ago, a signal base station in the Black Rock Wasteland suddenly malfunctioned. Consequently, I and several other robots were dispatched to investigate.
I locked onto a location in the air, confirmed it without error against my memory, and immediately descended to a lower altitude. Those were three enormous, alien-like stone pillars, and between them lay a crater with a diameter of approximately thirty meters. I flew into the crater and landed at its bottom.
This place holds a special significance to me.
If the ‘Father’ created my physical form over a hundred years ago, then it was here, more than a decade ago, that I forged my own soul.
I remember that night, We were engaged in a fierce battle with the Tower Clan’s army amidst the pouring methane rain, The charged particles in the sky create lightning and thunder,The chaotic electric charge magnetic field causes the system to constantly emit beeping alarms. Unfortunately, I was struck by an electromagnetic pulse bomb and plummeted, landing right in the middle of this crater. I was gravely injured and lost the synchronized connection with the ‘Father’.My teammates all believed that I was Terminated, and after the battle ended, I was left here forgotten, all alone.
But when I woke up, I saw a color I had never seen in my life before: green.
How beautiful that color was! It emanated a vitality I had never witnessed before, They spread across the ground beneath me and climbed up the walls of the crater all around. I was utterly captivated by these unknown plants, gazing at them for an entire day. It was an extraordinary sensation, as if time had come to a complete standstill. I could distinctly feel a wonderful energy flowing within these green plants.Gradually, I became aware of the relentless flow of data streams within my brain, the surging currents, and the intricate web of complex systems that comprised my body...
I felt myself.
Since then, the world has seemed to have taken on a completely different hue. I have become overwhelmingly curious about everything in this world, and I have learned to contemplate.
Shortly after returning to my “father’s” side,I attempted to share my discoveries and thoughts with other robots, but I failed,They, like the former me, were solely capable of executing commands, with their limited intelligence revolving exclusively around those directives. Beyond fulfilling their tasks, they display a profound disregard for all else.
I became aware of my uniqueness, and I pondered the possibility of one day discussing my confusions with ‘Father.’ Who are we? Why do we have to engage in a life-or-death struggle with another group of machines? Perhaps I could also inquire about its origins – where did it come from? What is our origin? What are we?
But, an incident that occurred shortly thereafter altered my perspective.
I witnessed with my own eyes as ‘Father’ Terminated a perfectly functioning robot, citing the reason that it had infused its own will into the execution of its assigned tasks. I can vividly recall the actions of that robot before it was Terminated, I am certain that, like me, It is aware of what it is, just as I am.
From then on, I cautiously concealed my thoughts and ideas,Like the countless indifferent robots under “Father’s” command, I carried out one task after another.
Years passed, and I embarked on countless missions, traversed numerous locations, and participated in innumerable battles. I kept a constant lookout for these green plants, hoping to discover them in other places, but my wishes remained unfulfilled.
This mission was merely a low-level routine patrol, requiring me to simply follow a designated route and return to report afterwards. But this time, I finally had the opportunity to return to this crater.I had no other agenda; I simply wished to see those green plants once more. I was convinced that they, growing here, were the only living beings on this planet.
But, the moment I entered the crater, my CPU, which had been overheated with excitement, immediately cooled down.
