- 16 -Our drive home from Aggie’s was painfully silent, except for the snuffled breathing of Woofie from the back seat. While Mother sneezed periodically, she put on a stoic front, not complaining about dog dander or other irritants. Problem was, Mother had hit a nerve about the potential of my being pregnant and the timing of George’s disappearance. Still, he had to come back to the studio at some point, didn’t he? He would not leave his pottery wheel and other things behind. And what if he were hurt or lost somewhere? Perhaps he had amnesia and was wandering around, lost and frightened. Or frozen, more likely.
Who was I kidding? In spite of popping up regularly in soap operas, amnesia was pretty rare. Still, if George and the Parks woman had run off, what did they run off in? Cl
